Hockey is back, folks! Sure it's just preseason but it's a glorious chance to watch players fighting for an NHL spot, and actually, for many of them, fighting in the form of fisticuffs against the hated Calgary Flames. Preseason hockey is awesome even though it lacks star power. It's intense. It's worth watching.
Two split squad games will be played, one in each city. Much more after the jump...

MISC
- I gotta say, Keith Ballard really maintains professionalism in front of the mics even though he had a rough season last year. He seems ready to go after spending a summer training instead of rehabbing like last summer. (Yahoo Sports)
- The Canucks have cut 2 more players: Sawyer Hannay (back to Halifax) and Marc Anthony Zanetti (released back to J-Lo).
- The Province has a piece up on Andrew Ebbett. Another small guy that can still hold his own out there.
- Cam Cole points out the obvious in the Cory Schneider situation with Roberto Luongo having a life-long contract with Vancouver. (Vancouver Sun)
- Todd Fedoruk talks about second chances (Vancouver Sun)
- The Vancouver Canucks are honoring the good people who helped clean up the city after the riot. Find out more about that at Canucks.com, because you could be one of the people being honored / thanked with tickets to preseason games.
- We will be hosting the score prediction competition again this season. It will begin on opening night of the regular season. Somebody has to dethrone Semi_Colon!
- I have been receiving several emails from peeps who want me to set up another Hockeydraft.ca Nucks Misconduct Hockey Pool, because of its simplicity. I will be setting that up tonight and posting entry details this week. I am such a fiend. I didn't even give last year's winner a Kesler jersey. Now I can't even access the old pool to do so. This year I would like to honor the winner with a Canucks home jersey.
- Enjoy the game(s)! Many will be keeping an eye on Hodgson. Not me so much. I am really hoping for great things from Nolan and Sturm as both could be placed anywhere on the Canucks' roster if they play their cards right. 2 guys with grit and skill.

I’ll be keeping my eyes on these guys to see if they look like they have what it takes to make it to that next level:
Jordan Schroeder, Niklas Jensen, Adam Polasek, Darren Archibald, Sebastien Erixon
Also, I’ll be taking note of what Owen Nolan is able to accomplish. Sure, he’s damn old (for an NHL player), but being a first overall draft pick and NHL All-Star usually leaves you with some useful hockey skills at any age.
