PrintThings are starting to pick up around these parts. The fanposts are filling up which is great to see. I hope to have the final Cup goal chart out next week and will be revisiting the notion of grit soon too.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT VANCOUVER NEEDS.
God knows I love this team. But is this an attitude that prevails in our dressing room? No. Our best players lack that do or die attitude. Nolan is exactly the type of character guy who can light a fire under everyone’s ass!

Disagree with the attitude problems you address, as it seems to me you are attacking the Sedin twins.
In the 11 years or so I’ve watched these two, they have consistently brought the effort needed to compete and have improved their game every season, every night, and every shift, so I find your attack on “our best players” attitude, not only unfounded, but unintentionally ethnocentric.
I think this is yet another shot at Swedish culture. If you’re expecting Ra Ra heart on your sleeve type players, like Ryan Kesler, out of Scandinavia you don’t understand the culture there. Do you question Lidstrom’s drive? Or Saku Koivu’s? We consistently questioned Markus Naslund and never gave him the respect he deserved. I’m still ashamed about it.
Just because social norms and attitudes are different in other countries, doesn’t mean they aren’t as good as ours. Be open minded and accept our players. Especially the Sedins who are two of the hardest working players in the league.

I’m a huge Canucks fan, and have loved watching the Sedin’s play for years. And Naslund before them.
I’ve also followed the Ottawa Senators and have the most tremendous respect for Alfie.
I actually LOVE Swedish players, as well as Finns. Among my favourite players to watch are Erik Karlsson, Alex Edler, Niklas Lidstrom, Niklas Kronvwall, Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen, Patrick Hornqvist, Alex Steen. Loui Eriksson and Douglas Murray.
My comments were not directed exclusively at the Sedin’s either. How many goals did the TEAM manage against the Bruins? Tim Thomas was extraoridinary, and the Bruins defense physical and stifling, but the TEAM just did not muster up enough of an effort to go to the prime scoring area’s. Again, this goes for the majority of the TEAM.
But while we’re talking about the Sedin’s, as much as I love them, it would be nice if they fought a little harder to keep the puck, rather than just falling down every time the opposing player initiates contact.
I’m hard on them because I LOVE THEM!
This team is elite. They could have won the Cup this year. But circumstances both in and out of their control conspired against them. They can win it this year, with or without Nolan. But I think Nolan would be a solid addition on the fourth line that would bring some of little things missing in the Cup Final that COULD HAVE made a difference.
So, to reiterate. I’m not attacking anyone. The team needs a few minor attitude adjustments to finally get completely over the hump. I think Nolan would be a solid addition that would HELP solve, not completely solve, these issues.

I completely disagree with that statement. Sorry. The Sedins take a ton of abuse and slip through tons of checks all the time. Not to mention getting constantly hacked and crosschecked. They are strong on the puck and know how to avoid getting hurt. It’s all well and good to be Lucic and just run through people, but there is a reason the Sedins are able to avoid injury for the most part, and it’s a good thing. I’d prefer for them to be in the lineup rather than being macho and trying to play a style they aren’t suited for.

was on with Len and Bob on the WGN broadcast of the Cubs just now. Talking a lot about the rivalry with Vancouver. Sharp was very respectful. Said the two teams have respect for each other but definitely do not like each other. Said rivalries are created in the playoffs and playing 3 years in a row has created a great rivalry with Vancouver. Talked about shaking hands after and Sharp said it’s one of the best parts of the game. Said it’s always respectful and genuine. He’s never had a bad experience in the hand shake. It was pretty interesting stuff.

Said he watches them all the time up in Canada on WGN and called them Len and Bob and talked to Bob Brenley about his time in Arizona and how Bob knew how hard it was to defend a title. He seemed really relaxed and at ease. Could be a broadcaster in the future if he wants to be one.

I heard James Sheppard is a terrible hockey player who was drafted 9th overall in 2006
before Giroux, Chris Stewart, and Patrick Berglund.
I heard he uses mop to play hockey because he’s a pylon and pylons and mops go together.

He is 23, he could live up to some of his potential.
His development was managed horribly by the wild. Instead of having him finish his last season in juniors they pulled him right up to the NHL level, and then cause he’d have to clear waivers they never sent him to Houston to develop. And he was perpetually in the doghouse because of it. Bad situation for him.
Maybe this new start in San Jose will help, and they can manage any future development better than the wild did.

I don’t generally get taken up in personal things reading this board. But this is a remarkably ignorant comment. Maybe you’re only 14 years old. Perhaps you’d care to go fuck yourself. Alternatively, try on a one legged former fat little pig in a back alley somewhere. Then collect your silver medal.

he was pointing out the ridiculousness of Avery’s statement via sarcasm…as opposed to saying he personally believes cops are fat little pigs. At least, that’s the way I read it, maybe I underestimated yankee’s capacity for a mean streak though…

I know a couple of cops here in town
through work and ball hockey and they are all great guys and gals when they are off duty. And if they know you they are great when they are on duty. But I have had my fair share of run ins with cops who are drunk off their power and just plain dicks. So even though Yankee’s comment was not to be taken seriously and “fat little pigs” is probably not an accurate description of most cops I still enjoyed it. I respect cops for all they do but until they stop mistaking 4 buddies playing bocce ball in a park for a public disturbance I am going to laugh at jokes about them.

The third day of riots in London (south), a stand-off in Birmingham (Midlands) and apparently 100 youths gathering at the scene of a shooting in Leeds (north). People are going insane in England :(
