I'm not sure

About putting Lapierre in Kesler’s spot and Cody on Line 4. Lapierre is a great checking line forward, but I have concerns with putting him in such an offensive position

MG and Gilman

In that TEAM interview on the site recently, seem to say that CoHo will get a bigger chance than the 4th line while Kes’ is rehabbing.

I think he’ll be anchoring the second line. It’s time for him to show why he’s The Franchise.

I think Malhotra's line

would become the 2nd line in terms of ice time more than role and CoHo would center a third line with Higgins and Sturm. Something along those lines.

That

Is about what I think should happen too. Basically you have two line 2.5s

Doesn't matter who you slot in

The original Kesler line has the potential to score 90 goals. At the start of the season the second will not have that potential unless Manny/The Franchise/Maxim majorly step up.

So?

What’s your point?

i'd venture a guess

that his point is our season starting second line will score less, in effect causing less wins, in effect causing lower standings, in effect causing a playoff position battle, in effect causing missing the playoffs, in effect causing another riot and mass suicides off the granville bridge. But that’s just a guess.

Yeah I guess that's true

Cause we are so terrible defensively.

Wait, what? Oh that’s weird we are great defensively? So we should be able to withstand some early injuries that might make us score a little less? Hmm.

It all depends if October Luongo makes an appearance as usual.
But in general I agree with you. We should have enough defensive depth left to make up for some goals being missing. Most of the guys that are left – Higgins, Sturm, Manny, Lapierre, Hansen, that would go on lines 2 and 3 are all pretty good two way players

Twitchy' guess was kinda right

not as many goals may mean less wins. If Kesler is not ready for Oct it will mean a weaker defense. The five you mention Semi, I have no issues with on defense. The Sedins are going to have to play better in their own end though.

I will agree with anyone

Who says the Sedins need to be better in their own end. Because it’s true. Maybe Kesler being out could be a bit of a blessing in disguise in that they have to spend some more time back there.

And no Kesler will be mean weaker defense, but I think it won’t be as bad, because I feel we have more defensively responsible players than the last couple of years

Man, I got the Twins back all over the place today

I hope you are not calling them shitty in their own end.

Yes, I saw the same games you did, and I won’t say that they were great defensively. In the playoffs, when they went against the same guys an entire 7 game series, patterns and weaknesses got exposed.

They can definitely improve, so I agree to what both of you say.

Hank was a +26 in the reg season, and a -11 in the playoffs, Daniel a +30 and a -9 in the playoffs. To compare with the other Top 5 in the playoffs and reg season? St Louis was a 0 in the reg season, Perry a +9, and Stamkos a +3. In the playoffs? Perry was the best at 0 ( though he did not go as far as the other 4 ), while St Louis was a -8….and his running buddy a -5.

I know a lot of that will be explained away with the Twins offensive zone starts ( they led the NHL, with the Hawks top line used almost the same ), but the thing is, they can play defense.

It is just in the playoffs, they struggled sometimes in the grind of a seven game series, and with entire 5 man units checking them as they were in all 4 series.

Damned if they did not lead the team in scoring for the playoffs…and thats great. And I totally agree that they have some improvements to be made on the defensive side of the game still.

But I am just saying, like most things with the Twins, their defensive deficiencies sometimes get over stated.

Krecji, Bergeron and Marchand ended up +8, 15, and 12 respectively. They definitely outplayed them, the Bruins, with their 5 man unit.

I fully expect that to fuel them all season long next year. The whole team, actually. Playing “angry” ( like, no more off the gas pedal. Whoever wins the SPW from you Semi, they should go for more blowouts next year! )

I am calling them shitty in their own end

Sure, they were okay in the regular season, but the playoffs are another thing altogether. You play the same team at least 4 games in a row, you pick apart their weaknesses, and one of the Sedins’ big weaknesses is their play defensively.

It is just in the playoffs, they struggled sometimes in the grind of a seven game series, and with entire 5 man units checking them as they were in all 4 series.

If this is actually what happened, it is a major problem. The Sedins are world class offensive players. They are going to be the focus of an entire unit to shut down. They are going to be checked and worn out to hell and back because they are so good. If that is wearing them down and causing them to struggle, well, that’s the goal of it. And they and AV need to find a way to not get so worn out. The playoffs are going to be a bitch.

Its not totally what happened

And I was not really talking in absolutes there anyhow. Its not a major problem.

I think you would agree that the workouts this year are pretty intense. They have zero chance of not finding something to get jacked about. Something to push one more.

They know that, whether it was a dirty hit, just the accumulation of crosschecks to the back ( I really think they should look at higher back of the pant pads for all the cross checks both take, but esp Hank )…they have to learn to move off that.

You know, they are 30 ish already, and while they all say they all learn, they are what they are, which is world class offensive talents.

I thought what happened in the Final was Kes , much as he tried, was a “little off” by having his hip shot up to play. Without his dynamic play pushing the 2nd line, even the flashes the Sedins still showed, and even with the very good play of the 3rd line, Kes’s injury, together with the defense suddenly becoming less deep with Bieksa and Edler playing hurt, Hoff too, and Rome suspended along with the huge loss of our best , Hamhuis…well, eventually, it was just one on top of the other )

I fully expect this next edition of the team to be the one to win it. I truly believe it, and last year, while growing to think it was possible, I knew we had a great shot, but that feeling was always tickling in the back of my mind…

This year, I trust MG to make that right trade or two at the right time, this team to play like they are mad and on a mission ( something MG and Gilman both referenced in that recent interview )…

This year, I honestly don’t feel that tickle in the back of my mind. Just certainty.

Part of that is I think the Sedins may occasionally surprise people with some physicality. I know I saw the light switch go on for both by Game 6 and 7 or the Final, when they both finished hard checks, for a change.

So, maybe they can learn!

( a lot of that minus mentioned above was in the Nashville series. Which, I think we can agree on from watching them, more than a few of those goals were things like off poor changes, or possibly “cheap” +/-…you know? )

I would certainly hope that it's Hodgson

and not Lapierre who’s anchoring the 2nd line.
