Pat Morris says "still in discussions" with the Canucks about a new deal for restricted free agent Victor Oreskovich.
Via News 1130 on Twitter. Just a hunch, but I think this is boiling down to Oreo wanting a 1-way contract more than $$$. But the Canucks have signed several other thugs that can fill in that 4th line roll and they will be competing for a roster spot at training camp. In 16 regular season games with the Canucks Oreo put up 3 assists, a +1, 19 shots and averaged 7:54 of ice time. In the playoffs he played 19 games, had no points, was a -6, had 14 shots on goal and averaged 6:21 of ice time. Where's the holdup? Kidding. What if Mark Mancari or Byron Bitz (both right wingers like Oreskovich) can do the same checking role as Oreo yet put up more points? That is the eternal question. So is the accompanying salary. Agree?

Isn't
Owen Nolan also a right winger?
Wrecker wanting a 1 way, I would think you are bang on there

Is a right winger, yeah. Also agree about the one way thing.

not about the money?
Isn’t that the only difference between a 1-way and 2-way contract?

Yeah I guess you’re right. 1-way, more $$$, more security. It’s about money mostly. Isn’t it always? Hey man, I had 4 glasses of Spiced rum and coke. Give mew a break :)

Could it
be term, maybe? Who wouldn’t take a deuce over a one year contract.
I'll do it tomorrow, that seems like a pretty good idea to me
What's wrong with tomorrow, I'm watching him but who's watching me?

I can’t imagine that anyone thinks V.O. has earned term yet.
Hansen had to put in 3 hard years to get 3-years just now. V.O. has only played 32 ‘decent’ games in a Canucks uniform.

well, he did play pretty well on the 4th line in the playoffs so I guess that rushes people’s decision at this point. But when you put it that way…

I really liked Oreo in the playoff run, I thought he could have done more had he been allowed the opportunity. AV, I’m looking in your direction.
A fourth line of Sturm-Lapierre-Oreo, playing 8-10 minutes a game would be awesome.
Sturm is useless as a fourth liner (if he’s healthy he needs a good center and more than 10 minutes a game). But I agree with Oreo. He can play like a little Raffi (minus the questionable decisions) and I hope to hell he’s alongside Lappy in October.

Sturm would be good on the fourth. Not much as far as expections for him there, chip in occasionally offensively and keep pucks out of his own net.
Brings some offensive finish to that trio, Lappy can play the playmaker, Oreo the bull-in-the-chinashop.
AV will have to give more responsibility, read ice-time, to the bottom six this fall and winter, by necessity. Injuries to several top six players as well as juggling a long playoff run in 2011 and keeping everyone healthy in the hopes of another one in 2012.
