Canucks Sign Goalie Matt Clime To A 1 - Year Contract

Clime_medium With already 3 goaltenders under contract the Canucks added another today. Clime is a 28-year-old native of Leduc Alberta. He is listed as 6'3" 195 pounds. Clime will back up Eddie Lack in Chicago (yeah) as Tyler Weiman was not re-signed by the team, apparently. Clime has only played in 5 NHL games with the Stars and Coyotes, posting a 2-2-0 record with a .892 save percentage and 3.24 goals against average. He was the #1 goalie for the San Antonio Rampage last season, playing 55 games recording a 26-22-3 record with a 2.64 GAA and .913 save percentage.

Totally O/T

to this topic, but I just wanted to share this one. And its not because I don’t like Tim Sassone, b/c he is probably the best of the Chitown puck media…but “best in the West right now”?

He does know that the offseason is not over yet right? He ranks us 5th, and the Blues last…

I mean, not surprised, but its these kind of ranking things when all the teams are probably not done at this point…

And I do like the Climie signing

He is Weiman this year. Sorry Tyler, but I guess they wanted someone to push Lack a little more in Chicago

I agree

that making these forecasts mean nothing. But it’s hard to argue that Chicago and L.A. got better, while the Canucks got significantly weaker, due to losing Ehrhoff and Torres (I take Sturm and Glass as a wash).

There is one intangible though: did the cup run make the remaining Canucks palyers better. I say the experience made these players better and tougher.

We may say that Gillis is not done yet, but I don’t expect anything to happen till the opening face-off. I think he will stay pat and give the current group another shot.

Well

He did pretty well promise a trade. GMMG knows he has a smart fanbase, and a winger for Kes is a very good idea. I expect that to happen this summer.

I am not totally sure that Timmy is wedded to those numbers, but its more the timing for me.

I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the West is done yet.

Although, if he genuinely thinks that all of a sudden the Blackhawks are the best team in the West, then I’m just going to pretend that post was more or less written for his Chicago-based readers, and not what an expert’s opinion is. Let’s just say that.

Yes

it sounds like he is cheering for the home team.
But any of those 6 teams has a decent shot for the cup, in no particular order.

Los Angeles, CA

by AttilaS on Jul 7, 2011 12:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, one can argue that the cup run might have made the players better, but the extended run makes them less effective the next season. That’s what I’m worried about for the next season. That, the players are more prone to injury, or can play at their optimum level for only 60 games instead of 80 for example.

3.5 months

should be plenty of time to get fully rested, except Raymond. Why do you think that they would only be good for 60 games?

by AttilaS on Jul 7, 2011 12:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, I was just throwing a random number out there. But, I’m always a bit weary whenever I see the teams that went on a deep playoff run, their guys seem less effective next year.

Cline’s not really backup material though, is he? If they wanted a backup, I’d sure as hell want someone with more than 5 games worth of experience.

If Eddy Lack

shows he is as good as he was last year, I would have no prob with him as the backup.

But if he trades GJ ( at the deadline ) I would expect a guy with some NHL experience might be signed too…

He won't

trade GJ, unless there is something so good that it’s impossible to pass on. I don’t like the odds of such a deal.

actually

not to be contrary, but I do. There has to be enough “Hmmmmmm…” in the mind of opposing GMs after the season he had. There will be interest.

Honestly, my fave rosterbation is the Devils, because Brodeur is winding down.

That whole rumour that was fake about trading him in a package with CoHo + for Parise and possibly Oduya ( I like him on the blue line in our system ) was so much fun because at the root of it. Schneids could be the starting goalie for them that takes over for a Hall of Famer.

Parise is definitely good enough right? ;-)

If I’m Lamoriello I’d tell you to go pound sand on that trade request. :)
Let’s play a mini-game of trade negotiations! I’m Lou L and you’re MG.

Too much

to include Raymond.

It all depends on how desperate are the Devils for a goalie.
If we wait long enough, they will take whatever we package with Schneider.

Well

you have to admit, that in my press-conference, when explaining the recent signings, I sounded as if I was on top of my game….knowledgeable, full of confidence, promising a bright future for the franchise. What else do you expect?

Kesler and Kessel on the same line, would be spectacular. They would be the talk of the day, on every Hockey Night in Canada.

Isn’t when Burke on top of his game, full of confidence, knowledgeable and promising usually around the same time he screws a franchise?

I wasn’t aware Burke screwed over franchises… I’m still thanking Burke for the Sedins, in a god awful ’99 draft (I know we have others to thank for that too), and Kesler. (Even though that draft was like shooting fish in a barrel.)

And since I last looked the Ducks are pretty happy with their banner…

Give the Leafs time… He’ll get a winner out of them, and it will be sooner than we think. I think BB has earned the benefit of the doubt, even though I realize a lot of people hate him.

VAN picks up D Alexander Sulzer

Interestingly, that means in the past year or so Vancouver has picked up three former Preds defensemen in Hamhuis, Parent and now Sulzer (that latter two were up for the reserve pairings for NSH last year just as I suspect both will be for VAN this year).

From "Hockey's Future"
Sulzer is a solid defenseman, who can combine physical presence on the ice with some good offensive skills. He is a very good skater with a remarkable stamina. His fine positional play and a strong shot from the blue line are making him a good all around defender. Furthermore Sulzer is playing an effective game in the corners and in front of the net. Sulzer is a very compact defender with lots of strength and less weaknesses. However Sulzer should work on his endurance in the next season, to open his way to the NHL.
