GMMG Missing the boat on Bottom Six?
It seems that the past 3 years the Nucks have missed the boat on some players who would have been great in the bottom six, players like Taylor Pyatt (a big tough grinder, good penalty killer) and Michael Grabner (speed galore) who would have been terrific for them if they were allowed to grow as players, and not just pulled every time they made a mistake. As it stands right now Kesler is going to play with some pretty marginal players unless the Nucks pony up some cash for a UFA. I think AV has to look at how he uses his players and realize that guys like Hodgson don't come ready-made, they need to play, gain experience, and go through the grind of a season before they are ready. Both Pyatt and Grabner are good examples of players who would have been useful and were just let go for not much.

Michael Grabner is not a good bottom six
He is the most 1 dimensional player, pure goal scoring.
Grabner
only started to evolve his game this year with the Islanders. But I digress.. he is not bottom 6 material. He will likely be a perennial 20-25 goal scorer
Where was Grabner in the Off season?
Golfing. Thats where. The Isles lost a lot of games because there are very few 2 way players on that team. Goals help team success but do not define it.

You lost me at Pyatt
He got more points with the Canucks than he ever has or ever will. Although I tend to agree with the sentiment about Hodgson, it’s possible he’s just not good enough.

AV would never play Grabner in the bottom 6
In the coach’s eyes, he doesn’t fit the “prototypical mould” of a bottom 6er – big and gritty and tough to play against. It’s why guys like Desbiens was on the 4th line to start the year. Ability to play hockey should always come first. Not plugs who have size and practically nothing else but stone hands.
