I don't think I have ever known this level of anxiety. Like so many fans out there, my life has essentially been on hold for the past few weeks, in particular. I did not know the levels of anger I am capable of reaching, nor the insane levels of happiness when I watched the Canucks score game winning goals and further advance to the Stanley Cup. I follow lots of sports but going on this journey it seems to me that few athletes have to give more than those who hoist that magnificent trophy.
So win or lose tonight, thank-you. Thank you for showing us what speed, skill and talent look like on the ice. Thank you for being so mentally tough in the face of such negative media and weathering the negative comments of so many "Canadians" who opted to cheer for Boston. Thank you for sticking up for each other on and off the ice. Thank you for showing that sometimes you have to find the strength to play injured if at all possible. Thank you for being role models to our young athletes. There is a time for everything in hockey, I have learned that in this series. There is a time to show restraint, there is a time to push back, there is a time to accept the adversity of questionable officiating, and yes...there is a time to send Boston back home with smoked salmon and our Canuck flag to be hoisted for one day in Boston.
Thank you for bringing our amazing city together again. How many families/friends have found the time to be together to watch the game. I had the privilege of screaming my head of with my daughters at Rogers Arena , when Bieksa scored the winner and when Burrows scored eleven seconds in. Those moments I will never forget, neither will they. Your wedding day and the birth of your children are the best days of your life I know , but being a Canucks fan that's up there as well !
Enough of that stuff, tonight is the Stanley Cup final, all in or all out. I know that this will be a battle like we have never seen. We will see everything in this game. If you are lucky enough to be in Rogers Arena, be loud ALL the time. Get on Marchand, Thomas, and the biggest goon of them all Boychuk. Never stop and never let Boston quiet you, no matter what. Our Canucks already know what they have to do. After the power plays, lousy calls, penalty kills, bust ups, goals, saves, hits, and shots are all over and that buzzer sounds, there is no doubt that our Canucks will be the last men standing. GO CANUCKS GO and thanks for everything.
