A Little Bit Of Tonight
The Cup Finals start in a little over 100 hours (not that we're counting) but we'll know by the end of tonight if the Canucks will be aiming at Roloson (Smith perhaps?) or Thomas for the final four to seven games.
In the meantime, enjoy a carefree Friday. Go outside. Pet a puppy. Help an elderly lady across the street. High five a stranger. Open doors for random people. You know, be a good person. Perhaps the collective good will we show now will pay itself back in stanchion spades next week.
- Echoing the "Gaborik is buying a house in Vancouver" rumors from years ago, Bieksa's home improvement project suggests he's going no where.
- In what will probably be his last NHL action, Salo is relishing the moment.
- Awesome: Hear Vancouver react to the game five goals.
- "Anything worthwhile in life is not easy." - Vigneault
- Certainly not a bad first year as Captain for Henrik Sedin...
- ...but can he be the second non-North American captain to steer his team to the Cup?
- If Bieksa is Juice, does that make his son Cole Hi-C?

more on canada's team..
i don’t really see why there’s a reason the entire country would root for one team. i mean, even in the same city, it’s not like say Mets and Yankee fans would root for each other. or, in the same state, Flyers rooting for Penguins. i think only the Grizzlies and Raptors fan base had a cordial relationship, and that’s obviously because they came into the league together and… neither was contending. it’s nice if the canucks get more exposure as a west coast team, plant some fanbase in toronto and montreal, but really, i think only relatively casual fans would wholeheartedly root for the canucks in canada.
that’s certainly a much bigger number than “real” or “hardcore” or “non-bandwagon” fans of other teams, but then, casual fans don’t go on radio shows or internet forums or spend nearly as much (per head) on tickets, merchandise, etc.
Except
If you think in terms of Canadians wanting to bring the Cup back to Canada, it’s easy to know who to root for. I wouldn’t expect any Calgary fan to cheer on the Canucks, but they would probably be happy the Stanley Cup finally makes Canada its home… rather than sitting on a beach in Tampa Bay or something.

Salo
said that he wants to play next year. So, I doubt that this will be his last with the Canucks. I know that there is a cap issue, but I think he is more than willing to give a large discount just to finish his career here. The Canucks will be hard pressed not to take such a discount.

maybe… 1 year 2 mil. i don’t feel like they’d even give him 2.5. and if mitchell can get 7 over 2 sure sami can get 6+/2 elsewhere.
I highly doubt he’s going to re-sign for less than what he’s making now. He can easily get 3.5 on the open market probably more.
I disagree
With his injury history people will be leary of signing him long term. Especially on a 35+ contract. If you sign him to 3.5 or more and he gets hurt again next year and retires that money stays on your cap. And I just can’t see teams being willing to take that risk. At least not to the extent that they would drastically out bid the Nucks. If he wants to stay they can get him for less than he makes now in my opinion.

What Section says.
The chance of him being injured is very real, and with the new rules preventing the waiving of a player’s salary against the cap once he’s older than 35, it becomes a very big risk.
I say he gets less than he does now too. Maybe around the 2 range?

Those videos of Vancouver erupting in cheer and celebration really makes you proud to be a Canucks fan.
At the same time it makes me want to live in Vancouver more and more.

Flames fans are assholes
Speaking of assholes, it was reported on Global news that in Toronto, the final game between the Canucks and Sharks was the 3rd most watched program, after Dancing with the stars and Glee.

I emailed the Mr right away and said I want to go to Sweden. Only thing I worry about when going to places like that is prejudice attitudes from people who are scared of Muslims. I’m not, but people who don’t generally meet a lot of coloured people usually assume brown = Muslim. But I guess if I buy a lot of Sedin, Edler and Samuelsson shirts before going there, I’ll be safe…
