Hart Trophy Candidates Announced
Daniel Sedin, Corey Perry and Martin St. Louis are your official nominees. There goes my Tim Thomas idea. Oh well. Daniel talks about his nomination and more with NHL.com here. My vote is Perry. Yeah, he had 30 points in his final 16 regular season games, but think about the impact that had for the Ducks, who were barely making the playoffs. Just my 2 cents. What's yours?

Sorry, Sean
I’m a homer. Besides, Danny winning it makes for the most dramatic scenario: identical twins receiving identical honors in two succeeding years. Makes this Canucks fan giddy with happiness.

As much as I love the storylines
I don’t think Daniel should win the Hart. Has he really been the league’s MVP? Personally, I don’t think so. The Sedins rely on each other to succeed, so to call one of them the league’s MVP seems silly to me; collectively, yeah, they’re MVPs, but individually speaking, no, neither is an MVP. But I didn’t think Hank deserved it last year either (by the same reasoning), and he won regardless.
I think Kesler was more deserving of MVP honors to be honest. Though I would go with one of Perry or Thomas as my Hart Trophy winner. It seems my criteria for the Hart are different from the people who actually decide it, though.
To base an MVP award on 16 out of 82 games is, to me, unrealistic and faulty. But the NHL is extremely mismanaged and makes wrong decisions all the time.

16 very key games
that got the Ducks into the playoffs. That’s pretty impressive to me. And it’s not like Perry was bad the rest of the season, he was still a point-a-game player. But he went into overdrive when it mattered most and that, to me, is worthy of MVP consideration.
But I can see either viewpoint being valid. It’s a matter of opinion, really.
He was good in WAY
more than 16 games.

Agree
Thinking that Perry was inconsistent this year is a myth. He was very much consistent, just very hot at the end of the year.
For the record, Perry and Dank had the same number of points in March – so he wasn’t the only one turning it up at the end
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
"You can't come in my kitchen, kick my dog, and take a box full of ballpoints! Your ass must be crazy!"
regarding Corey Perry
(from a Nashville fan) I don’t believe he was as much of an impact for his team as Teemu Selanne.
That being said, I have to go with Martin St. Louis. He has not only been consistent for TBL through the regular season, but has also really led them to the round 1 victory in the Playoffs.

But you have to remember votes went in before the playoffs, so anything they did after the fact doesn’t matter.

Making the playoffs is the goal?
While I think that a win by any of these three is legit, I often wonder about the argument for someone in the position Perry has going for him. The case is that without his late surge (and generally wonderful season overall) the Ducks miss the playoffs. Probably true. On the other hand, without an Art Ross season form Daniel, do the Canucks win the Pres Trophy? Maybe, maybe not. The point is that we seem to assume that getting a team to the playoffs is the most important achievement in this discussion most years. I’m not sure that should be the case. Taking first place overall is a pretty impressive achievement as well – and given the home ice that goes with it, it could be even more important than just making the dance.
Gotta be Daniel

Perry will win
He had a HUGE year (not just the last dozen games!), did it without Getzlaf for awhile, is the reason the Ducks made the playoffs, and — and I think this is the big key — Kesler will steal enough votes from Daniel’s total to cost him the trophy. The Canucks simply had 4 SUPERSTARS this year that will probably garner MVP votes (obviously with Lu and Hank being the others). I find it tough to see D.Sedin getting it for that reason.
I actually wonder if St. Louis doesn’t become the benefactor of the East coast timezone and Stamkos’ disappearing act to win it as the sentimental choice.
I think Perry will win, and I won’t disagree.
My vote goes to Dank on the basis that my criteria for MVP is consistency of player performance first before looking at all the stats, and Dank, during the regular season, has been the most consistent out of the 3. 2nd would be M. St. Louis. Perry’s tear near the end was definitely godly and should be given a LOT of credit for helping push the Ducks into the playoffs. But would the Ducks have had to push like that had he been just a bit more consistent in the earlier parts of the season?
But, MVP for latter half of the season, no one can even touch Perry for MVP.
Daniel was the most consistent
Perry:
Oct – 12 points (12 games)
Nov – 14 points (14 games)
Dec – 17 points (15 games)
Jan – 8 points (11 games)
Feb – 17 points (11 games)
Mar – 21 points (14 games)
Apr – 9 points (5 games)
Dank:
Oct – 12 points (9 games)
Nov – 15 points (13 games)
Dec – 20 points (14 games)
Jan – 17 points (14 games)
Feb – 15 points (13 games)
Mar – 21 points (15 games)
Apr – 4 points (4 games)
But other than a rough January Perry was consistent as well. He was not just good in the last 16 games. He wasn’t just good down the stretch. He wasn’t just good late in the year. (As if being good when it matters most would be a bad thing anyway) He was very good all year long and even managed to go to another level late in the year to make sure his team got in the playoffs. I understand the argument that Danny should win and why people are making it. But lets try to fully understand exactly what Perry did. For me personally it’s pretty close and the fact that Perry did it without Getzlaf for a while and Dank gets to play with Hank and Kesler on the PP and the fact that Perry did indeed drag his team into the playoffs with his great play and the Nucks would have made it with or without Daniel sways it to Perry for me.

Pretty much this
Basically what I’ve been saying too
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
"You can't come in my kitchen, kick my dog, and take a box full of ballpoints! Your ass must be crazy!"
I’m in no way saying Perry was inconsistent. Far from it. Just the least out of the 3.
And in terms of the adversity factor, Perry SHOULD win the Hart for the same reason Hank won it last year. Team was being carried on their backs.
That being said, that 1 off month in January did contribute to setting the Ducks back in terms of playoff picture.
I should prbly clarify that for me, MVP requires the following criteria.
1) Consistency of play
2) Point Production
3) Ability to handle adversity
4) Ability to make teammates around you better
5) Ability to not be a detriment to the team in other factors (eg bad penalties, stupid suspensions, locker room presence)
I vote Corey Perry.
I’ve always been of the belief that the Hart Trophy shouldn’t go to the BEST player every year. If that were the case, just call it the Sidney Crosby trophy and hand it to 87 every year.
The Hart should go to the MOST VALUABLE player.
How do you define value? You imagine a scenario where the player in question wasn’t available. The Ducks would not be in the playoffs if not for Corey Perry single-handedly dragging them through Getzlaf’s injury and beyond.
Daniel has been an important piece of a puzzle in Vancouver, but he is not a CRITICAL piece. The Vancouver Canucks would have been division leaders and made the playoffs without him.
Blackhawks bleed Red & White.
We are all Canucks...including Toews, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, Brian Campbell...need I go on?
It's true
I mean we did just beat Chicago without him!!! Hey-O!!!!!

But the Bolts
would probably not have made the playoffs w/o St. Louis, and would definetly not be in Round 2 w/o him. He’s very valuable to his team.

IF perry didnt do what he was doing at the end of the season Dallas or some other team gets in. Perry got his team into the playoffs all by himselfs on some nights.
