You might have this silly column shoved into your Twitter feed today. Ian Mendes fails to mention that only the 1999 Buffalo Sabres and 1996 Detroit Red Wings were the favoured teams after their Game 7 OT wins. Much of those teams ('97 Oilers, '95 Sharks) were also bad hockey teams that fluked their way to Round One victories. I bring this to your attention because Sportsnet is chock full of people who attempt to pass off fun facts as statistics. Mendes could have just as easily gone the alternate route and brought up just as useless a factoid: In every series involving the Vancouver Canucks that has ended with a 7th Game Overtime, the winner of that series went on to play in the Stanley Cup Finals. In essence, the thing doesn't mean a damn, and whether the Canucks win or lose tonight does not hinge on momentum carry over from Game Seven.
