Linden Thinks Canucks Will Get It Done On Sunday

Trevor Linden talked Canucks today. When Linden talks Canucks, you need to listen. I liked a lot of his points, especially on the team D failures and Luongo.

Right on Trevor! I don’t know why, but I’m feeling really upbeat and optimistic about Sunday’s game. Let’s hope that optimism is well-founded…

Well...

A former Canuck thinks the Canucks will win the series. That’s credible.

Canucks have the flu?

My brother emailed me about this. It is a post from hockeywidow, who seems to be a quite reliable “insider” on the Canucks message boards. Obviously take it with many grains of salt, but it could explain the lack of jump the past few games…

Well, lets say that the Canucks feel very fortunate that they have an extra day to rest. Just got off the phone with a friend who has been speaking to some of the players and what is happening is some virus going through the dressing room. Vomiting between periods, diarrhoea, headaches and lethargy. Not one player will use that as an excuse nor will the team collectively. They know they have to be better. But just calm down and ask why suddenly do they look like a completely different team. And it really isn’t a big secret. It has been talked about, hinted at and commented on. It is what it is and they will either find a way to rise above it or they won’t.

It would make perfect sense

if it were true. But it’s too much of an excuse for me to believe right now. If true though I’m sure stories will come out by the time the Canucks are done for the year (be it through elimination or the Cup).

by Canuckk on Apr 22, 2011 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

you know, this was our first guess here

As the parent of a small germbag who’s inflicted quite a number of plagues upon our house, I’ve become a little paranoid about how quick these things can spread in a small group of people and take everyone out at the same time. And these guys not only practice together, they travel together on buses & planes; it seems obvious that if one gets sick, they’re all going to get it.

But I’ve never seen anyone mention a team getting sick, ever, so I’ve just assumed this isn’t really ever much of a factor, and that they have some kind of special awesome Sports Doctor Secret to keep from getting the kinds of diseases we lesser mortals must endure.

When we heard that Oreskovich showed up with the flu and a day or so later AV was saying Raffi had “food poisoning”, my first thought ( was “oh God everyone’s going to get sick at the same time now this can’t be good”, but then I figured there’s no way that could happen because if it could, surely we would hear about it. I definitely remember that when I asked about it over at PITB in the fall, they said it was far more likely that the team was fatigued when they had a horrible game than that they were sick.

In any case, I can see why no one would ever admit to it: under the best circumstances it still sounds like an excuse, and under the worst your opponent can really take advantage of it. Not that I can think of a way the Blackhawks could have taken MORE advantage of it. Ugh.

The only thing Torres has

is rabies – or whatever else causes your brain to have severe cramps during games. If he’s kept off the ice for the rest of the series you’ll have a much better chance of winning, in any event.

I agree

We looked a lot better with Hodgson on the ice in his place. Speed and Skill over the big hits.

I like Hodgson

He is very skilled, but not very speedy. I hope that Torres can turn it around because he can be a very good hockey player and contribute offensively when his head is right.

I’m sure that would have been noticed by someone in the press though? Vomiting between periods is a bit hard to hide

Not if they had controlled the flu

so it didn’t make the players AS sick so they could play through it. I don’t even know that’s possible, but something has to explain the complete lack of jump and the sudden passive play.

Hmmm

Were they sick the last two years when the ’Hawks beat them, too? Have they been sick for the past 40 years? This takes the cake for excuse-making.

The recent turn of events is depressing. That’s all I can say.

I want our boys to win this series. I believe this magical season won’t end in vain.

I don’t like how so many people are jumping off the bridge, preaching that we’re done for this year. But the less I get involved with all this drama, the better for my sanity.

See you guys on sunday afternoon; I’m going to take a break from reading anything related to our Canucks until the puck drops in the U.C.

If the Nucks Were Sick

That would explain how poorly they played. The whole team stunk in allowing
the Hawks to trounce them.
I can barely do my job when I am sick I couldn’t imagine playing hockey at
an Elite level being ill. Not to make excuses but it would make sense.
