Raffi Torres Hit Collection

One thing about Torres, he goes for the monster hits and doesn't piss around. Starting with the hit on Seabrook in Game 3, take a look at his hits from the past.

Star-divide

On Kaberle:

On Eberle:

On Iginla:

On Hal Gill:

On Jason Williams:

On Skrastins. This one looks a lot like the Seabrook hit:

On Tyler Myers. This one's perfect:

On Rakhshani:

On Brunette:

On Clifford:

Well...if this was 1995 he'd be superhero and not vilified like he is now. Not with the headshot uber-awareness going on. Now he has to think twice before demolishing guys because contact to the head can be made. I noticed he loves to use his shoulder to lay into guys. Maybe in the case with Seabrook and Eberle he pushes instead...arms to chest. If he sticks to shoulder-checking can't he bend over a bit to catch the opponent squarely in the chest? I mean, clearly what he's doing now is going to add up to a shortened NHL career.

I love hits. I don't mind seeing guys getting hurt in the process...but not via a head shot. I have changed my stance on that, mostly. Especially with the hard armor the players wear nowadays. But if a guy changes his stance or makes himself vulnerable at the last second before being hit..well all bets are off. That unfortunately was not the case on the Seabrook hit in Game 3.

A side note: Isn't a tad strange that both Eberle and Seabrook got up after their respective hits from Torres and even resumed playing? Wouldn't that mean that the majority of the contact was to the body and not the head? No matter. Hits to the head are what they are and I can't change the rules.

Anyway, I wasn't going to say anything about that but rather solely provide a bunch of Torres hit videos to show his general hitting style.

That's kind of my issue too

I love a good big hit. Look at what Edler is doing. Massive hits, clean. I just think Torres needs to change the way he hits – there has got to be a way to make that hit on Seabrook behind the net without it being that reckless and without hitting his head.

The rules are the rules. You have to adapt. Other people are, Torres just seems to not want to

"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"

"You can't come in my kitchen, kick my dog, and take a box full of ballpoints! Your ass must be crazy!"

Gotta also mention

That his 4 games off might have thrown him off his game a bit as well. He just didn’t look like the Torres we knew prior to the Eberle hit.

Maybe was overzealous in trying to get back into the game.

I like all those hits

I think it’ll be a sad day when those kinds of hits are illegal and we’re getting close.
What I don’t have time for are the Cooke on Savard hits.

Seconded.

As Milbury said, the game is starting to get too pansified and I never agree with him.

I have a theory that a person’s body structure makes them more or less susceptible to concussion. Some people are more durable (Seabrook) than others (Savard).

So don't get violent and don't get caught with your head down, the night she stole the moon.

yeah that is true, but if Seabrook takes a Savard elbow it could be a different story.

don't forget

Savard had an elbow directly to his head, which was basically the only point of contact. The way Torres hits, his full body makes contact, distributing force throughout the target’s body, lessening the force on the head.

Cheap shots, say what you will. Somebody that comes from your blind side, and does that is just cheap. BTW , I played hockey since a little kid, they where cheap back then, still are. How is that working out right now for you guys?
