What a crazy turn of events today, as the Blackhawks could have eliminated themselves with a loss to Detroit but then get all the help they needed from The Minnesota Wild vs the Stars. For the 3rd straight year, Chicago and Vancouver will meet in the playoffs. It's going to be an exciting series given the hate that exists. We will have much more on this over the next few days. Until then, fasten your seat belts, Hawks. It's going to be a rough ride.
**UPDATE** Game 1 airs on CBC Wednesday night at 7:00 PST. Let's get it on!!

Well, the Sharks and Wings must be laughing right now. All worked out very well for them (the Kings and Yotes are the 2 worst teams in the West by a wide margin, in my personal opinion).
But we get a chance to exorcise the demons ourselves. Should be fun.

I love both teams. Can’t help it. I’m usually neutral when they play, unless somebody on one of the teams does something to piss me off, like diving or head-shots or whatever.
I kind of want the Canucks to win this time though, cause the Hawks won their cup last year.
Plus, if by some miracle this not-great Hawks team can mind-fuck Vancouver to victory, they’re gonna get killed by Detroit or San Jose. Vancouver can destroy anybody they meet in the West.

i think there is a lot of testicular fortitude out there
lots of teams battling the past few weeks, playoff intensity, and most of the teams playing well. Even Dallas ran off five in a row before yesterday.
Blob teams may run out of gas if they advance, but I expect them all to be tough opponents in the first round (except maybe the Kings, because of injuries.)

I doubt you will see that...
This series is too close to call in my opinion, too many variables. Which version of the Chicago Blackhawks shows up? The one that plays a tight checking game, limits opponents opportunities, and cashes in turnovers? Or the one that plays like an epileptic in all three zones? Yes Chicago is not the same team that it was last year, yet the Canucks are not quite the same juggernaught without Manny Maholtra, and without him the cracks begin to show in the bottom 6 forwards. Has Luo exorcised his demons? for that matter have Kesler, Burrows, and the Sedins? The Blackhawks know they have a bonafide clutch guy who can carry the team on his back in Toews, who can do that for the Canucks? I think this series goes atleast 6, and if the Canucks stumble out of the gates, they could be in trouble. However, if they are ready to play its tough to beat the same guys three times. Especially when the opponent has an axe to grind and has been improving themselves for the sole purpose of beating you. Great series, wouldn’t have it anyother way.
Am I paranoid? I don't know. I went to a therapist once, but I left before he gave me the diagnosis, cause he had it out for me.

What less than a full effort means, which has been lacking. Today it showed its true face, and nearly killed them.
Back in, sure whatever, swap this loss with a win last week, same amount of points in the end, but a win to end the season and same end of day result.
They are owed nothing, nothing will be given to them, and it takes a full effort for all the minutes of the game.

Depth I'll buy to a point. It is tough to lose Sharp, Campbell, Bolland and Brouwer in the same time frame.
Up until then, they were a consistently winning team for a a good while.
Goaltending, not so much. And the Depth issue may be resolved with Bolland and Brouwer back, we’ll have to see.

Interesting, VAN beats every team in the West and East. But in the West, they have the lowest probability to beat the Hawks of all 7 teams, right now about 55-60% vs usually >65% against all others. But I’m still working on it so it can still shift.

I do agree with not letting that affect the game played, and the respect the opponent, its 0-0 now.
But it means something if a team is down in the third, or has a late PP, and can draw on the confidence of having a #1 PP. Or knowing that no one has had third periods like this edition of the Canucks.
The past seasons mean nothing, cuz they are different teams then these ones.

I’m with Yankee on this one. New heroes can emerge from either or both sides. You can start bragging about the #1 PP or hardware winners on the roster but that quickly can mean nothing in a playoff series. See Canucks’ PK vs Kings last playoffs. WTF!

You DO throw the season series and past two years out. This isn’t Niemi, Buff, Khabby or the rest of them anymore than it’s Mitchell, Demitra, Ohlund or (spits) Wellwood.
Stats from a regular season are comforting, that’s it. They need to prove it against the Hawks and they need to prove it past two rounds. Otherwise all they had was false comfort and lofty expectations from a fantastic regular season.

I like to think I’m a man of reason and science, but I’m not. I’m a peculiar guy, and I think too much with my heart, with a big belief in destiny and other things. beliefs that could be rocked to fucking pieces in the coming weeks, or made sturdy forever.
But I had a feeling this was going to happen ever since we took over 1st place, that the Hawks would be our opponent. Dallas felt wrong. Even Calgary, our old enemies felt wrong.
I knew Chicago would lose today, and so would Dallas, because it’s the only possible way to get the match up.

first off, congrats on an incredible season. The Hawks have more question marks than answers, but we still have a core of about 7-8 players that are probably causing the slimy green men to reach for the valium bottle.

Just like the idea against the top line in the NHL, with a possible nod to Perry’s line.
Thing is, no one is taking it lightly. From what I have seen written, its all, of course we know the Hawks are good team.
But 82 games do not mean nothing to the way a team has played or not.
Sure, we get the pedigree. But thats it. This team wanted the Hawks since they clinched. Bet on that. All the talk of playing mean nothing games means nothing, really.
Same with all the exorcising demons nonsense. They don’t seem to think that way, like most athletes. Its all about the next game.
They are well aware of it happening, but it means little to the chances of it happening again. Perhaps if the Hawks were the same team.
But the fact mr wardrum went to Mr Scott is an indicator of how different this team is from last.

the hawks are cleary not the team that they were the last two years. Yet, somehow we just seem to find a way. toews and kane are special players, game changers. So much so that you tend to forgrt about Hossa.

for the last two months now it seemed every game was a must win. i thought, and still think, this Hawk team is a lot better than many care to admit. When’s the last time we’ve had any breathing room though. it’s been a nerve wracking, fingernail biting roller coaster ride of a season.
consider the confidant Canuck fans with all their impressive stats that just got thrown out the window. When’s the last time they had to worry about anything?
nobody that follows the men of four feathers has been more positive than me this year. and, I’m quite confidant that this series will keep me up late and on the edge of my seat. i’m just going to have to replenish the Stella supply .

you are right about the fact that the Hawks are not an average 8th seed. But if Scott even gets to look at the ice when the Sedins are contemplating stepping on in game one, we won’t need our 7th game seats because the Canucks will roll in 4 and Quennville will be admitted to a mental institution.
