A Bit of Going East
Yes, I know, I haven't been posting much lately. My lectures end next week, and final exams are after that, so I have lots going on right now.
Last night was a pretty good start to the road trip. Beating the Red Wings always feels good, especially when it could possibly be a forecast for the later rounds of the playoffs. Baby daddy Daniel Sedin netted a couple goals for his little girl, Roberto Luongo nearly had the shutout, and the Canucks tied their franchise record of 105 points. Next up on the list is the one Eastern Conference team we haven't seen yet this year. The Thrashers are busy fighting for a playoff spot out East right now, although the odds aren't in the favour of this 11th place team. Obviously, the player we know best on that team is Dustin Byfuglien, who has become their primo offensive defenceman. This could get mighty interesting.....
- Recap of last night's 2-1 win over Detroit.
- Wednesday's results, Thursday's updates, and Friday's schedule. The Canadiens-Bruins game on TSN at 4:00 is highly anticipated, considering how that division rivalry has played out this season.
- Conference standings. Dear God, looks like our conference will be a mess until the last game of the season.
- The talk of the town is obviously the Habs and Bruins. Zdeno Chara talks, the Habs want to stick to a plan, and both teams want the 2 points.
- Did that puck really just defy the laws of physics, or did Jonathan Quick just manage to tweak it?
- Jeff Tambellini shares his journey to the NHL.
- Finally, an adorable little kid got to show off at our game last night.

I hadn't seen that Quick goal
Crazy. It musta hit something funny in the ice though right? Like a divot or something. weird that the NHL put it to music too.
So what's the over/under
on the amount of time before the refs lose control of the inmates in the Habs/Bruins game tonight?

I thought the record was 103
and we just set a new one?
Also, apparently on 3 more wins needed to clinch the Conference.

Pretty cool video, well done. It reminded me of another video I really liked. It didn’t turn out to be as prophetic as everyone hoped but I still think it’s awesome. Maybe the dude who made it could tweak it for this years playoff run? http://www.nucksmisconduct.com/2010/5/10/1467092/muhammad-alis-sais-believe-canucks

Info on our 2nd Round Pick Patrick McNally from a buddy
He told me all this in a MSN Messenger conversation so I have copied it and posted it for your viewing pleasure. My buddy is a stats junkie, lives in the Pay Per Click world and no stat is beyond his reach.
Jason says:
btw did you see that I found the most ellusive Vancouver prospect stats?
Kristoff says:
no
Jason says:
hehe – well . . .
Kristoff says:
send the Dman stats my way
Harvard boy right?
Jason says:
you guessed – Patrick McNally – yeah – prehavarvd still
so this season he captained the team to their first ever league title and won the championship as well
lol – he scored a hattrick in the sem-finals of the championship for a come from behind win
so . . .
in 28 league games he had 22 goals and 51 points
leading them in scoring
up 16 points over 28 games from what he had last season when we drafted him – not to mention his leadership and defensive plaudits
Move over

Man oh man, here’s a bit of info on last year from hockey futures
Scoring 14 goals and 34 points in 27 games is tough as a defenseman. It’s even tougher in the ultra-competitive Independent School League.
Patrick McNally jumped 44 spots between the mid-term and final Central Scouting rankings this spring.
Milton Academy’s leading scorer gets more impressive all the time. Ranked 40th in Central Scouting’s final list, the Glen Head, N.Y. native is Harvard-bound after one more year of prep hockey – a year in which he would gladly eschew all personal achievements in favor of a New England Prep Elite Eight title.

Weird, all of that’s meant to be in quote block.

the “enter” button to create paragraphs screws up the code for that. i’ve tried many times before.

By the way, he went 115th in the 4th round in 2010, not in the 2nd round as the above comment states. It was our 1st of 5 picks.

true
and yes, i was one of the only few people here actually paying attention to the later rounds, even doing the recap of who we got with those later picks.

Bourque is a legend
I absolutely idolized Bourque growing up. Tried to model my game around him before I got converted to forward. Even cheered for Colorado during the playoffs for a couple years when they acquired him (yes, even after they swept us in the first round). Still remember that diving play against the New Jersey Devils that saved the game the year they won the Cup. Still, it’s nice to hear him pick the Canucks from the West.
Sakic passing the Cup to Bourque will live in infamy. I cried a bit. Not gonna lie
