Many saw it coming. The 4-day break between Canucks games giving us way too much time to ponder the Manny Malhotra loss and the aftermath. I think most of us can agree that it's a big blow to the team but that the Canucks can both rally for their fallen comrade and do a decent job filling in the void he left. Oh, and the #winitformanny Twitter hash tag is a win. Let's keep that one going!
9 games are all that remain and you hope and pray that the Canucks can stay healthy from here on out. In that regard I thought Associate Coach Rick Bowness said something great yesterday: "We love Manny. Manny's a huge part of our team and no one's ever going to deny that. But the fact of the matter is, you still have to play and you can't play cautiously. You can't be out there worrying about other things or you're going to get hurt. You've got to play the game instinctively and with emotion, and not worry about other things." (Vancouver Sun)
Of course, now the big question is: should visors be mandatory in the NHL? Eric Duhatschek from the Globe and Mail gives his thoughts. Given the way that safety is becoming more and more of an issue I wouldn't be surprised if full cages will be mandatory in the next 5-10 years. I still think it should be a choice. But I don't pay their contracts so..
Daniel Sedin and his wife welcomed a baby girl into the world on Monday night. There is a chance Dank could join the team in Detroit. Dankus is still 7 points up in Steven Stamkos for the Art Ross Race.
AROUND THE NHL
-Matt Cooke's suspension was harsh and deserved for his latest elbow. Suspended for the rest of the regular season and the first round of the playoffs. Are you in agreement with the verdict/punishment? Cooke offered an apology, saying that he understands now more than ever that he needs to change. No shit.
-The Kings will be without Justin Williams for at least the rest of the regular season (shoulder injury). He may require surgery.

-I know most count the Leafs out already for a playoff spot, but tonight will or will not solidify that even further. The 8th place Sabres play in Montreal tonight and the 10th placed Leafs play in Minnesota. It's a good night for hackey! A Sabres loss in regulation and a Leafs win narrows the gap to 3 points, but of course, Carolina is right in between them.

-Alexander Ovechkin is out for 7-10 days with an undisclosed injury. I'd guess he has hurt feelings, with the lowest points total in his career so far. heh!

hey Canucks fans
tough break with Malhotra how big of loss do you guys feel he is…I think he is so underrated and could be devastating blow but you guys have a ton depth so shouldn’t effect you guys as bad.
Also tomorrow’s game should be fun a ton of players will be missing on each side and everytime I check another player is out…Bertuzzi will now join the list for us and I see Daniel Sedin will be missing due to the birth of his 3rd child…either way should be fun maybe/hopefully a preview of the Western conference finals but obviously not with this amount of missing players lol

eye injuries are really hard to diagnose and evaluate. Things can appear ok and actually be awful and vice-versa (Bryan Berard almost lost his eye, after all). More opinions are good.

What I don’t get is why there’s some people (from what I’ve seen in the media) harping on the fat kid for defending himself! He was provoked, physically assaulted, then defended himself. From my experience, upper bowl, halfway up in the corners all the times I’ve gotten them. Haven’t gotten any this season.

Cooke was a rascal when he was a Canuck but IMO he wasn’t anywhere near the villain he is now. I see alot of similarities in the early careers of RK17 and Cooke, both defensive pests with scoring touch. He had to go and join Hypocrite Mario’s team to turn into this entity. Just an observation, not everyone will see cause and effect.
