To paraphrase Penguins coach Dan Bylsma during the early episodes of HBO's 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the Winter Classic, "8 is better than 7!" Bylsma pushed the Penguins to a 12-game winning streak by consistently encouraging his team to forget the latest win and immediately look forward to the next one. I don't know what Alain Vigneault tells his players after wins, but it seems to be working - the Canucks have overcome a "rough" 5-6 stretch (Feb. 9-Mar. 3) to rattle off seven wins in a row.

In the last game I listed some of the awards/franchise records that are in the Canucks' sights. A quick update on some of the most prominent of these: We have now clinched the Northwest Division, and sit nine points ahead of Detroit for the Western Conference lead. Even if the Flyers win their two games-in-hand, they will still be five points back in the President's Trophy race. And Daniel Sedin is six points ahead of Steven Stamkos in the battle for the Art Ross Trophy. So there is still lots to play for even as the Canucks enjoy an unusual amount of breathing room down the stretch.

And, of course, there is still The Quest to reach the ultimate goal in June. And until that happens, it appears, no one on the Canucks is resting on their laurels. So let's get on with it. As Homer tells the Space Coyote: "Give me some inner peace or I'll mop the floor with ya!"
