Andrea Darlas: "If the Sedins [ever] become Hawks, will they still be sisters?"

Bolland: "They’ll never become Hawks. They’ll never. I don’t think we’d let them on our team. That’s probably one thing. We’d be sure to not let them on our team. And yeah they probably still would be sisters. I think they might sleep in bunk beds. The older one has the bottom one, the younger one has the top."

hmmmm

like a 3rd line centre with injury problems makes personnel decisions.

Just more crap…pretty juvenile that team.

He can say whatever he wants about them. They led the league in scoring the last 2 years and will soon be leading the league this year. He’s jealous that he’ll never be as good as them.

Amen to Stanchion

I have pretty much the same feelings about it. Yes, it’s tired, it’s stupid, and mildly chauvanistic, but Bolland was speaking in Chicago to home fans. Preaching to the choir, so to speak. And it’s kinda his job to talk like this. Is it classy? Of course not. But he’s that kind of player…yappy and what not. If it came from a team that wasn’t our sworn enemy, I might have been offended, but CHI has a deep dislike for VAN, and vice versa. Almost expect this kind of commentary.

Maybe our rivalry will survive the great divide (re-alignment)!

The Stanchion said it perfectly

It’s Bolland. Let’s not give him the satisfaction of caring and move on. Now if Marchand had said something…

Wait a minute…

“The older one has the bottom one, the younger one has the top.”

He does know they are twins right?

I recognize that twins are born minutes apart etc, but do we really think Bolland was making that particular distinction?

Big Yawn

I don’t think Dank & Hank care too much what a third liner thinks about them. How embarrassing for Bolland that a couple of sisters are head, shoulders and waist better at hockey than he is.

And once again, you could hang an entire clothesline from the erection Chicago players, fans, and media get talking about the Canucks.

by Lingyis on Dec 14, 2011 4:11 AM PST reply actions

Stanch nails it

remember when I talked earlier this season about being over them? I was only half kidding. Especially with realignment, this rivalry changed forever in April. There were some outside of the fans of the two teams that appreciated it for what it was. But many people latched onto this because Chicago treated the Canucks like a bully going after lunch money. Once the kid fought back, the magic was gone.
The funny part is that no one would know Dave Bolland if it wasn’t for the Canucks…

the big difference

When you see the Canucks talk about the Hawks, they speak of the dislike, but also the respect for them as a team. That’s the real issue with Bolland. As a professional athlete, you don’t do this. It seems the Hawks are so hesitant to let out any type of a compliment towards the Canucks, where as we’ve seen it’s not the same in the other direction. That speaks volumes about character. But hey, the Canucks are the arrogant ones…

Bolland should grow up

Take a look in the mirror and relise that maybe millions of kids are going to read this quote and hundreds of those kids are going to take away the aspect that bullying people is cool, when this is exactly what we are trying to take out of society.

Bolland

Makes it exciting to watch for when a Canuck next takes him out with a huge hit.

by The Stanchion on Dec 14, 2011 9:02 AM PST reply actions

As an outsider

I’m really going to miss this rivalry once realignment kicks in. The bad blood that exists not only between the fans but between the players on the ice reminds me of the Avs-Wings feud in the last ’90s.

I chuckled at Bolland’s comments, but Stanchion’s take was spot on. The use of chauvinistic terms to describe athletes is something I’m guilty of, but any Canucks fan who gets legitimately offended by Bolland’s general comments about the Sedins is taking this stuff way too seriously.

I’m going to miss this rivalry too. It’s endlessly entertaining and fascinating, and the games are so exciting to watch.

However, as a female, if Bolland was my brother I’d give him an earful about this.

Don't be too hard on the Chicago fans...

they think that hockey only started in 2008. As for Bolland, if I were a sportscaster I’d ask him how it is that despite all of the physical crap they put up with on a nightly basis, the “sisters” have managed to stay healthy (except for Daniel’s broken foot) over their careers, while Mr. Tough Guy is oft-injured.

by east_van_joe on Dec 14, 2011 12:05 PM PST reply actions

It’s easy to dismiss this as him being a troll, but I’m much more on the Pass it to Bulis thought spectrum. It’s ridiculous to think these kinds of jokes are still funny. Make fun of them sure, but try and be clever about it at least. Don’t just jump to a tired old narrative that a 5 year old could make up. I guess that’s too much to ask from someone like Bolland.

by sunshine and lollipops on Dec 14, 2011 1:04 PM PST reply actions

Well, in defense of bolland

(and please, God, forgive me for defending that useless piece of shit in anything), he didn’t jump to the tired narrative, he just grabbed the ball and ran with it after the host jumped at said narrative. Still an ignoramus that’s about as useful as tits on a boar, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt of being too stupid to come up with anything intelligent to respond with.

by CdP on Dec 14, 2011 2:35 PM PST reply actions

I don't mind when Bolland says this shit...

…so long as he backs the smart-ass talk with good, antagonistic play on the ice. But he’s pulled a disappearing act on the score sheet, and he’s the checking center on a team that’s giving up too many goals. So he would be better to stay quiet until he has something to back up the smirk.

That said, Burrows calling anyone pathetic for comments given his history of trash-talking on the ice and whining in front of cameras.

Burrows is in a pretty good position to call the Blackhawks pathetic.

Given his history for regular season AND playoff scoring, he could swagger it up so much worse. He shouldn’t. But he could.

by Wisp on Dec 14, 2011 3:09 PM PST up reply actions

What does Burrows scoring ability have to do with it?

If he were criticizing Bolland for his play, then that would provide him with credibility, certainly.

But he’s not. He’s criticizing him for trash-talk, something that Burrows has a well earned reputation for on the ice. And if it’s speaking open and honestly in a public forum he has a problem with, he’s equally hypocritical, cause few players have whined about one thing or another as frequently or loudly as Burrows has.

Which “thing or another” has Burr whined about so “frequently and loudly”? There was Auger, who is undoubtedly a great official and that was clearly a baseless accusation. But, just wondering what else it is he consistently and loudly whines about. I have no problem admitting fault of the players of my team, but yeah, if this is true I wouldn’t mind hearing some specifics about these whining sessions. Outside of Auger, let’s hear it.

I am pretty much with The Stanchion on this

though I do think it would be hilarious and a big LOL moment for me if Bolland was ever traded to the Canucks while the Sedins are still on the team just to see him have to do some serious backpedaling

it’s what makes me laugh when players make comments like this, because you never know where you might end up…
