Hey it's me...again.
Let's talk goalies. We have two really good ones which leads to the dirty "c" word. But what is the controversy really? Luongo is in Van for good, unless some GM does some heavy drinking and needs to reach the salary floor next year. But could Van realistically keep Schneider?
I don't want Schneider traded this year. He is needed if the Canucks are going to make another run at the Cup. I think the last 4 games proves that. I also know that trading him alone will bring nothing but draft picks right now as the Canucks have no space under the cap. Even if another player was packaged with him (Hodgson) that is really not a lot of cap space. No sense in trading him for the sake of trading, especially since he is a RFA.
GMMG has said he wants to sign Schneider. He didn't say keep him though. With the Luongo contract and lack of a drunk GM somewhere else, he will probably sign and trade during the summer. I would hope to an East coast team...hint hint Devils.
As a Van fan I would love to see Schneider stay with Roberto and split duties like the old says where teams had goalies play close to 40 each. Of course In Van that will never work with the media and fans. Second guessing takes place before the event even occurs. And if I was Schneider I would want to be a starter. But maybe he sees that he has a great chance at a Stanley Cup with Van and will stay for 1 more year. In that case GMMG will have to let Raymond go. I have no problem with that. Of course now watch MayRay come back and score 20 goals.
