Last year, the core group used that same painfully mediocre start to galvanize and focus the team. One of the most important voices during the turnaround was Malhotra's. One of the most important players who translated words into action was Kesler. He went on to score 10 goals in 15 games and the team never had to shoulder check for the rest of the season.
Kesler was able to go on that tear because for two reasons which don't exist now - he was healthy and had a checking-line centre in Malhotra who the Canucks trusted to shut down top forwards. This season, Malhotra's not even centering the third line. It's hit the Canucks deeply and on many levels.

Manny and Kes
Good stuff from Botch. Was at the Sens game and both of those guys had tantalizing flashes of their 2010 form.

Yeah that was eye opening for me too
Oddly, I just hadn’t really thought about those two injuries and how profoundly those two guys not being at one hundred precent would affect the team. Now that Botch has pointed it out, it seems so obvious. That last quote from Kesler is pretty funny. I wonder if he always refers to vintage Kes. I guess not too surprising from a guy who has a K superman tattoo. All kind of tongue in cheek I think/hope.
I have a feeling it might be a bit less tongue in cheek. But that’s okay

Yup
as long as he goes into beast mode every once in a while I can very easily pretend I don’t notice.
