A Eulogy for the Canucks

oh wait...it's November. Nevermind.

But since you're here, let's talk. I don't claim to know the Canucks as well as some of the great writers on NM. But I have watched every game for the past three years after not watching for the seven previous years. (Thank you NHL Gamecenter) Here are some thoughts. Feel free to disagree.

When AV says the Canucks are not good enough right now to beat good teams like the Hawks, he's right. And maybe he needs to change the gameplan. Teams have adjusted to the Canucks style of play, especially 5 on 5. Keep them to the outside and when the defense pinches, and they will, chip the puck passed them and go off on a 3 on 2 or 2 on 1.

Kesler came back too early. I hope MayRay doesn't do the same.

2 years ago the Canucks were the comeback kids with 11 third period comeback wins. Last year they got the lead early and held on to it. Right now they don't have an identity and it must leave some nagging doubts in their heads when they get behind.

Even if Schneider is the "better" goalie, the team is not playing well in front of him. That makes him good trade bait to me.

Might as well add Hodgson if he is going to play on a short leash every game. Hodgson can create offence, Malhotra can not. Get Cody's ass back out there if he makes a mistake.

The Canucks defense frustrates me because I know they will pinch and so does every forward in the league. So if they keep doing it, then the forwards better learn to cover.

How can 5 on 5 play improve when Kesler won't pass and the Sedins won't shoot in the slot?

After 19 games last year the Canucks were 10-6-3.

I am not panicking....yet. But if after 30 games the Nucks are still a .500 team I may be leading the "Fire AV" campaign.
