Cody Hodgson playing great hockey and getting results. Aaron Rome earning rock star status. The #1 power play in the NHL. A slaughter of the Islanders. And why am I not content? Because the bottom line still remains: Which Canucks team will show up THIS time? When is the winning streak happening? When do they re-claim top spot in the Northwest?

A red-hot Chicago team, with some vengeance in their minds make a

Star-divide

visit to The Rog, riding a 3-game winning streak. However, these 3 wins came over Columbus, Calgary and Edmonton. All slumping teams. So if the Canucks can put up an effort like they did against the Islanders, then..well...we could see another defeat of those g*ddamn motherf****ng Blackhawks.

MISC / STATS

-The Hawks were missing Duncan Keith when we pummeled them November 6. He returned the next game vs St. Louis (a 3-0 loss). But then the Hawks won their last 3. Keith has 2 goals and 2 assists in that streak. Dan Carcillo has 1 goal and 3 assists. Yeah, he does. Marian Hossa has 1 goal and 4 assists. Cabbie Kane has 2 goals and 2 assists. Captain Serious must be contained! He has 4 goals and 2 assists in that 3-game span! He was the NHL's 3rd Star Of The Week last week.

So, these guys, shitty teams faced or not, are going to be a handful. Watch how many times Duncan Keith pinches from the point...

-For everything else Blackhawks, check out Second City Hockey, but more particularly, Atop The Sugar Pile.

-As for the Canucks, you know Aaron Rome has been the shiz lately, and I won't let you forget it. 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 games. David Booth has 1 goal and 2 assists in his last 2 games. Ryan Kesler has 1 assist in his last 4 games. WTF? Get it together, man! Daniel Sedin was held pointless against the Islanders but still has 1 goal and 6 assists in his last 4 games. Henrik Sedin has 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 4 games.

Rome, Booth and the Sedins. Where the hell is everybody else? I'm not even going to talk about Manny Malhotra. Higgins has cooled off. Let's see if Hodgson can get on a bit of a roll point-wise after potting a goal and an assist against the Islanders. Jannik Hansen has 3 goals in his last 4 games playing with the Sedins. Not too shabby at all. Obviously the guy on the hot seat is Ryan Kesler. I don't care about his hip surgery. He's had enough time to warm up. If Aaron Rome is already beating a 40-goal scorer in the goal department...something is f***ed here. Don't squeeze that stick any harder, Kes. Just give it 110%. Keep putting on pucks on net, and the goals will come. Heh.

Oh right, the Canucks scored 5 power play goals against Chicago on November 6. AHAHA:

I agree with Buble. This was one of the best moments of my life too. Hands down. And until the Hawks beat us in a series again, this video will always go up when we play against them:

OH. HELL. YES. Suck it!

Considering that we’re on Game 18 and I’ve put in a guess for almost every game, 2 points is just terrible. I never bet against the team, so that might have been part of the problem…

Aaron Rome once had an awkward moment, just to see how it feels.

Neither do I.

Third season playing this, and I’ve never numbskulled. Doubt my lead will last, but I’ma enjoy it while it’s here.

Fuck, watching that video of Burrows burying the Blackhawks brings me back to April

fittingly, I’ll be watching tomorrow night’s game at my buddy’s house, where we also watched Game 7 vs. CHI and drank copiously for the entire game then joyously after Burr slayed the dragon…

That being said…. I’ll predict the same score it was the last time the Blackhawks came to Vancouver.

2-1 Vancouver Canucks over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Did anyone have any family members or friends who cried after Alex Motherfucking Burrows scored the OT winner? Two of my friends started crying after we won, meanwhile I was still running around and screaming, generally losing my shit. These are grown men, crying at the end of a hockey game.

My sister did. We were in Hawaii at the time, which was a blessing in disguise, because I imagine Vancouver was nuts in the few days leading up to the game.

I know it seems weird to Hawks fans that Nucks fans remember it so fondly and react so strongly given that it was just Round 1. But imagine having the greatest season in team history, getting up 3-0 on your most hated rivals, and then almost collapsing. Not only would their have been firings/trades if we lost, but it would have taken YEARS and years for fans to get over it. With that kind of epic collapse, it would have put a black mark on the team, at least in fans eyes. So yeah, alot was at stake. Winning that game was incredibly important given the consequences. Dear lord it would have been awful…

I did, too, the emotion level was way too high for a hockey game. Honestly, I think the team left too much energy in that first round, too. We’ll never know what would have happened if we had faced Dallas in the first round.

by BECanucks on Nov 15, 2011 11:37 PM PST up reply actions

"I know it seems weird to Hawks fans"

Very coincidental that you mentioned this. As I was reading CC’s first comment the same thought crossed my mind, but then while reading his second comment, the importance and drama of that win finally sank in.

Like I said after the loss to Boston (/twists knife, just a little), I had hoped the fans here could eventually take something positive away from last year’s playoff run. Even though I still sportingly hate your team and the moment was at the expense of the Hawks, if it adds more fuel to the rivalry, it ultimately was a good thing.

Besides, I doubt the Hawks were realistically gonna get too far in the postseason (but dammit, there was always that chance).

by ChicagoNativeSon on Nov 16, 2011 7:25 AM PST up reply actions

I think pushing it to 7

The way the Hawks did had a part in how the Finals played out as well. So in retrospect I think the Hawks did play a part in knocking Van out, even though it took an extra couple of rounds

"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"

I definitely

teared up, but I was too busy trying to catch my breath and collect my shattered nerves after Captain Serious pulled his last minute heroics there in the third. Even still, I was somehow confident that we would not lose that game, and who else but the ultra-clutch Mr Everything to seal the deal in such epic fashion. As raincity pointed out, so much was riding on the result of this game, and the anticipation levels could not have been any higher. That first round was one for the books, unforgettable in so many ways.

"Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Just hoping the boys can put up some goals for the ginger. Been in short supply this year when he is in the net.

Latest word from the twitter verse is that Bolly is healthy and in action tonight.

So bump Kruger down to the fourth line, move Mayers to the wing and sit the 3 million dollar soup-can in the press box.

surprising

considering the reports on how he was labouring during the skate yesterday, but I am sure he doesn’t wanna miss this

by Kent Basky on Nov 16, 2011 11:16 AM PST up reply actions

probably better phrased as "healthy" and inaction

though Kruger has filled in admirably enough in his stead.

Also if the third line is centered by Kruger

It likely wouldn’t get matched up against the Sedin line anyway, such a charge would fall to Toews and Hossa.

I saw the highlights of that game - hard to pin that one on the goalie.

in my mind, Schneider is every bit as capable as Lu. and probably not as mental.

The boys are back in town – here’s to a great game tonight. i’m hoping I get to walk the dogs tinight around midnight with a smile on my face.

by wardrums on Nov 16, 2011 2:24 PM PST up reply actions

Agreed. Don’t see much of a drop-off between Lui and Schneids… except Schneids seems to be more focused and less temperamental.

We would have a REAL goalie controversy on our hands if Lui’s contract was actually move-able.

by Vancouverguy on Nov 16, 2011 2:41 PM PST up reply actions

speaking of movable contracts...

the hawks put Olecz on waivers today. $3 million, down the drain, but boy does that open up some cap space. so basically, all the Hawks got for campbell was the jettisoning of his $7 million contract. I miss Soupy.

There ‘s been some rumblings about Crawford, I still think he’s solid. Correct me if I’m wrong, but both the canucks and Hawks are run and gun type teams – I guess that can lead to a lot of quality chances.

by wardrums on Nov 16, 2011 2:55 PM PST up reply actions

Depends on your ownership/management. It sucks, but cap space is way more important than sunk costs due to a player not working out, especially for teams with our markets. I’m sure you won’t miss Olecz all that much when the GM brings in someone more capable at that price point. (and 3M should really help out.)

Don’t you guys have a hot-shot stud in the minors? Crawford….. he’s solid, but I don’t know if we can expect any more improvement out of him. He’s a solid enough #1, but I don’t think you can count on him to consistently steal you a playoff game/series.

That’s my $0.02 anyways.

by Vancouverguy on Nov 16, 2011 3:29 PM PST up reply actions

i dunno..

if Crow has plateaued (and I don’t think he has IMO).. he’s still a pretty rock-solid goalie.. maybe not the guy to steal you a series but there’s only a handful of goalies who have done that.. if your D sucks, you lose. And if the Stud yer referring to is Salak.. he needs moar time before he’s ready.. if you mean Agent Smith (aka Optimus Grind) then, yeah, I think he won’t disgrace himself at the big club but I’d rather be looking at him next year..

Hey, didn't you notice how Kaner cleared out the crease in the last game against you.

he hit the gin, errr I mean gym this summer and put on 5#’s of solid muscle. He and carcillo will be cracking skulls out there. Da bode of dem.

Hawks have had a fairly easy schedule, if there is such a thing in the NHL. By the way, you guys got anyone on your team that can go toe to toe with Fluffy? Volpatti might be dumb enough, other than that you’ll see most of the canuck players trying to get the ref between them and our new found d-man.

Before you call me nuts, we won all three games in the playoffs last year when Scott dressed.

Fluffy is playing?

Cool. He never caught too many Canucks when he was in Minny, and for this kind of hockey, he is just too slow.

Q’ has him on the 4th line? Excellent. We have some burners there too ( Manny, Volpatti and Weise )

No, believe it or not...

He’s paired up with Lepisto as out third d-pair. Lord have mercy. Things could go south ina hurry if they get caught out there with your dumb Swede’s.

You know your in trouble when the best thing you can say about a player is, “He didn’t look to bad out there.” One thought did cross my mind though – wouldn’t you love ot have a Scott like palyer out on the ice for your team when a knucklehead like Lucic runs your goalie. Fluffy would have wiped the smirk right off Lucic’s face, gauranteed.

actually, I was looking at your lines today and for at least the first three, rememberd why Vancouver had a little success last year.

by wardrums on Nov 16, 2011 3:01 PM PST up reply actions

Like Shanny and Campbell said

1 game out of 8000 since the lockout. Goalies getting run is such a rare thing, but I get that point.

3rd pairing on the road? He was OK against us as a defender once or twice. but getting caught out against the Twins should not be the concern.

Getting caught out against Hodgson, Lappy and Booth. Even with the kid ( and Hodgson is faster this year ) not being a burner, the other two are some of the best speed on the team!
