Why that wording in the title? Bah! I'm a little sickened with this Canucks team that STILL seems content to be a 500 hockey team. I say "content" because if they applied themselves they would be several games above 500 right now. But no! They spot the struggling Ducks a 4-0 lead before showing up for the 3rd period and almost tying it. Had they played with some mustard over the previous 40 minutes it would have been a different story. What is

Star-divide

with this team's psyche? When they want to play they beat up on Chicago. We keep hearing that they "play down to lesser teams" yadda yadda yadda. Play down to or just get lazy / cocky? Same shit different pile. A Cup Finals hangover? Inexcusable! I swear, these guys are coasting 50% of the time with a few players being exceptions. And I will throw Roberto Luongo into that coasting heap as well. He's not battling to stop pucks consistently. The worst part? The coach is basically letting them do it. Hey, how was that team building golf day on Trump's course? It sure worked didn't it? The boys collectively shit the bed against the Ducks after a solid game against the Kings the night before.

So yeah. Which Canucks team shows up against the Islanders? The one that scores first and controls the game? Or the one that comes out slow and plodding and spots Michael Grabner a hat trick? You know Gabs is getting up for this one. Grabner is waking up by the way. After a slow start to the season, he now has 2 goals and 1 assist in his last 2 games, both Islanders losses. This is the 2nd time he faces his old team. Last time they played back in January, Grabs had zero points, a +1 and 7 shots in a 4-3 loss to Vancouver.

MISC / STATS

-No suspension for Aaron Rome for his hit on Ducks' Devante Smith-Pelly. You can see the hit here. The reason for the non suspension (besides the fact that Rome is an untouchable God) can be found here. What a costly penalty by Rome though. Ouch. Way to wake up the Ducks' snoozing power play.

-I wonder if Vigneault will keep Jannik Hansen with the Sedins after his 2 goal performance against the Ducks? Should he? I say YES. Leave Burrows with Kesler.

-

“Everyone gives him knocks on his breakaways but I don’t think people understand how fast he’s going,” Moulson said. “That’s half the battle. He’s flying in there every time and in a flash he’s right on top of the goalie. I think that makes it really tough on him.

“But once he starts potting those, he could probably start getting 70 goal seasons.”

Haha. Oh my god, Matt Moulson, settle down! Grabner is not potting 70. Ever.

-Evgeni Nabokov has a career record of 14-6-1-2, a 2.26 GAA, a .915 save % and 1 shutout over the Canucks.

-John Tavares has 3 goals and 3 assists in 2 career games against the Canucks.

-Brian Rolston is 14-15-29 in 43 career games against Vancouver. One of those goals is totally worth watching:

Nice!

-David Booth has scored 3 goals and 8 assists in 14 career games vs the Islanders.

-Daniel Sedin: 2-8-10 and a +6 in 9 games vs NYI.

-Hank Sedin: Identical 2-8-10 scoring and a +6 in 10 career games vs NYI.

-I don't think Luongo is starting in this game, but just for shits and giggles he is 6-10-1-2 with a 2.73 GAA and .919 save % lifetime vs New York. Cory Schneider has never played against the Islanders.

-Canucks are 24-9 in their last 33 Sunday games.

-Canucks are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. a team with a winning % below .400. LOLWUT??

-Islanders are 8-3 in their last 11 vs. Northwest.

-Islanders are 7-19 in their last 26 overall. OUCH.

No kidding huh Sean?

Fucking Province tried to compare him to Bure? I like Grabs as much as the next guy, but are you fucking kidding me? If he had Bure’s hands, we would have never let him go.

And FTR, he is fast, but not Pavel fast. There are still very few in the NHL with that guy’s first step.

As for this game, I see the angry team show up. Finish every hit, score on the PP and 5 × 5.

Final score 4-1. Cody Hodgson with the game winner

It grosses me out to say this, but I think the old nutter Tony Gallagher has a point here:

When you can outplay a team like that in the third period in the second game of a back-to-back at the end of a six-game road trip, it merely shows the level to which they’ve been dogging it. This team might think they’ve been working as hard as they can, but that third period showed just how much consistent effort has been lacking.

Found here

Injuries explain some of the team struggles, but not all. The lack of consistency is frustrating.

This year.

Tony G is an doddering old fool

Yeah, he is bang on and has a point NOW. Its easy to write negative articles when there is struggling.

But please don’t praise that freak any more than you have to.

He had a good point. Even a broke clock is right once a day…

Sorry if this sounds over the top, but that guy…they are trying to promote him as some wise old hockey sage" on TEAM…and it gets so bad with his passive aggressive shit slinging that I turn them off.

He is “bang on” after a loss, or when the team is struggling, because he is the master of negative bullshit in Vancouver sports reporting.

Oh, I agree. Tony G is 9 times out of 10 a nut. Remember when he wrote an article in the playoffs basically suggesting that Colin Campbell might be fixing games for his son? He embarassed the whole city with that garbage.

But it seems to me that there are stretches in numerous games this year where the game is scoreless but the team is playing flat/sitting back rather than controlling the play. I’m confused by the teams intermittent ability to turn on stellar efforts. TG seems to be suggesting laziness, which I don’t buy. But I do agree that there has been some trouble with putting together a consistent high effort level. I’m not in the room so I really don’t know (nor does TG) but I have found the teams play to be perplexing as a viewer/fan.

This year.
