You think they miss Marc Staal??

All we need is an immediate impact from Ryan Kesler, continued improvement on the powerplay (Rangers have been quite undisciplined), less suckage on the PK, and another Roberto Luongo effort like he has done for us in his 2 games as a Canuck versus the Rangers: a 2-0-0 record and a 1.50 goals against average. The D game is slowly coming together too, and we'll see what results happen now as Alain Vigneault has shuffled the deck with the pairings.

Anyone old enough to remember the birth of grunge music is about old enough to remember the sting of 1994. And that stinger has never gone away for many older Canucks fans. It makes a Canucks-Rangers game all that much more fun. A win over the Rangers always feels sweet. F*ck you Richter!

The Rangers are off to a bad start, but are not getting blown out in their games. They have not even played a game at MSG yet, and won't until October 27. Look for a simplified game from them, with tight defence and solid goaltending from King Henrik Lundqvist. It would be in the Canucks' best interest to score first and dictate the tone on home ice.

No videos tonight. Only:

Photobucket

Rick, you will never be forgotten. Ever. Be at peace.

The Canucks will finally honor him Tuesday night.

Canucks.com has a most excellent Rypien tribute page up right now. Check it out and re-live the memories.

Also, check out an article at the Sun of Kevin Bieksa talking in depth about his brother Rick here. Heart-wrenching stuff.

I’s going to so hard to win after 7 minutes of Ryp’ tribute, our guys are going to be stuck in legitimate grief, and I know they are going to battle like crazy but sadness sucks the energy out of people.
But I’m crossing fingers all the same, 2-1 Burr.

Picking the shutout again?

No! not today. But a 4-1 effort, an excellent game from Lui but for a trickler or off some player’s ass. Players playing like Ryp did all game, standing up for each other and stopping the effort of a game Rags team cold.

Winner is tough. Smart money is on Kesler having a great game, as befits his Lordly status. I feel it will be the Silent G Son of God that will be anointed with the Keslord’s blessing on this sermon.

Bonus predict, Weise will have a solid game, maybe a goal, but definitely a noticeable game as he smiles at Torts going off the ice, who starts to say something but…, before he can, everyone with an H in their last name turn around and give him the chop…Weise jumping in perfectly like he was in on it.

Sounds like Sturm the odd man out. I know that nobody has been happy with his play so far, but from the bit I’ve seen, he’s still a better hockey player than Weise or Volpatti. I’d like to see Lapierre with an actual NHL-caliber winger for a change. Imagine a fourth line that could actually move the puck around a bit…

by Chuckles Canuckles on Oct 18, 2011 2:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, exactly. It seems like Vigneault is sort of stuck on one template for what a fourth line should look like: one decent player and two useless grinders. Like when Morrison had a stellar camp last year and they turfed him because he “didn’t fit”…even though he was obviously the best available player for the fourth line. He could have killed penalties, filled in on the wing on any of the other lines, and taken a regular shift without getting victimized. This year, even Nolan looked better than Volpatti. Oreskovich looked promising, but then they turfed him for this Wiese guy out of nowhere. Odd…

Ah, a nice 7:00 start, and the good guys are wearing blue and green;

Back to the way it should be. Rangers are usually my de facto East team (while I sort of knew what was going on in 1994 I was too young to really be bitter towards the Rangers + MSG is a really sweet place to watch hockey games) but tonight, fuck ‘em. It’ll be interesting to see if Kesler looks a little slow to start the game or if he’s pretty much like fuck that straight into beast mode. I’ll say the good guys get the win tonight, 3-0. Higgins with the GWG. R.I.P. Rypper. Most legitimately upset I can remember being about any athlete or “celebrity” or anything like that dying. No doubt that the team will put on a good tribute for him tonight though, let’s get em boys.
PS. The Oilers suck.
