I could be wrong, but that's the first Vancouver goal by a Russian-born player since an Artem Chubarov tally on April 2, 2004, a span of 2,483 days. Not that we're counting.

I'm still expecting someone to tell me I got the date wrong
Otherwise…hooray for sneaky russians!

Finally, the Russians have arrived.
How come we have so many Swedish millionaires, and zero Russians, anyway?
Los Angeles, CA
It’s riskier as Russians often prefer the KHL to the AHL so bringing them up in our system is more difficult.
that’s a very solid point there.

I’ve come to realize that too many Russian players are flakes.
two sips from the cup of human kindness and I'm shitfaced, just laid to waste.
The russian word for russian
is usually the same as the russian word for ‘selfish but skilled player’, I’m sure of it. Of course, not in shirokov’s case, obv.

I disagree
Datsyuk? Ovechkin? Larionov? Fedorov? Konstantinov? Fetisov? Malkin? All those guys were/are amazing players and demonstrated excellent leadership at various (or all) times during their career.
There are just way too many counter-examples to any claims about Russian “flakiness” to make it a legitimate label. Because I could name you tons of flaky players of various nationalities (even gasp Canadian) over the years. Being flaky and selfish or consistent and an ultimate leader – these things have nothing to do with nationality.

Sorry captain literal
it was meant as humor following the train of the thread. Yes, people of any nationality can be selfish flakes, but I think the reason Russians get the hack for it is because it’s often their superstars who have the optics of me first, team second. With north americans it tends to be the also rans. Again, this is generalizing. Now go watch Waach’s Mastodon video and lighten up!

Yeah I got the hint of sarcasm, I was kind of double responding to you and Smo. I do think people unfairly rag on Russians though, although probably way less so than they used to.

I didn’t say they were all flakes. Just Krutov, Fedor Fedorov, Yashin, Bure, Mogilny, Radulov, Ovechkin, Malkin, Kovalev, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Flake?
Shayne Corson, dude.
