There’s a management refrain about how it’s better to deliver on low expectations than fall short of high expectations.
Canucks GM Mike Gillis isn’t a subscriber.
Asked if Stanley-Cup-or-bust was a fair expectation for the 2010-11 Canucks, Gillis said: "I think we’re one of four or five teams that are considered to be capable of winning the Stanley Cup."
"I think our team is really deep in every area, and I don’t think we have a glaring weakness that needs to be addressed," he continued. "But injuries and different things can change that."

weird...
i was just reading that…..
going through stuff for the ice right now, wasn’t thinking of posting it since it sounds like the same drabble we’ve heard all summer (even though this time it’s gillis himself)….

I think it was misleading from Sekeres to make the post: Canucks – Stanley Cup or bust, because that’s not what GMMG said. I do think it’s interesting that he makes the comment he views the team as one of the top 4-5 teams, an assessment I completely agree with. Regrettably, 4 of those teams are in the West (SJ, CHI, DET, VAN) and only 1 (WAS) in the East.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
So far, it looks like the Cup stays out West. The down side is having to actually play the games, dang it!
Can’t we just get the cup based on writer predictions in the pre-season, then play out the year?

Then we'd have two cups by now

Not unusual for Matty. I get the feeling everytime I hear him interview GMMG that Mike finds him to be a douchey type he has to tolerate more than a guy he can talk to.
There at least seems to be some humour and some kind of respect back and forth there. I found the interview illuminating…and Matty asks good questions…but I get the sense he aint on Mikey’s Xmas card list.
