"He's working on core training and he's got a regime that he needs to finish," said Lawrence Gilman.
(Cody) Hodgson is expected to be at the prospects physicals at Rogers Arena on Friday, but Gilman said it's uncertain if the 20-year-old centre will play in the prospects tournament in Penticton.
"'For any player, we want to make sure he's fit to play," said Gilman. "We haven't had a chance to conduct a (recent) medical evaluation (on Hodgson)." - from Jim Jamieson at the Province
Update (h/t Yankee): Gillis said about Hodgson today: "Our medical staff is going to do a thorough investigation, and if there’s any tweaks or he feels unsure yet or if he needs a bit more time, he won’t be participating this weekend. He’s gone through a long struggle with this back injury, he’s had a really good summer of training, and we’re going to put him on the ice when he’s 100% ready to go. We want him ready as soon as possible but he’s like any other player who is rehabbing an injury. They get totally evaluated and don’t get on the ice until they’re 100% and ready to participate. It would be somewhat unfair if he wasn’t in that position when we have guys working their butt off to try and make this hockey team. I spoke with him yesterday. He’s in great spirits, very eager, we just want to make sure he’s 100%."

I think its just treading carefully
for example: what if he’s not fully healed and they say “sure thing he’ll be there” and then he sucks cause he’s still hurt.
So instead it’s tentative but truthful until everyone knows for sure. The bloody hockey writers are dying to write something about Coho but they’ve got nothing and their jobs are online the line if they can’t come up with content.
It’s like the captaincy thing. they know nothing because Gillis hasn’t told them anything but they have to write something so go with controversy and if its not there then make it. Idiots cause more strife and then want to know why the team doesn’t gel or Vancouver is called a goalie graveyard. Yes it’s the big league and the players need to deal with a tough Vancouver fan base but when you have nothing else to write about do make shite up – take a hint from the blogs out there and think outside the box. In 5 years or less no ones gonna read their shite – these old school writers had better learn fast
This would never ever happen ever

I can't make any promises
last year I drafted Ilya Bryzgalov in the 12th round as my second goalie. That’s just how good I am. I am going to find all the players who are going to take a big step forward this year and I am going to get them late rounds. It’s just how I role.

It's not luck
sorry. I targeted Bryzgalov because of the coaching change in Phoenix. I wanted him and I got him in the round I projected to get him. Is it that hard to believe that where I really excel in life is fantasy sports?

Here we go again. I don’t know what it is with this particular player.
Its funny with us Canuck fans. We are so quick to worry or think the worst.
I’ll wait for the physical. From the reports I read of his summer in some of the Eastern sources this year, I fully expect a guy in shape, motivated to prove his worth, and fully capable of showing what he couldn’t last year due to injury.
Now, if on Friday they say his back is effed, all bets are off. But I really doubt that will happen.
The Vancouver media just knows how Pavlovian we are about the Canucks in general, and this highly touted prospect in particular.

On the bright side, he’s training with Gary Roberts.

Same trainer that helped Steven Stamkos this past season. Stamkos feels that Roberts really helped him be the player he was last season. Lets hope the same will be said about Hodgson this year!
Personally, I think he’s gonna be a special player this year and will quickly become a fan favorite and prove the doubters wrong. 40+ points. You could say that I might be expecting too much from him, but that’s just what I think.
More on Hodgson from those Kurtenblog Guys
I wish that Vigneault hadn’t said what he said last year (that Hodgson was using the back as an excuse). That was dumb, and I hope Gillis told him so. From comments that Hodgson himself made about his rehab, though, it seems like a bulging disc is now what he has to learn to play with. (Which is why what Vigneault said was that much dumber.) I understand that he might not want to overdo it, and is trying to curve up to training camp, but if I were him, I’d arrive sooner and do a medical evaluation, and start giving interviews about how excited he is about the upcoming camp and winning a spot, etc etc.
What I hope happens is that Vigneault will say at some point during the exhibition games how great he looks, and that he will be starting in Manitoba, but no doubt be back soon. I think it’ll do him good to play against men without the limelight of Vancouver, so that he can learn to take care of his back on the ice.
It’ll be a damn shame to lose this prospect. He’s a player.
Let's try to relax
It is what it is. Not much can be done about it. Should have been handled better last year. Let’s see how it plays out before we go all CLS.
Not saying I’m burying my head in the sand or anything, but there’s not much at this point that we know, and there’s not much point in speculating.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
I’m not speculating anything. I’m just saying something stinks. I’ve thought this for a long time.

I don’t disagree. I am not happy with how things have been handled on this front (and I think everyone knows that I’m one of the biggest CoHo fans around here).
Personally, I guess, I’ve just been telling myself there’s nothing we can do about it…and trying to trick myself into feeling better. But I do have a similar nagging feeling things are not all rosy.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
Buncha negative nellies.
Something stinks? Nagging feelings? C’mon boys…I have a FEELING? That’s it?
Like I said, Canuck fans are wired this way.
I am with skeeter…nothing to see here!
And yes SC, this is the kind of story/non story that the TEAM jizzes their collective pants about.

It’s a great way to treat a new recruit. Talk about ostracizing before he even gets his career going. Ugh.
The one good thing about being in Ontario is I don’t have to hear/see too much “news” from TEAM.
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
And I know he’s not completely new, but still.
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
Pretty sure most players just put that fake smile on and open the cliche can when the Team reporter comes along.
Some guys they seem to be OK with ( Burr and Kes…the Sedins only the last year or so )…but the Team has a long history of douchey comments. Its where the p-rint reporters go to make more moolah, so they know they have to stand out to get called back.
So you have guys that are usually good reporters saying things they never usually would. The only one I like is Botchford. Always informative and has a good sense of humour on the radio.
The rest suck ass. Pratt is a buffoon. Taylor is still good, but its a standard..“I know what I am going to get” good.
A few of the others like Price and BMac are OK. I don’t mind a guys opinions if he is consistent. Pratt will praise a guy profusely and rant for 15 minutes later in the show about the same guy!

But they are the only sports radio in town. Its that or…shit…’NW? News 1130? Rock 101?

Argh
This is such a non-story. Every single prospect will be going through a physical prior to the young stars tournament to make sure they’re cleared to play. It’s only the media that is making this seem like it’s special treatment for Hodgson; it’s not, it’s the same thing every player will be going through.

Call it a non-story but it is a story. From the differing opinions last year between the 2 camps..nothing was really settled. Hodgson went back to his own doctors in the east and the Canucks staff was in question. He’s completing his own regime with Roberts now while other dudes like Shroeder are already here. He’s on his own clock it seems. Like I said, something stinks. We’ll see. In some ways it’s not even a hunch. The rift already exists. So all eyes will be on this when CoHo arrives and therefore it is a story, although a speculative one at the least

Well, according to GMMG ( the same Team interview Mike quoted above ), it was actually the Canucks medical staff that finally figured it out!
Seems that the Cleveland guy, and other docs, including the Canuck guys previous, had diagnosed a slightly bulging disk that was not supposed to be as devastating as it was to his performance.
When he came back tot he Canucks when he had the broken toe, they examined him again, and found it was a muscle tear. That is supposed to be healed. All reports from afar said he had good training with Roberts.
He will be reexamined again tomorrow. We’ll find out soon enough.
But like most things with CH, its not outside the realm to get misinformation.
There is no rift just because people say there is. Just speculation that there is.
I guess my nose is less sensitive, or I have just gotten used to the smell!

Well…its kind of like I said…its whatever you feel.
I should qualify that. I don’t think there is a rift. You are welcome to think so if you like. Maybe there is enough meat on the “AV insulted him” bone.
I just think there is sooo much speculation on CH that its tough to read articles that are usually heavy on “unnamed sources say” or…" I heard from a source close to the team…"

Well without coming across as a jerk
I prefer to believe someone with actual sources than just a guy who is skeptical on a random blog. No offense. Or at the very least I think they probably are more likely to be on the right path.

Why? I agree about guys that are supposed to be close. All those guys with the “sources” got it wrong on the injury. Listen to the interview. Not one reporter dug up the story on the most speculated on rookie in a long time for this team.
A torn muscle. Not a disk. They were ALL on the wrong path.
It is just the opinion of a fan that tries to keep up on the team and has 40 years experience with the team and the way it is reported on though. You are 100% there.
No offense taken of course. If you want to think there is a rift…that is fine too.

I am not saying I think there is or isn't a rift
I am simply commenting on who I am more likely to lean towards when forming that opinion.
And I don’t really give the Canucks staff much credit for eventually diagnosing the injury properly. I mean imagine a mechanic taking months and months to figure out what’s wrong with your car. Are you gonna be OK that it finally got fixed or pissed that the idiot didn’t figure it out the first time?

Well, sorta.
Just to keep the analogy going.
I have a car. It keeps not starting. Its a very nice car, one that I paid a lot of money for and was told would win me some races… so I go back to the dealer and say WTF?
He does all the high falutin tests, and comes back and says its the starter.
As long as you keep a good charge, you should be good. Well…OK then…but it still doesn’t run right…cuts in and out too.
Now, I think I have a brand new battery, and I want to make sure. I insist that the dealer get the factory to look at it. I even pay the freight to get it to Cleveland ( yeah, I know, but that is where the Clinic is, work with me! )
The top guy there, reputed to be the best in the world…says it “could” be the starter, but maybe you want to check all the wiring and put it in the shop for the rest of the driving season. Lets shut it down for this season, let us make sure.
I do everything they ask, and the car does start better now that its out of the shop. Runs better too. I race a bit… and I get dinged up in some shitty race and decide to go back to my local guy. You know…its close. Who wants to go to Cleveland twice in one year?
The guys decide that their pride was hurt before, and put the car through its paces one more time.
Halleljah! It was the alternator all the time. Turns out they missed it because all the computer readouts said starter, and it acted like a starter…
They replace that, and it looks like I’ll be good to drive now. Plus, the local guys get some face back ( even though the service manager could be a smart mouthed asshole…seems like an OK guy tho’!)
Going to take it out for a real road test in the next couple days.
It seems like everything is fine, but you never know until you get it out on the highway and really open it up.

The diagnosis
and the “rift” are two separate things.
Whether the diagnosis was right or wrong or is now or not has nothing to do with the coach of the team publicly questioning the integrity and character of their best prospect in many years simply because he doesn’t understand the injury. This kid’s past indicates the opposite of what AV had in his little mind and yet instead of giving him the benefit of the doubt, AV not only automatically thinks he’s “looking for an excuse” but also for some reason feels the need to tell the world of his suspicion to that effect.
Regardless of anything else, that immediately struck me as uncalled for and bush league and I’ve seen nothing since to change that, nor have I seen any form of apology for it.
What I have seen is a 19 year old kid show a lot more class and maturity in refusing to respond to it with anything but professionalism, the pupil showing the teacher.
