September 4 Open Ice

I just can't get enough of the Shorepine Bog near Tofino.

Ah, finally home from a 3 week holiday that spanned Kamloops with family, then camping at Herald Park near Salmon Arm, then visiting family in Enderby, Hope and Abbotsford, and spending quality time in Tofino (stayed at the Crab Inn=sweet) and Parksville at a bed and breakfast (called simply, Our Place). Great times. I recommend all those places for accomodations. I think I put 4000 km's on the car. Well worth it. Advice: don't swim in the Pacific in Tofino without a wet suit. The surfers thought I was nuts. But I'll try anything. Too cold though. Feeling a little hypothermia coming on.C

It's a slow day in the NHL but I'll try to give you all something to read / discuss regardless.

Star-divide

  • How Jonathan Cheechoo has fallen. From a Maurice Richard trophy win with the Sharks now to Dallas Stars' camp on a tryout basis. You can price your way out of this league pretty quickly.
  • Mario Lemieux has been honored in the Order Of Canada. Joining Lemieux are former premiers, a former Prime Minister, Burton Cummings (hell yeah) and Ivan Reitman, who directed Ghostbusters. Why do I find this humorous?
  • Jaroslav Halak was in Montreal today to say goodbye and thank the fans and Canadiens' organization. He then signed autographs and apparently over 5000 people showed up for that. A funny response from a Leafs fan to that on Twitter: "Bah! Toskala had 4 times that at Pearson Airport waving goodbye!" No love. No love.
  • Cam Neely, AHL Prez David Andrews, and college coach legends Jack Parker and Jerry York are the 2010 recipients of the Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the USA.
  • Bobby Ryan and James Neal remain unsigned as restricted free agents. Wow. Times are tough.
  • OT: Universities in Canada are teaching Facebook etiquette. FFS. Need a professor to tell you to skip putting drunken pics of yourself on Facebook?
  • OT: Hurricane Earl storms across the Maritimes. Not much damage. Power loss, trees losing branches, delayed ferry routes...consider yourselves lucky.
  • OT: Christians are damaging sex. Haha, no seriously. I agree with this article, actually.
  • OT VIDEO: A fight breaks out in the stands at the US Open.
  • OT VIDEO:  I can haz restraining order.
  • OT MUSIC VIDEO: Slayer: World Painted Blood. Because I can.
  • GEEZ! I forgot about the daily question. Hmm..what was the best vacation you ever had? The one that stands out most in your memory?

    ahhhh

Cheechoo. He made 3 million dollars this year playing hockey with all-stars, I don’t feel bad for him at all.

    They teach guilt, not abstinence.

    Good article.

    Of course...

…I don’t disagree entirely with the premise, but it’s a little shortsighted to say that Christians are damaging sex when it’s mainly an overtly-conservative element of Christianity that is the problem. The vast majority of Christians I know have a perfectly healthy attitude towards sex.

Canucks fans talking about the Canucks: Pass it To Bulis!

by skeeter_dan on Sep 4, 2010 5:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Any strong Christian should already know that sex is not a bad thing. In fact, it’s actually known as God’s “little piece of heaven on earth”. However, being a Christian is a call to act responsibly and in proper moderation.

So while the article points out the flaws of extreme conservatism in Christianity, which I can understand and even agree in those circumstances, I don’t agree that Christianity itself is what’s killing sex. One of God’s commands to Adam and Eve were to “go forth and multiply.” Now, unless I’m missing info regarding Adam and Eve’s ability to multiply by fissioning (please don’t let that be true!!!!!), it really means “Go out and have sex!” However, He did tack on the “…But ONLY with the one I intended for you.”

So that’s the relationship between a Christian and sex. Abstinence before marriage is a way we Christians honor God. On the flip side, going at it “rabbit style” after marriage is also a way for Christians to honor God.

That’s just my 2 cents on the matter.

Christians killing sex to the Christians who won’t use birth control and have 12 children.

Saw the fight on TV at the US Open then watched the videos later. The old dude actually started the fight so I don’t really feel too bad for him. The other guy was running his mouth but he took a slap from the woman and didn’t retaliate.

Not entirely sure. Some woman freaked out on some dude who had money on the game. He must’ve been complaining or something. She slapped him and he was mouthing her off then some old dude tried to attack him and got sent down 2 rows of seats. All 3 of them are banned from watching the events until 2013.

Best part is the young guy’s friend. He plays it so cool. Doesn’t react to anything and when the old dude attacks he just casually gets up and goes 4 rows up and sits down like nothing happened.

Slightly better video. You can hear some of what he says. Despite what the other fans are saying the younger guy was minding his own business when the old dude attacked. Granted he was cursing them out pretty badly but the woman was getting in his face.

by marcness52 on Sep 4, 2010 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions

    Apparently

the young guy was swearing heavily, the woman told him to stop cursing, he told her to fuck off, and then the shit hit the fan.

without a doubt a month in Thailand for my brother’s wedding and some travel a few years ago. I also had a real good time for 3 weeks at the WSOP last year, but I’m not sure that was vacation or work…i will say i doubt i could normally enjoy 21 days in vegas…

But it was like being at a church. Habs vs Sabres. Gilmour/Hasek vs Linden and Habs. Great game great atmosphere plus I love peeps in Quebec.

Haven’t been on too many vacations in my young life but the best has been San Diego/Las Vegas in 2009. Stayed with my aunt’s family in SD, went to Sea World, Padres game, a wedding, shopping, etc. Las Vegas… when happened there, stays there.

I’m hoping to do a Europe and/or Southeast Asia backpacking type of trip in the future. Possibly Brazil 2014 for the World Cup too. Of course I still need to visit Vancouver sometime.

Mine was Montreal 1999. What a kickass province. Went to a Habs-Sabres game (Linden was with the Habs, Gilmor and Hasek with the Sabres). Loved Old Montreal. I was walking around there with a liter bottle of beer. Ooo yeah. Then checking all the sites between Montreal and Quebec City. Magog and Sherbrooke were pretty sweet as well. POUTINE!
