Canucks vs Ducks Game Preview

Yeah, we bag on Hordichuk a lot, but this pick of Hordichuk Norris beating on George Parros is cool.

TIME: 7:00 PST

PLACE: Rogers Arena

TV: CBC. HNIC baby, woo!

Canucks' Preseason Record: 0-3-0

Ducks' Preseason Record: 1-1-0

The Enemy: Anaheim Calling and Battle of California

Projected Canucks Roster (Canucks.com):

D Sedin - H Sedin – Tambellini: Shine Tambellini shine.

Schaefer – Morrison - Schroeder: This could be fun to watch.

Glass - Bolduc – Desbiens: Glass plus 2 guys who will likely take his place down the road.

Hordichuk – Perrault – Hansen: The last game for Hordichuk in a Canucks jersey?

Alberts – Edler

Connauton – Oberg

Ellington – Tanev

Ehrhoff – Hamhuis

Luongo

Lack

Projected Ducks Lines:

Not available at this time.

Star-divide

The Ducks got their first win of the preseason last night in a 5-4 win over the Sharks. Corey Perry had a hat trick. Fans, especially the male demographic, really benefited from the team scoring 5 goals: free wings at Hooters. Yeah, seriously. Gotta promote the recent Stanley Cup Champion-now slumping Ducks somehow, right? OK OK but the Ducks do remain very interactive with their fans.

Ahem! Anyways..the Canucks' 0-3 record means nothing to me. Hell, they can go 0-4 and I might raise an eyebrow. This is the separating process for Mike Gillis and Co first and foremost. The Canucks' final roster is nowhere near a sure shot at this point. Complicating things is that Cody Hodgson will not play. His time to prove himself to make the final roster is becoming a narrow window, especially when you have a guy like Brendan Morrison who has shown so much potential already. Of course, there is more than one spot available.

I primarily anticipate watching the performances of:

-Connauton, Oberg, Tanev and Ellington on D, as they are the future of the franchise. Off my radar: This could be Kevin Connauton's 3rd straight preseason game.

-Jordan Schroeder. He's running out of time to make the final roster. I think the writing is already on the wall there. He will be sent down to Manitoba.

-Roberto Luongo and Eddie Lack. The last thing we need here is for lack to outshine Lou in the 1/2 game or less that he is given. However, watching Lack so far has been a thrill. I hope he keeps up his solid play. Luongo, unfortunately, has the weight of Canucks nation on his shoulders and I hope he can step it up to ease many fans' anxieties.

Ducks News:

-The Ducks signed Jason Jaffray as a free agent this summer. However, we will not see Jaffray in a Ducks uni for some time as he suffered a torn ACL and sprained MCL during scrimmage several days ago. Tough luck for Jaffray, a player I always liked.

-Anaheim has already assigned 12 players to their AHL and junior teams. Make that 13.

-Ducks' acquisitions of note over the summer: D Toni Lydman, D Andy Sutton, D Paul Mara and F Aaron Voros. Plus Teemu Selanne decided to lace 'em up for probably his last season.

OT: I believe I found some pics of Cory Schneider as a kid:

Just kidding..geez

Ye Gods...

…Someone got the ugly pills out for that Sharks-Ducks game! One hundred forty-four minutes in penalties? Truth be told, I expect that out of Anaheim, but San Jose surprised me with their response!

So, yeah: I think Hordichuk is dressing for this one.

I expect that out of Anaheim

maybe that’s why Hodgson isn’t. :)

Wow

I can’t actually believe they really went through with it.

I think this is the first preseason game in years that the Ducks have played in that will be televised for me. Of course, it’s the NHL Network’s late show at 1 am, but I’ll take it!

I’ll be at the preseason rematch in Anaheim, somewhere in that lower bowl.

The NHL network has been a giant fail this preseason.

Have fun at the game…I may be going to the Sharks / Canucks next week.

Compared to what? Last preseason? I think it’s improving.

Yeah last preseason was stronger imo. Less repeats of games they already showed.

Granted, I’m only judging based on the number of Duck appearances on my TV, and two is greater than zero.

Tambo

Going to be interesting to see what he can do, especially considering since the Canucks have only iced one real offensive line, the Ducks D will presumably be all over them.

Tambellini seems like a decent bet for the top 9 with Burrows out to start the year. I hope he succeeds in that role.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Tambellini’s got the wheels, but he really seems to have a tough time scoring goals consistently at the NHL level, hopefully he finds the touch, because he’s got to have more tools in his belt than just being a speedy shoot out specialist to crack this line up.

Did you seel the goal he set up for Hansen

the guy has got a good hockey brain, good vision and soft hands. In the right environment I think he could really blossom. Whoa!!

didn’t we say that about Bernier?

If Tambellini was so good shy was he buried in the ISLANDERS’ depth chart? I am remaining cautiously optimistic about him in a scoring role

Well I did say in the right environment

which I guess should indicate that I don’t think the Island was the right environment. I am not saying he is going to turn into Ovie but I think he is capable of more than what he has shown so far in his career.

We will start to find out

I don’t think we will learn anything conclusive tonight.

Well even a 3 point night from him will raise some eyebrows, where Shirokov couldn’t do so. But yeah, nothing overly conclusive though

Watching the game

Hey guys, it’s been a while since I’ve posted but I read the site daily. Stoked that hockey is back, but here’s the thing. I’m living over in Japan and I’ve been having trouble finding a video stream for pre-season games. Can one of you fine gentlemen (or ladies) point me in the right direction? Cheers.
