September 2 Open Ice
Good morning.
- Added (10:08 am): As Yankee just put in the fanshots, there's a good chance Nolan Baumgartner could be the next captain for the Manitoba Moose should he not make the cut for the Canucks this fall.
- Behind the Net takes a look at how many points Henrik Sedin will have next season. Vote your conscience.
- No need to worry about what Brooks put in the NY Post last night, Darren Dreger just shot it all down: "NHL sources say no ultimatum was given to the NHLPA." Yep, as we suspected, don't believe everything Larry Brooks writes.
- The Sharks have made it official that they signed Antti Niemi to a 1-year $2M contract. Fear the Fin has plenty of reaction on the signing most of them believed wasn't going to happen because their true need was defense.
- While on the topic of Niemi, congratulations to our reader VCR Milli, who was the only one to correctly guess all 3 categories in Beantown's "Where Will Niemi End Up?" game from a month ago. No official word yet on whether there is a prize.
- How about another story about Alexandre Bolduc and his recovery from shoulder surgery?
- Hey look, the Canucks Reports are back! Yesterday's edition includes Milan Lucic joining the Canucks practice at UBC, a look at the spiffy new mask Eddie Lack designed, and a Q&A with Victor Oreskovich.
- In case anyone is interested, preseason tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 AM PDT. Get your tickets to see the prospects not only battle against the Flames, Ducks, Oilers or Sharks, but also against each other for the last roster spots.
- So, apparently some possibly clinically-insane woman has sent emails accusing Sidney Crosby of being a narcistic drunk sex addict. UPDATE: The story on SBNation Pittsburgh was removed.
Open topic for today: On the subject of narcissism, which NHL player do you think is the most narcistic?

You know
My friend and I had this theory that something was wrong (IE sex addict or something) with Sid, and that’s why Mario was keeping him on a tight leash in his basement.
Not that I believe the emails, just it was a funny theory.
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
He does attribute staying at Mario’s for keeping him on the straight and narrow. Unlike say, the Staal brothers or Kane.

I feel sorry for him then
the straight and narrow is boring. I wouldn’t be the awesome person I am today (cue snickering) if I hadn’t done some pretty dumb shit when I was younger and drunker.

I'm not sure I understand the question
Are you asking who is most narcissistic or who is most different away from the press than with the press? Cuz those are two very different questions, in my mind at least…

Most narcissistic, definitely alex ovechkin…god complex indeed, although kovalchuk’s agent is in the running
Most different away from the press? I’d hazard a guess that pronger is a lot more sane away from the press.

Pronger is great with the press. Now if we’re talking about on ice vs. off ice difference, that’s probably true.
The guy is Peter Schumpmaker. Lord knows what a schump is, but you can bet your bippy his ancestors made them. What he's doing is far worse than crafting fine schumps.

I know he's great
my point was he pulls no punches, and is not very diplomatic at all…which is why we love his press bits and why his team’s publicist probably needs to wear ‘depends’ when he speaks. I’m saying in real life he’s probably a lot more diplomatic with his choices of words.

It’s almost like the NHL and the NHLPA are negotiating in public.
Here’s a Botchford post from last night with a bit more detail about Luongo. It’s sounds like nothing is really new, since the investigation has never been closed and that contract has only provisionally been accepted.

I can’t imagine there are that many vegans.
Protein is key for athletes and you can only drink so much of it via shakes to have success in building muscle.
Poutine & Meatballs
Soybeans are key, the only vegetable with the full amino acid list. Beans are definitely tasty in my books, too.

I’m reading that it might lower testosterone. So don’t eat it every day? Obviously too much of anything can easily be a bad thing. I think you’re just looking for an excuse not to eat another vegetable.

i’ve had trouble finding much on google that isn’t a bodybuilding website..anywhere you can point me?
by Passive Voice on Sep 2, 2010 7:11 PM PDT up reply actions
I tried “soy bad” in Google and the first hit says “Soy is loaded with trypsin inhibitors that prevent proper protein digestion; goitrogen which inhibits thyroid function; phytic acid, a fiber that impairs absorption of minerals; and phytoestrogens which dangerously increase the estrogen hormone.”
I bolded the most important part in relation to this discussion.
IMO, bodybuilding sites probably have better information about nutrition than some random freelancer’s.
Poutine & Meatballs
1. I tried wikipedia and it had none of that except for phyoestrogen, and it wasn’t spun as “dangerous”
2. You can make a case about anything by googling it along with “bad”. Show me some scientific research and I’ll believe you.
3. That article talks about the highly processed soy, stuff that’s meant to act as a replacement for the food you’re used to getting (eg. Soy nuggets vs. Chicken Nuggets.) If you’re having soy beans, tofu, or fermented soy as it talks about in the article and as it’s traditionally been eaten, then it’s not going to have the problems you’re talking about.

It’s a stick-in-rink, green front / blue mesh trucker hat (2 for $25 at Lids, my bro got an Oilers one). It’ll be my go-to hat until the cold weather hits and I summon the stick-in-rink toque out of the bullpen.
I have way too many hats overall…
