Canucks News On Day 1 Of Training Camp
Well you are certainly going to like what Cody Hodgson said yesterday. Hodgson does not hold a grudge against Alain Vigneault for his comments last season, saying Hodgson was making excuses for not making the team in regards to his back injury. "Mr. Vigneault calls it the way he sees it, and I'm looking forward to earning his respect this year, and the years that follow," Hodgson said. "He's a great coach for a reason, and we've had many talks. He seems like a good man. I don't look back. I don't blame anybody. I just want to get going," he said.
A very professional attitude from the kid. Hodgson mentioned that he and the Canucks had been in constant communication all year. More on this at the Globe and Mail, and more yet at The Province.
-Update (3:01 PM): Roberto Luongo is 8 pounds lighter after cycling 1200 miles this summer. First of all, what's that in kilometers? Secondly, I was hoping he'd gain a few pounds in the 5-hole area.
Update (2:54 PM): Peter Schaefer is nervous. He can't help it.
Update (2:47 PM): Alain Vigneault liked the practice today saying the guys came out ready. Also, Henrik Sedin talks about pressure and how it's all about winning this year, even if he scores less points. Plus more, including Dan Hamhuis talking about the Sedins. A great read- TSN
Update: (1:48 PM): "Pressure? I have my kids at home saying they can't wait to pull their old Canucks clothes out of storage. That's pressure." -Brendan Morrison. Puts it into perspective doesn't it? Anyway, Puckworld has a Training Camp Day 1 Notebook up that also talks about Raffi Torres' tats and Alexandre Burrows' not-so promise that he won't flame guys when he does commentary during Canucks preseason games.
-Update (12:53): Thanks to Puckdaddy for a couple more Hodgson links: Hodgson is pain-free, will play in Group C and found motivation from one Abraham Lincoln. Plus: The full Hodgson media scrum interview transcribed here. PLUS: Video of Hodgson interview with the media horde.
-Darcy Hordichuk recently was in Ladner teaching young Vancouver Giants players how to protect themselves.
-Raffi Torres is ready to rock.
-Roberto Luongo is ready.

A very professional attitude from the kid.
Yep, the coach could learn a thing or two from him.
You never know what you don't know until you know it.
Would it really be that difficult for av to just come out and say he was wrong? Hopefully he tells Hodgson that away from the camera at least.
I’m not watching any footage. Too busy painting trim today. So if anyone can summarize or comment on the proceedings feel free

Seems rare for authority to apologize. So long as they give him the chance he deserves.
PS. Painting trim sounds like a hardcore sexual euphemism.

The kid better have a professional attitude. He hasn’t proven anything yet at the NHL level and he spouts off last year. Wouldn’t want that on my team.
I believe he meant running his mouth.
Hockey: The best and most entertaining sport out there. PERIOD!
Heh. Yeah, I think we just meant when? At least in the media, I thought everything he said was valid and pretty normal.

When I read this the first time, I thought it said "Raffi Torres is read to cook"
Guess I’m hungry.
Como estan, beetches?
More Hodgson
Ian Walker with The Sun also wrote an engaging piece about Hodgson and how he used Abe Lincoln for motivation. Also offers the kid’s interview in full.
thanks! I’ll update the post

He posted the entire interview verbatim in Puckworld too. ( I can’t remember a reporter doing that when he writes the story from that interview as well. A comment on the extraordinary interest in CoHo.
Great stuff, left the link in yesterday’s Squid.
Sounds like a fabulous kid.

Great. You may also be interested in the Sun also had a Notebook from Day 1 on its PuckWorld Blog, with Raffi Torres talking about his tattoos and Burrows saying he wasn’t going to rip anyone when he does colour for games this week.

So. With the injury to Kuba ( an Ontario team would be great for the guy) today at Sen’s camp, who thinks Murray calls GMMG about Juice? Or even SOB or AHLberts?

I can just see the other GMs calling GMMG.
“You SURE you don’t want to trade Bieksa now?”
GMMG sitting at desk with fingers steepled, white cat on his lap… taking out the monocle

Trade Bieksa for a first and 3 “sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their heads”.
And maybe throw Scotty in…he’s a good two way evil genius in waiting.
Just needs a chance.

No, Scotty isn’t evil enough. He’s only quasi-evil.

I don’t know…looked like he was about to get into the big leagues at the end of the last movie.
He is a rookie though. Maybe have him in for 9 games to see how evil he can be before sending him to the minors?

As much as I know the top comment is probably accurate, I thought this was a pretty funny ad.
Coal ain’t something BC has to worry about much. Plus electric cars recover some of their energy from the breaking system – something gasoline engines don’t do.
I’d be more concerned with meeting a polar bear. Those things have no fear of humans. The only time Les Stroud carried a gun on any of the episodes of Survivorman was going to the arctic.
well, if the goal of electric cars is to eliminate the worldwide need for fossils fuels, coal-fired power plants don’t really help with that.
but anyway, i’m a sucker for animals acting like peeplez.
by Passive Voice on Sep 18, 2010 7:39 PM PDT up reply actions
I quite agree; but the problem lies in the coal plants and the amount of energy consumption over all, not just in the cars. But folks complaining about “lefty propaganda” should really go to LA in the 70’s and take a deep breath. Then try for a second one. 8)

I'm not a hater...
But, I still think that it would do CH well to play a year in MB, no matter if he pulls a Shiro and has a great pre-season. He’s only 20. He can learn to play against bigger, stronger players. The OHL is definitely not the AHL… Just some thoughts. Love the blog guys!
why thank you!

I think a year in Manitoba would be fine, but if he earns the spot with the big club, let him stay up.
Absolutely, if he shows he deserves to be here, then you’ve got to make space for him. Don’t just put him down because you’re can reassign him without waiving him.

The guy hasn't cracked a roster for a full season...
And that was in long island. He’s decidedly a work in progress. Maybe too old to call a prospect?
My girlfriend’s step-dad’s daughter (I know) works for the Canucks and she says they decided awhile ago that Hank is the new Captain. I can’t exactly give any sources, and he’s already one of the two rumors so it wouldn’t be mind-blowing (or a tough call to fake) but, there you have it.

Loving the high expectations and excitement surrounding your guys team this season— should be a great year for Vancouver. Of course I’m pulling for my Sharks to finally break through, but it’s pretty clear who the best team on paper in the Western Conference is.
Can’t wait for the tilt on November 26th. Should be a good early season indicator of where both teams stand.
