I didn't see Inception yet, but hey, this should make you miss hockey a bit more, right?

I didn’t expect much as I haven’t seen inception yet with, but that was really really well made. Well done.

Theyare wronghave different opinions.
It’s good, I think, but not as good as the hype makes it out to be. In my opinion.

I thought it was pretty damn good. Normally I hate hype movies, but inception was cool.

Thanks for the back up. I don’t normally like movies, so I’m very particular about the ones I actually make an effort to see.

Looks like you’ll have to see it for yourself and form your own opinion. What a concept!
The last movie that totally blew me away was The Departed.
The link is not a trailer or a scene, it’s a soundtrack sample. I don’t watch trailers (why watch the movie after you watch the trailer?)
I’ve seen lots of good movies since, but that one was amazing.
Wonder if anyone on ’NM has an opinion…

The last movie that really bnlew me away
was probably There Will Be Blood.
Frost/Nixon, Dark Knight, Slumdog and Inglorious Basterds were others that I thought we very well done. But nothing like the way I felt after watching DDL.

Wonderfully well done
Yeah, it’ll get a bit tired when every team in the league does this, but they absolutely should.

“The Prestige” and “Memento” were better works by Christopher Nolan.

ps-I spent half the film willing the damn van to hit the damn water already.
Memento = overrated. Yawn. Inception, with its flaws, is a superior film.

Elaborate, BC, elaborate!
My qualms included a curious lack of surrealism in the dream world, a dire lack of humor in all recent Nolan works (even Kubrick could be funny), the fact Leo Dicaprio seems to be playing variations of the same character since “The Departed”, and a few glaring plot holes.
Otherwise it was fine summer’s entertainment, but has no business being regarded as a ‘great film’.
I very much disagree on the lack of surrealism in the dream world. I think that would weaken the film… the idea that it’s imperative to try and keep a grip on what is real is essential to the experience. So what if it’s not what ‘real dreams’ are like (if that’s what you’re trying to get at). It’s science fiction! There aren’t dream-entering-machines in real life either.
I agree that Leo does seem to be playing variations of the same character, but I don’t see that as a flaw in Inception but a flaw in his choices. And anyway, this is his best film since the Departed, so I’m not concerned.
I don’t know if I would call it a great film… but a very enjoyable film. It’s rare that I can decide that a film is great so soon after seeing it. The last film I thought that of was There Will Be Blood. Most films I need to absorb over time… and the fact that they remain consistently memorable is what elevates them to great status in my mind (e.g. The Big Lebowski). Whether this films enters that pantheon for me remains to be seen.
Memento, meanwhile, I thought was just silly in the end. I couldn’t get wrapped up into that world, whereas I was fully committed to the world created by Inception, even though I was cognizant of its flaws. Too be fair, I may appreciate it more if I view it again… since I don’t remember it very well. But I don’t remember it very well largely because I didn’t think that much of it.

Bah!
The lack of surrealism was intentional; they were, after all, attempting to convince their targets that they were in a real world, not a dream.
Canucks fans talking about the Canucks: Pass it To Bulis!
As a fan of the Lynch/Gilliam/Marker/Bunuel’s of ‘dream’ cinema
I felt it was a missed opportunity to have Cobb/Ariadne’s layout of Fischer’s subconscious be so stuffy and bland. Could there not have been opportunities (outside of the runaway train showing up) for Fischer’s mind to overwhelm the fake, polished surroundings?
I think...
It’s more a statement of how Cobb’s mind works. He’s an architect with a very structured way of dealing with things.
