"I'm not sure 'investigation' is the right word," Meagher said. "We're looking at them."
That is NHL Senior VP of Public Relations Gary Meagher pissing on the fire a bit regarding the NHL looking at the extended contracts of Hossa, Luongo, Savard and Pronger. More on this at Puck Daddy and the Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch, who believes the NHL will not void the contracts in question. What did Public Enemy say? Don't believe the hype?

Ha I was actually on the train when I posted that above… which is why the double posting because it appeared I had lost reception prior to the first post. So that’s funny.

Will they? Maybe so, maybe not. Can they? Oh yes, any time they want.

You'll like the way
your multi-year contract is structured.
Beantown guarantees it.

By the way, I think this whole Kovy-contract-voiding business from start to finish has been Wysh and Puck Daddy’s crappiest hour. His coverage has consistently been either wrong or spiteful. I’m quite disappointed in him.

Have to agree. I have been honestly, headshakingly frustrated with him on this one.
Still will go read, but he has made me a less enthusiastic fan as a result.
I don’t see what’s wrong with the coverage? Wysh is obviously a New Jersey fan and obviously wants Kovalchuk to sign in New Jersey for as little a hit as possible, but to say his reporting has been spiteful is a little much. How the Luongo, Hossa etc contracts are legit and the Kovalchuk one isn’t is beyond me.
Seriously?
Just by the very fact that they are not as long, do not try to pay less than the projected league minimum, and have less years at the end paying less than both the 12 year deals?
Or perhaps changing the NMC to a NTC in the last 6 years so he can be easily waived when he is paid that little bit, but the 6 mil Cap hit just magically disappears? Set up just so he can be let go?
Yeah, except for those parts. ;-)
And the normally on the mark Puck Daddy has lost his focus, impartiality, and even his sense of humour on this one.
Considering his sense of humour makes it one of the reasons I like to read….it makes him less enjoyable.
