According to the Province, Alexandre Bolduc has signed on for another year with the Canucks at $500,000.
Also, as eightyseven reported earlier in the fanshots, Shane O`Brien has accepted his qualifying offer of $1.6M for next year.

Bolduc plays centre I believe… does that mean we’ll have 5 centres next year if CoHo makes it?

Maybe we should hang on to Wellfed and Demitra just so we can halve 7 centres.

by SteveNux on Jul 6, 2010 4:07 PM PDT reply actions

actually

I guess 5 is a pretty normal amount… but I forgot Rypen

by SteveNux on Jul 6, 2010 4:08 PM PDT up reply actions

By avoiding arbitration, SOB basically accepted his qualifying offer yesterday, RIGHT?

by Sean Zandberg on Jul 6, 2010 4:13 PM PDT reply actions

not necessarily

avoiding arbitration doesn’t mean a player has accepted his qualifying offer. arbitration is mainly for where the player and GM can’t work things out themselves, and need a 3rd party to make the final call on what the salary should be.

well they were reporting that he had basically accepted it by not going to arbitration. He was gambling that he’d get more by not doing so. We should call him Kenny Rodgers

or that he wasn’t going to get more than his QO I should say

well, yes, in his case it was pretty obvious. however, it’s not always the case, and that’s what i’m pointing out.

Glad to hear it

He’ll be a decent, cheap fourth line center for us.

OFF TOPIC

The Raptor himself, Chris Bosh, to the Heat. Had to give up Chalmers though.

I’d laugh if Wade doesn’t re-sign there though.

You bastard

You really had me going.

Bosh will enter the 2010-2011 NHL draft and go 29th overall. There will be a bidding war between Sather, Burke and Sutter for him. When the dust settles, Kaberle will be a Flame, Drury will be a Leaf, and Nazem Kadri will be playing for the Raptors.

You heard it here first.

No where. Unless he can’t get someone else to come to Cleveland ( Paris on Lake Erie? )

Then maybe Chicago.

So, basically Bosh is the pretty girl that Wade and James have been trying to get back to THEIR place? ( And T.O the boyfriend from high school she has just outgrown…?)

BTW

With Bolduc and SOB, our cap space is $266,667, or roughly 1/3 of what we pay Hordichuk to be stapled to the press box for the playoffs.

I think we will add one more free agent before summer ends

And I am thinking it will be a experienced vet. I went through the list of available free agents (with last season’s salary), who should (and or can) we want?

Centers
John Madden 36 $2,750,000
Mike Modano 39 $2,250,000
Mike Comrie 28 $1,125,000
Doug Weight 38 $2,000,000

LW
Jere Lehtinen 36 $1,500,000
Kirk Maltby 36 $750,000
Fredrik Modin 34 $3,500,000
Ruslan Fedotenko 30 $1,800,000
Paul Kariya 34 $6,000,000

RW
Teemu Selanne 39 $2,000,000
Marek Svatos 27 $2,350,000
Owen Nolan 37 $2,750,000
Petr Sykora 32 $1,600,000
Bill Guerin 38 $2,000,000

by nucklinBadger on Jul 6, 2010 11:26 PM PDT reply actions

looks like Modano to Detroit if anything
Teemu to Ducks if anything
Kariya made $6 million? OUCH
Weight wants to stay out east I’ve read

Fedotenko is my choice

by Sean Zandberg on Jul 7, 2010 12:17 AM PDT up reply actions

I’m gonna say Maltby, cuz he’s cheap and a shit disturber. We need more sandpaper on this team.

I used to like Svatos and Sykora alot, but it seems as if they hit a wall.

Teemu probably hasn’t forgot the Peca hit.

I can like with a Fedotenko or Maltby or Lehtinen.

The Peca hit. Great moment in Canuck history.

by Smoboy41 on Jul 7, 2010 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions

So long as they have some speed – experience is fine, just plain old isn’t.

Comrie can play either wing, which I do like, plus he’s only 28. The down side being he’s not very good defensively and the number of games he’s missed over his career. Same flaw for Lehtinen: he’s only managed to get past 73 games twice in his career, and hasn’t make it to 60 in three seasons.

I’d go with Nolan, Fedotenko, or Guerin (in that order) if we can get them for cheaply enough and if they want to play a reduced role. Guerin is going to be back with the Penguins, I think; either that, or he’s going to be paid more than we can afford. Nolan can play either wing and still has some finish in his game to go with size, and is often cited for his leadership on his teams (which makes you wonder why he moves so much). And Fedotenko is one of those “never quite as good as he should be” guys that frustrates until you lower expectations: he does good stuff in limited time, even if he is rather streaky.

And I’d still love to see an offer made to Kariya for maybe $2 million, just to see if he wants to (a) play at home; and (b) redeem himself for earning such a ludicrous amount of money for the past 3 years. You know, go with the “It’s good for your karma” angle. Hey, it might work!

by Thursday on Jul 7, 2010 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

No thanks on Kariya.

Little bugger had a chance to play here when he was actually good.

A 30+ guy that had both hips operated on last year? Naaah.

I want the Blue Jackets to lose their minds and trade us Filatov for Bieksa. Maybe rob them further and get Russel for the back end while we are at it!

by vancitydan on Jul 7, 2010 1:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Had hip surgery then played 77 games and is a monster for getting in shape. Last season was his worst for point production, and he still got 42. He’s fast, he’s smart, he shoots from anywhere on the ice, he’s a veteran, he plays left wing, and he can play for the home crowd. If he says yes, go for it! If not, well, trades are still there.

by Thursday on Jul 7, 2010 2:14 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t deny his talent one bit.

Its his desire to play at home.

All told, he has had like 3-4 opportunities to come home.

He has never indicated any desire to.

by vancitydan on Jul 7, 2010 2:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, that’s true. The only real difference between now and then is reduced pressure from fans. I don’t actually think he’d come to play for us, but it would be nice.

by Thursday on Jul 7, 2010 3:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Kariya is an interesting option, might be motivated by trying to reach 1000 games and 1000 points. Hard to say what his feelings would be about playing at home. He’s always struck me as being a little on the enigmatic side. Maybe he’s pissed about the way his brother Steve was treated when he played here? Who knows?
