Atlanta signs Ladd to 1 yr $2.35 mill
It looks like Ladd has avoided arbitration and signed with Atlanta, per ESPN. I know many of you wanted him, but I think that's too steep a price and I'm guessing Atlanta isn't selling anyway!

That's funny Beantown
my initial reaction was, “wow that seems cheap let’s go get him”. I want Ladd on the Nucks third line with Malhotra. That would make me happy. Not sure if Atlanta would be willing to move him but maybe they don’t think they can lock him up long term and would like to cash in with some prospects?

Oh, I think that’s a good salary and he’s worth that. I just don’t think we have room for such a salary is what I meant

Juice for Ladd straight up should get it done too.
We save a mil going straight up…throw in someone else and it is even better…tho’ I like SOB for improving last year, and the potential of him even taking a next step if he can finally grow up a bit…maybe throw in Rome or AHLberts…who is better in the East anyhow…he may WANT to go back.
And you still have the LTIR on Salo to use as well.
We can only afford about a $1.5 mill contract if we dump Juice.

Even with Salo and maybe Burrows
on LTIR to start the year?

Well..Capgeek has us at 62 mil before the LTIR…but that is with 26 contracts…3 of those will be in the minors or elsewhere come Oct.
I think it’s silly to get extra players to cover injuries during LTIR. Then you have to dump some players mid-season somehow when you’re back over the cap. I think it’s bad for team mojo knowing that such a dump is likely to happen, and also it’s harder to move players for value during the season than in the off season under this cap. Moreover I think this is a better opportunity to bring in our prospects to get some experience, since even though they will add to the cap, we can put them in Manitoba when Burr and Salo are healthy without losing them or causing anxiety.

That’s what building depth on the farm is for, yeah. The tricky bit is to have enough skill there that can be relied on, but not get snagged on the way up (or down).
Paying someone a one-way contract is one way (ahem) to make them less appealing (even if you needed a goalie, would you take Huet if the Hawks called him up?); another is to only rely on players exempted from the waiver wire.
The first method is what I think vcd is referring to: the owners don’t seem to have any problem burying money in the minors. The second is your preference, I take it?
Looks like
we’re not getting Laddi Doddi.

Yeah…I know. But trades are a prime part of good rosterbation.
Hereafter we will refer to the need for a “Ladd type player” in future rosterbation communications…
;-)
And Laddesque and Laddlike and Laddian. And other things Don Taylor might say.

The Laddian one
strikes again! Wearing Trevor Linden’s old number 16!
