Canucks Development Camp Starts July 6th
The Vancouver Canucks development camp is set to open Tuesday, July 6 when 36 young Canucks are scheduled to report to General Motors Place in Vancouver.
Vancouver's prospects will participate in on-ice practices and off-ice activities.
The off-ice sessions, including a hiking trip up the Grouse Grind and a Dragon Boat run in False Creek, are meant to help players bond and get a sense of the city of Vancouver.
The camp showcases the Canucks top 2010 NHL Draft pick Patrick McNally.
Joining McNally will be the likes of Yann Sauve, Chris Tanev, Kevin Connauton and forward James Henry from the Vancouver Giants, Kellan Tochkin and Prab Rai. Cody Hodgson will not be there, but 2009 first rounder Jordan Schroeder will.
We'll post more names as we track them down. If you're around the Vancouver area and snap some pics, do send them in and we'll get them posted (along with credit to you obviously) ASAP.

what’s the last time you saw a Canucks team this good on paper?
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 2, 2010 6:51 PM PDT up reply actions
That’s a loaded question.
Some of the teams in the early 90s were pretty good.
The height of the WCE times was pretty good.
But there was always a hole.
Gillis seems to be plugging them up pretty quick.
Looking forward to seeing this group on the ice though. I would agree that they are pretty good on paper now.
But I don’t think we are done yet.
Even without an of the kids …and at least one of those should grab a spot (looking at you CoHo ).
Damn…I like summer a lot. But let’s get to fall already!
we look pretty fucking good on paper right now, but then again, so did Calgary last summer. :D

Well…maybe in some people’s eyes.
They haven’t let a young player play anything other than 4th line for a while now…until a young guy is injured.
Their 1st line looked great…on paper…but I would disagree with calling the Flames “deep” last year. They had some pieces…the D’ was looking scary…but..
The defense sure looked like it was made of paper though!
;-)
Said before
the season started last year that elflamo was in big trouble, they had 3 top 6 forwards and the dropoff was steep, not to mention a supposed #1 dman that had no brains.
Everybody knows

Well I got the pistols so I'll keep the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
You have to admit that the blueline looks deeper this year than last year. Especially when that number 1 dman with no brains is now our number 6 dman.

OK, but say Bieksa stays and somebody else gets dealt instead, Bieksa isn’t necessarily the #6. Gillis told Hamhuis he’s not guaranteed the top 2 spot. He told Dan that the players that play the best are going to get the minutes

Yoata and I actually agree
on the quality of the Flames.

But
who else can they deal?
Everyone else has a NTC except Erhoff who was their best dman last year.
I sure as hell hope he’s not thinking of letting Edler go in favour of Biesuck?

No I understand that. I’m just trying to make the point that nobody gets the top 2 spot unless they earn it

Yeah
I’m just wondering wtf Gillisgan is thinking when he says they are keeping Bieksa.

I think that is just posturing.
Having a good hand, but trying to disguise his strength.
Its probably Bieksa, but the thing that makes you wonder is the fact that Ehrhoff is going to get PAID next year…especially if this year is as good as last.
But with having no clause to protect him, I think it’s Juice.. His “skill set” could help a few teams looking to toughen up their D’.
It does seem logical, to trade him and keep Hoff.
and really, MG could wait over a month to pull a deal. So why put that shit on Bieksa now??
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 2, 2010 11:15 PM PDT up reply actions
Posturing, and...
…Ehrhoff would bring more back in a trade. So I think it’s remotely possible he could go that route as well.
Don’t get me wrong, Bieksa is rough, but Ehrhoff had a worse reputation a year ago when he joined the team. So it’s interesting to see what a year can bring.
Gotta play 'em, might as well win 'em.
Yeah but
Hoff was our best dman last year and I don’t see either Ballard or Hamhuis being a #1, Edler yes but maybe not quite yet.
Meanwhile Bieksa is far too inconsistent to even be a top 4 imo, so if it’s about making the team better it’s a no brainer who goes the way I see it.

Geez…I agree again!
The thing with Bieksa is, if he ever plays to his potential, he can be a fantastic player on the back end.
His consistency is what has soured me too.
The more I think of it. He should get a 2nd line winger with size.
I wouldn’t mind a pick or D’ prospect back.
I said a few days ago to Elmo that we’d take Alzner from the Caps…but if it’s true that a lot of the other teams are looking at Juice as a D upgrade, then maybe a young guy they are looking to replace plus a pick coming back would work well too…
I don't see
that kind of return for a guy with 1 year left before UFA, especially considering everyone knows we need to shed an expensive dman now. I’d take a 3rd round pick for him at this point, but if they can parlay him into a better asset great.
I have a feeling that Gillis is sincere about keeping him though, which makes me wonder wtf he’s planning to do otherwise.

I hope you’re wrong. Why the patience from management with Bieksa? I gave up a long time ago.

Who knows
Why the patience with Wellfed, Bernier, Demitra, Hordichuk etc.

Nobody
Wants to admit mistakes!
But yeah, I don’t really get why they would consider keeping Bieksa over a cheaper, better Errhoff. I thought the point of this offseason was to trim the shit off the D and replace it with better stuff.
If we lose Hoff or Edler it pretty much negates one of the Ballard/Hamhuis pick ups.
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
As good and sometimes great as Salo is when he’s healthy, a part of me would rather get rid of him over Bieksa…Just can’t rely on him
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 4, 2010 12:22 PM PDT up reply actions
No way
Salo makes the team better when he plays, if that’s only 65 games then that’s what it is but you can’t say that about Bieksa, in fact I’d bet their record is worse with him in than without.
Everybody knows

18 wins and 9 losses without him in the regular season.
23 wins and 17 losses in the 40 games before his injury and 8 wins and 7 losses in the 15 games after for a grand total of :31 wins and 24 losses with him in the lineup. (all regular season)
The winning % is better without him in the lineup FWIW
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 4, 2010 11:15 PM PDT up reply actions
Thanks
much better in fact, as I had suspected.
And I know that for several years when Salo was in the team won at a much higher clip than without, not sure about last year.

I believe you are correct again, except I’m not doing the math this time :)
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 6, 2010 12:06 AM PDT up reply actions
True, that. The most likely return is for picks, I think; maybe an AHLer or two.. Next year’s draft is supposed to be a deep one, much better than this year, so I wouldn’t mind an addition to our stockpile while we dump salary.
Ehrhoff may be the most valuable asset on the blue line, bringing the greatest return, but I don’t want to see that done. Yeah, he might have peaked last season – or he may have grown into the role, and I’m betting on the latter.
I think this year is Edler’s to take the #1 spot. He’ll certainly get all the chances in the world to do so.
The camp showcases the Canucks top 2010 NHL Draft pick Patrick McNally.
That’s some awesome spin. TOP DRAFT PICK WILL BE HERE!!
They all look like goobers.
