Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

From earlier: "Speaking of veteran free-agent forwards, a source told ESPN.com on Thursday that Pavol Demitra was close to signing a deal with a KHL club in Russia. Named to the Olympic All-Star team this past February, Demitra struggled with the Canucks and was in and out of coach Alain Vigneault's doghouse."

EDIT: So long Demitra! I'll always remember you for this.

This was expected, good luck with your future team Demitra and remember to practice your passes when playing the point on the PP.

by DD WEST on Jul 15, 2010 1:00 PM PDT reply actions

I added that video to the fanshot, but now that I see it again I think a lot of that was Wellwood’s fault.

by blaurg on Jul 15, 2010 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah it was a bad pass by Wellwood, but Demitra should have backed up more and made space between him and Wellwood or had the hockey sense to pass it to Ehrhoff. I’ll say 50/50 blame on both. Either way, both are gone.

by DD WEST on Jul 15, 2010 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, God forbid Luongo actually makes the save …

A sniper’s goal that was not.

All 3 got the goat horns on that play.

Now bring back Bulis.

by Max Currie on Jul 15, 2010 1:45 PM PDT up reply actions

He did make saves

on like 7 other odd man rushes that game. At what point do you stop relying on your goalie and start preventing odd man rushes?

When you trade Bieksa and/or stop treating SOB like a top four defenseman. But that would be just daffy…

I hear ya. Just saying I’m sure he would love to have that one back. All 3 of Demitra, Wellwood and Luongo left a lot to be desired on that certain play.

I certainly do not blame Luongo for the series (or game) loss to Chicago for the record.

by Max Currie on Jul 15, 2010 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

I just don't think you can ever blame

a goalie for letting in a goal on a breakaway. Maybe he should have stopped it but if he does he is bailing out his defense for sucking. If he doesn’t it’s still not really his fault.

link fail

here it is again. long URL’s like that, especially with different characters in it (the comma for example), tend to mess up like that. instead, try adding a link to other words.

Demitra wasn’t the only loss to the KHL today. Caps budding super star Chris Bourque will spend the year there as well.

I would have wanted to see him play for the Blackhawks, or San Jose, or any other major contender, chewing up their cap space.

Just for comedy’s sake.. I also wanted to watch him play on Calgary and Toronto. That would have been so funny.

They should’ve taken the money they gave to Boogaard and gave it to Demitra. I guess that’s too sensible and obvious for Sather.
