"...Still no progress..."

The title would be a direct quote from Mason Raymond's agent J.P. Barry, he of Mats Sundin is weighing his options fame. 11 days remain before Gillis will join the two in Toronto for a painful case of arbitration penny pinching.
To help get you through another summer day of cap problems and roster tinkering, here's a juicy rosterbation idea: Kevin Bieksa and Raymond to Randy Carlyle's Ducks for the rights to Bobby Ryan. Discuss!
In other news, which of the following makes you more sad: decision #1 or decision #2?

I think that would be very troublesome under the cap. Raymond will likely command somewhere in the range of 2 to 3.5 million. Ryan would command in the range off 4+ million. If we do that trade, we will need to dump SOB as well at least. And possibly someone else too, depending on how all the $$$ add up.
But Bobby Ryan would look great with Kesler I think.

Compare the stats:
MayRay: 45 goals, 97 points, in 203 games played, born in 1985.
Bobby Ryan: 71 goals, 131 points, in 168 games played, born in 1987.
BoRy definitely should get about $2 mill more per year with those stats I would think. Man, I always thought he was good, but looking at his stats and his age, wow. Very impressive. He’s averaging 35 goals per full season at age 23!

Ryan is really good
but unlike Raymond he didnt play on a line with Getzlaf and Perry. In the same situation he would of still had more points though
MayRay played with Kesler, who had 75 points in 82 games.
Perry had 76 points in 82 games.
Getzlaf had 69 points in 66 games.
Not that big of a difference. Certainly not enough that one would think the linemates are the reason for any production or lack there of.

also, i’m pretty sure that BRyan didn’t actually play with Getz+Perry too much.

I would take Bobby Ryan over Raymond any day, and dump both Biesuk, MayRay and SOB to get him
by Sean Zandberg on Jul 16, 2010 1:31 AM PDT up reply actions
That would make Alberts and Rome our 6 and 7. And then a huge drop off for 8 (and based on experience, we likely we need an 8 to play at least a handful of games). That cool with you?

Yep
Ryan is a game-breaker, but I don’t make that deal if I’m the Ducks.
Everybody knows

Well I got the pistols so I'll keep the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
Unless you know you can't get him under contract
and that’s the best deal you get offered. Which is admittedly a very long shot.

I would think
a 1st round pick just for starters, and then probably add a good young prospect as well.
They can always let him sit and hope somebody gives him an offer sheet that they can then decide whether to match or take the picks.

Yeah that seems fair
Would MayRay
and Bieksa plus a first be too much to give up?

Considering
we didn’t have a pick until the 4th round this year, yes too much right now. We can’t afford to keep throwing those away like used sock tape or in 4-5 years we will be pooched.

It’s why I think the most likely return for Bieksa (or anyone else off the roster) is going to be picks without a player.
yoata is right.
Gillis was saying he wanted to keep his picks and get more…he thinks the next draft is deeper than the this years.
Ryan would be great, but might require too much more than Bieksa.
Personally, Bieksa in some type of deal with Atlanta for Ladd works for me.
I think his arb hearing is around the same day as Raymond’s.
Everyone talks about Kovalchuk holding up the market, but it might be everyone waiting to see what guys like Ladd and Raymond get before making moves.
Ladd and a 3rd for Hansen and Bieksa.
Though I am like everyone else…having “Silver” to slot in with Kesler and almost anybody would be pretty dangerous.
Well youre comparing only Kesler-Raymond to a whole line of almost a point a game guys and what about the previous season.
08-09:
Getzlaf – 91 points in 81 games
Perry – 72 points in 78 games
Ryan – 57 points in 64 games
Raymond played mostly on the third line in 08-09 and his minutes per game were also way less than Ryans, so linemates and the fact he played on the first line did have an effect on his production.
Although maybe MayRay would get a bit of a salary bonus for having more shout-outs on How I Met Your Mother…

Yeah, cap-wise, it doesn’t solve anything, especially if he isn’t re-upping with Anaheim for $5 million. But oh that second line…

Ryan's more about term than hit
he wants to be UFA as soon as possible. the spec is that he’d have taken 5 mil for 3 years or whatever would get him to UFA.

by Sean Zandberg on Jul 16, 2010 1:32 AM PDT up reply actions
Apparently
turned down 4x $5M too, which would have got him there.
Supposedly wants “just under” what Getzlaf and Perry get, so probably $5.25 I’m guessing.

Yeow!
I mean, 35 goals and only 23 years old is marvellous, but that’s a lot of assets to tie up in one man. Can he produce points on his own, or just finish off what Getzlaf and Perry are leaving for him? He led the team in goals, but was third choice in ice time on that line…
He was a second overall pick
and I believe is still considered to be one of the most talented young American players of his generation. I have no doubt that by the end of a 4 or 5 year deal 5 million a season would be considered a bargain.

I hate the idea of paying someone for what they’ll be worth by the end of their contract, though. 8)
Great finish – be amazing to see what he could do with the Sedins if he wouldn’t mind switching to the right side – but at that price, he’d better be sweating his balls off every freaking shift.
And again, given that Anaheim is playing with a self-imposed cap, can Ryan help build a second line for the team, or is he reliant upon Getzlaf and Perry? I don’t know if Koivu, Lupul and Blake are going to be enough support, and they can’t afford to go with rentals…
So far he’s turned down $5 million for either four or five years. I guess 5% is worth fighting over (assuming your source is correct, yoata), but he’s 23 years old! Is this going to be a sign of future negotiations?
Yes
with the twins is exactly what I was thinking, true finisher, a first for them, and a 2nd line of Kes Burr and Sammy ain’t too shabbily.

If the Hamhuis trading taught us anything, it’s that the rights to a hockey player mean very little. Granted the Hamhuis thing was before the deadline.
according to this article on NHLPA.com, he didnt file for arbitration.
That leaves 3 options, continue negotiation on a new contract, hope for an offer sheet, or demand a trade.
He could also sign his qualifying offer… but I doubt he wants to do that :)

i know
i may like some musical theatre, but i never got into HSM, and the last half of the trailer looked like that.
i do not want to see hockey players singing and dancing on the ice à la HSM.

Decision #1
I don’t really like tattoos and that one is so big and it’s permenant, besides I don’t really like that logo. At least #2 amuses me and could be pretty fun whilst drunk. (Also, hockey good, musical good, why wouldn’t those things combined be good? Wait, it does work like that right?)
If the music is as good as the music in, say “Grease,” I would take #2, but from what I hear in the trailer, it’s not.
The trailer kinda gives a minor shot on Crosby. The kid goes “Cindy who?”
Also saw Theo in there. Why hasn’t Sutter signed him yet?
That wasn't a shot at Crosby
the kid was home schooled and didn’t play organized hockey. So he didn’t know who Sidney was. That is why he said “Sidney who?” It’s a joke about how the kid is so good at hockey and hasn’t even heard of the games best player cause he is so isolated and sheltered. It wasn’t a shot at anyone.

First of all you are a jerk
for making me watch that trailer again. It does sound like he says Cindy but it’s still not a shot at Crosby. The point I was making is still valid. The joke is about how sheltered he is and how he doesn’t even know who the best player in the world is. If he calls him Cindy it’s the same joke and the same premise and sill not a shot at Crosby.

Story Time!
So, several years ago, there was a game in Madison Square Gardens that referee Wally Harris was working. A fight broke out, and the two players dropped their gloves, circled… and circled… and circled… Until finally Harris signalled the linesmen to get between and send them each to the boxes. The penalties?
Five minutes for dancing, announced to the crowds at MSG.
The next day, he got a phone call from NHL president Clarence Campbell about not doing that again.
I can’t find my copy of “The Lighter Side of Hockey” (THN put it out in 2007) or I’d have the player names, too. Anyone have one? Thought it was appropriate… 8)
hahaha! I have that mag at work but don’t remember reading that one!

Wasn't the Juice for Ryan trade with ANA
my rosterbatory idea?
I has evidence.
I would like that trade
Ladd is getting 1.6 mill, Im sure he’d want more.
I’d be okay with a Juice for Ryan trade with ANA :P
