A Bit of Squid: Awards Wrap-up
Lots of awards highlights in here this morning, but first a couple headlines:
- Added (11:46 AM): From Bob Mckenzie on Twitter: Wojtek Wolski has agreed to terms on a 2 year deal with PHX for $7.6M.
- Added: From a reporter for CSNPhilly: "Flyers and Dan Hamhuis camp are NOT close on a deal." Still hope for us?
- Added: Johnny Boychuk reportly signs on for another 2 years with the Bruins.
Will confirm.TSN is saying it's a done deal. - Added: In the SBNation NHL Mock Draft, we selected....
- San Jose Sharks have signed on Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski for 4 more years each.
- Chicago Blackhawks have sent Colin Fraser to the Oilers for a 6th round draft pick.
- Reports have come out that the Thrashers are hiring Craig Ramsey as head coach and John Torchett as assistant coach.
- Henrik Sedin made the NHL's first all-star team, while Daniel Sedin made the second.
- Puck Daddy is rocking the mock draft.
Awards highlights after the jump.
- Henrik won the Hart last night, and you can see his highlights here (or just scroll down the main page).
- How about the voting breakdown? There were a couple tight races.
- Some other acceptance speechs: Duncan Keith for the Norris, Shane Doan for the King Clancy, Ryan Miller for the Vezina, Alex Ovechkin for the Lindsay, Dave Tippett for the Adams, Tyler Myers for the Calder, and Martin St. Louis for the Byng. For some strange reason, Pavel Datsyuk and his Selke acceptance is missing, so I'll try to find that.
- Jose Theodore won the Masterton last night, and has a heartbreaking story behind it.
- There was some other stuff too, such as making fun of Duncan Keith's teeth, Patrick Kane and his bimbo, Mike Green and the Geico caveman, and performances by Snoop Dogg, Cirque du Soleil, Goo Goo Dolls, and Shinedown.
- Wanna see a highlights package with live crowd reaction to the big hits? Jonathan Toews is happy to deliver.
- Finally, the best part of the show: the Ducks skit with Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf, and Scott Niedermayer.

I would be happy if this was the selection.
And am hopeful that Hamhuis signs somewhere other than here.
Gotta play 'em, might as well win 'em.
I can’t see Hamhuis signing here. No worries, there are other options out there to pursue.

I’ve heard more on the Hammer saga. Joys of living in the same town…
-Not surprised a deal with Philly isn’t close. He doesn’t want to sign there
-Wants to play in the West. I still think Anaheim but…
-the doors are not closed on the Canucks either I was told today.

By the way, does it strike anyone that Pavelski signing a deal for 16M over 4 years as a great deal by the Sharks?
Awesome job by the Sharks to lock him up. I’m sure he would have gotten a contract the Sharks just couldn’t match if he reaches RFA.
Yeah definitely a great deal
But Marleau…6.9 mill is what he would have gotten anywhere else, but I still get the feeling like its too much and he may have handcuffed the Sharks.

I'm not convinced
He had a good year and a fantastic playoffs – but so did Chris Kontos. If they’re paying $4 million for a 60-point player, I can’t say that’s worth it. Then again, he’s only 25 and should hopefully improve on his average.
Marleau, on the other hand, has had one bad year out of the last five. You’re right in that it’s an awful lot of money on one line, though.
I wouldn`t mind taking a bet on Pavelski to have the post-season as his platform to develop into a consistent, high-end player.
Marleau is awfully consistent, but if the Sharks couldn`t get to the Stanley Cup with the current group, why are they trying again…. and again…. and again…. with the same players? The biggest change might be Nabokov, is that what they`re basically pinning their post-season failures on?

I don't think Nabby
Is the only reason they don’t make it all the way…all around good guy Dany Heatley isn’t all that much help either.
That said, Nabby does shit the bed significantly sometimes.
