Flyers trade Parent for Hamhuis
Bad news for all of us who wanted to see Dan Hamhuis in a Canucks jersey: he has been sent to Philadelphia Flyers (with a conditional pick in 2011) in exchange for Ryan Parent. The Flyers will still need to sign him before he becomes a UFA in July.
Update: The conditional pick is for if the Flyers should be unable to sign Hamhuis.
I would put my reaction, but it's full of profanities.
Update: The Predators are a little busy today. According to a tweet from Jeff Marek, Jason Arnott has been traded to New Jersey for Matt Halischuk and a 2011 2nd-round pick. Will wait for confirmation. Looks confirmed.

How does this match with what you and Hamhuis talked about a while back? Do you think the Flyers have a shot at signing him?

Well, I just appreciate you saying whatever you feel you can. Thanks!

OK, well vaguely then, the Flyers may have a hard time signing him. A trade with a team in the west isn’t out of the question before July 1. The pressure on Dan mounts now. I know where he wants to play. Every player has a preference but sometimes they have to buck it up and move 3 time zones away from their family. We’ll see…but I’m not sure this is over yet.

The Flyers gave up a bum in Parent, and all Nashville loses is a 7th round pick if Hamhuis does not sign in Philly

But then again, Philly is still looked at as a contending team. Hamhuis could play with Pronger…who the hell wouldn’t want that? So many variables

Yes, this was in the Flyers press release about the trade
“I think Philly has an unbelievable defense corps," said Hamhuis. "To join a corps like that makes the Flyers one of the tougher ones in the league. To play against the teams from the East, the conference has a lot of great forwards. Watching the playoffs, having a great defense will get you a long way."

It’s just not obvious what’s linked and the bulk of the story is in the post. I apologize if I violated something I shouldn’t have.

it’s okay, you didn’t violate it. i was just pointing out that you were repeating the link, and that there was no need to.

Parent is still quite young and has shown promise in the past. He could still be one of those goes who needs 2 or 3 extra years in the minors and then turn into a solid player.

And for the record, I was happy with
I’d be surprised if he signs in Philly.
I really hope you don’t feel like I’ve pushed you into an awkward position. I certainly apologize if you do.

I think it’s a no-brainer that he prefers to play in the west. Like I said before, if I would project where he ends up, it would be on the West Coast. Anaheim or San Jose…But the Ducks are still waiting for damned Niedermayer’s decision. Handcuffed already. The Sharks have a lot of decisions to make. Then again so do the Flyers. Ballsy move by Philly for doing this when they have not signed a #1 goalie yet plus several other key free agents.

I think it must be an almost certainty that he signs with the Flyers. I find it very unlikely that Philadelphia would have done this deal unless Nashville had given them permission to talk to Hamhuis first to gauge the possibilities of him playing in Philly and the type of contract he’d want. I’m sure all that must have happened.

I know where he wants to play.
It’s California, isn’t it? I’d bet Sharks foremost, just because Bay Area seems like it would appeal more to a Smithers resident than Lalaland and their team is better, but LA and Anaheim probably aren’t bad bets either. OH OH OH right, Colorado might work—good young team, play a short ACJazz trip from Smithers 9 times a year, and, though I’ve never been there, Denver seems like a very appealing place for a BC kid.
oooooo, tell them flyers to fuck off, Hammer. If it can’t be Van, it should be San Jose.

nah. after that the well is pretty empty. “love” how the Province said Dan was from Kitimat today. What the fuck

More from the Province today:
Asked if he would part with a draft pick for exclusive negotiation rights for the pending unrestricted free agent, the Vancouver Canucks general manager said it wasn’t a road he wanted to travel.
“First of all, I’ve never understood it from a player’s perspective, unless there’s only one team you want to go to,” said Gillis. “There’s an opportunity to overpay without understanding what the market is and it’s not something I think we would do. But you never say never.”

that’s what is fucked about this. I know Philly isn’t Dan’s choice.

in a non hockey crazed city?

smart move by the preds, making sure he doesn’t end up with a divisional rival. They knew they weren’t going to be able to keep him so Parent and a back of pucks was better than having to face him in the first round of the playoffs!
and losing him for absolutely nothing.

Anyway, if I’m Madden or Volchenkov or Kubina I am very happy about this. Teams are going to start getting edgy and trigger happy about getting some D.

Fucking hell.
I wanted Hammer for the Canucks. Good move by Nashville not to lose Hamhuis for nothing come July 1st. Plus they get rid of Arnott’s monster contract and declining hockey skills. A friend and I were talking today and we came to the conclusion that if Nashville could sign to the cap they would be a contender every year. The GM is that smart. The coach does the impossible with what he is given.

Quite pleased
It seems clear to me that Hamhuis doesn’t want to be here. I’m fine with that, but if he doesn’t really want to be here, I really don’t want him here either.
Hopefully we can attract a FA d-man that actually wants to play in a city where the fans care about hockey.
Gotta play 'em, might as well win 'em.
i’m beginning to think sean is throwing up a baller bluff, and that Van really is Hamhuis’ first choice. i’m going to continue with this possibly-delusional line of thinking until reality punches me in the nuts and he signs with, like, dallas.
Dallas has a bankrupt owner and two groups competing to buy the team out over the next few months. They will not be a buyer team this offseason!
