Sigh where do I start? I have been a fan since 1998 and I've seen different versions of Canucks. At the start of the playoffs I didn't think we had much of a chance. We got through LA, albeit a little lucky. I became hopeful again. But now I'm looking at a familiar picture all over again: early playoff elimination. The reffing is inconsistent, if Alberts is getting called, Hossa should go to the box on the Burrows hold as well. A shove from Daniel Sedin warrants a cross check? I don't think so. So if we can't come back miraculously and win the series, here are the things we need to address:
#1 Shut down d-man
We had Willie Mitchell but I don't think we are resigning him, and I don't think he is good enough in this day and age anyways. Every championship team has one, and we should have one if we are to be considered legit contenders. Anton Volchenkov would be the ideal guy. He blocks shots, is young (29), hits like a truck and he's an unrestricted free agent. Sign him. Dan Hamhuis or Dan Girardi would be two other options.
Fix the PK
Our PK is shit. We gotta figure something out here. This 65% is unacceptable.
Supposedly we have fixed this already but I guess we didn't. I wouldn't be surprised if Kesler and Burrows are both hurt. Samuelson has been a great pickup so far, but we need to add on to that. We need offense from our 3rd line as well. We got too many tweeners now. You are either a top 6 or you're a grinder. To me Kesler should not be a 2nd line centre. I'm the biggest Kesler fan out there, but I honestly don't think he is talented enough to be a top 6. We need to address this. If we are to keep Kes as a #2 centre then we really need to sign a shut down centre. A 1999 John Madden-esque guy.
Too soft. We need to be tougher. Maybe we need a rah-rah guy. We need some good old Canadian kids!
