I remember a bunch of us could not find the footage of Malkin hitting Mitchell into the boards. Well leave it to Puck Daddy to do so. Filthy stuff Malkin, you little bastard. You're gonna get yours. Mitchell called out Colin Campbell big time today. We'll see how CC responds.

The NHL really needs a new disciplinarian. How a hit like this (or the ones Richards and Cooke gave) goes unpunished is beyond me. Dirty hit by Malkin

Well, we will refer to Colie’s handy dandy suspension chart (thanks DGB)

He will then exclaim some form of righteous indignation for Willie daring to question the sanctity of the league and its decision making process. (After all, he is basically a mindless vegetable now.) He will then fine Willie and the Canucks $100K for making the league look bad.
and here’s an interesting coincidence: this hit happened within that same week that burrows called out auger….

Also on Twitter.
since they posted it, a bunch of media types have commented about how dirty the hit was… it pisses me off because they dismissed us when we tried to tell them about this when it happened.

dear god… please. I will stop being so damn evil all the time if you make this happen. 6 chances to pound that scum to dust (in a non-Bertuzzi-ish manner)? That would be soooo good…

I’ve always hated Malkin and thought he was a dirty player for things like this, slew foots, and a kicking incident (Lecavalier was on the receiving end, 2006 Olympics. Assuming I’m remembering correctly of course)

I’m a fan of both teams. Malkin’s still my favourite player. One hit won’t change that, not his fault he didn’t get suspended after all. I’m not condoning what he did but I don’t dislike him because of it, plenty of this stuff goes on all the time
Flame me if you like though
Career ending hits to top-players don’t happen all the time actually (and thankfully). But if it is a sign of things to come, then Mitchell was dead-on saying that the league needs to make a change in discipline these players more severely – using a 3rd party or some other option.
How will I respond?
We’ll see how CC responds
I’LL TELL YOU HOW IM GONNA RESPOND. IM GONNA START KICKING ASS AND TAKING NAMES, STARTING WITH THE ENTIRE DISCIPLINARIAN TEAM OF THE NHL.

I went back into my recorded archives and found my copy of the full game and watched that hit again…what really caught my attention was AV looking at him sitting on the bench…very concerned. Clearly, Willie didn’t know where he was…scary.
that look on his face when was sitting on the bench. Gonzo

Watching this a few months later, I think one of the things that bothers me the most is how quickly the linesmen were to jump between Malkin and any Canuck that was trying to confront him (not named Demitra). If he actually had to take some kind of accountability for any of his dirty plays, he might think twice before he dropped that next slewfoot/board/whatever.
I understand he’s a star… but there’s NO deterrent whatsoever.

Do we know if Geno called Mitchell since that hit?
'Nucks Misconduct - Housing Swedish Millionaires Since 2000.
I doubt it
Willie would have mentioned it or the media would have asked him I’m sure. We would have heard it somewhere, someplace.

The NHL looks like a bunch of sleazy cops covering for each-other (actually, some of the referees ARE sleazy ex-cops).
The referee on the game didn’t call a penalty on the Malkin hit. So, what does Campbell do? He chooses no suspension, so that the referee who didn’t call a penalty doesn’t look bad. A suspension would be an admission that the referee made a mistake.
The number one rule, when it comes to cops, is to cover each-other’s back. Justice is way down the list of priorities. Almost irrelevant.
Mitchell’s suggestion that there should be an independent panel deciding on suspensions, terrifies these sleazy fatheads, because that would mean that fairness would come first – an entirely novel concept to the NHL.

malkin recieved a 2 minute penalty for the hit. but he could have called hitting from behind and didn’t and that’s where the first fail lay…

With regards to being fined by the NHL, every time one offers constructive criticism – I used to live in a country where such a rule existed, these days we call such a system communist dictatorship. And fairness was not a priority for those assholes either.
Willie offered contstructive criticism, in a very polite manner. An organization that claims to be fair would ENCOURAGE its members to offer such a criticism, not fine them, for God’s sake. It’s time that the NHL PA grows some balls and stands up against this appalling rule. Are we living in the dark ages, or what?

Wow, he's getting fined.
Sometimes I cannot fucking believe the NHL. He calls them out on their shit and they fine him. Fucking bollocks.

They fined him? Really?
NHL League Office is a bunch of fucking morons. They have screwed the pooch on this one from the second it happened.
Running a guy from behind and cheap shots in garbage time need to be eliminated from the game. Now they’re actually fining the guy whose season, and possibly life, was ruined? For shame. Good on Mitchell for calling out those douchebags, and I hope there is a metric shitton of REAL bad publicity for the league to follow, especially if they really did fine him. I’m having a hard time believing that, although this is the NHL, so I’ll believe anything this side of actual sanity and logic.
