We Bleed and You Suck! Canucks Beat Hawks To Extend Series

I'm not going to get into this game too much at this point as emotions abound. But that was the Canucks doing about everything we hoped they would do to extend this series. Discipline (for the most part -fuck you refs), increased pressure in Chicago's end, better coverage in front of Luongo's crease, Lou being solid...

Well well well all of sudden we have a series!

That piece of shite Quenneville had Ben Eager out on the last shift and Ehrhoff is lucky Eager didn’t put him out of the series with a cheap slash across the wrists. What a piece of garbage Eager is (as is Quenneville). Man, if we can somehow get past Chicago, I honestly don’t care what happens with Saint Joseph.

I know what you mean, but we’ll care if it comes to that. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

And if the series goes the other way, I want to see Douglas Murray knock the smirk and mullet right off a certain pest who didn’t look like such hot shit last night.

The story of his rise to NHL stardom (can I say that? Is Burrows an NHL star?) is a nice feel-good story, but yeah, not an easy guy to like if you’re playing against him.

I still don't understand

why Hawks fans are so upset about what happened with Bolland at the end of game 3. I think if that’s not Burrows they would have forgotten it by now. He came in to protect a Sedin and basically punched the back of Bolland’s helmet a couple times. It was the kind of thing you see dozens and dozens of times every season and no one remembers the next day. Unless you have an axe to grind against a certain player.

You would be just as pissed if it happened to one of yours.

by Beyr on May 10, 2010 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

No I wouldn't that's the whole point

I was trying to make. Those kinds of things, punching and shoving and punching at the benches those things happen in 15-20 games a year with skirmishes and one player grabbing another from behind and punching him. It happens so much I don’t remember ever getting mad about it happening to one of the Canucks. I can remember being pissed at the other Canucks for not jumping in to help sooner. But getting worked up and calling what Burrows did a cheap shot tells me you either never played hockey or just hate Burrows and don’t judge his actions without bias.

Would Burrows punch really have injured and sent Bolland off for any time. Not really. Was Eager intentionally trying to injure our star defenseman? Taking a whack with 2 hands on the stick to a guy looks like intent to injure in my opinion.

by marcness52 on May 10, 2010 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree on the first part

but not necessarily on the second part. It was a slash and slashes are always somewhat dangerous. Not sure about the intent to injure part. I would have to see it again.

Yeah my feelings on slashes

are that they happen a lot all over the ice and just because it was the lat seconds doesn’t make it dirty. I would have to see it again as I said but my initial reaction when I saw it last night was that it wasn’t a big deal.

Fights dont bother me.

And there’s nothing wrong with jumping in to defend a team mate. Hell, I wish Burish would start doing just that. My issue with the Burrows hiw was that he wasn’t trying to do either of those things. He shoved Bollands head directly into the boards. It wasn’t a poke, it wasn’t a punch and it had nothing to do with the BS that Sedin started. His actions, in that particular case, screamed intent to injure to me. The line between “contact after the whistle” and plain, dirty BS was well behind him on that one.

In regards to the recent postings about Luongo deflecting the blame onto his players, from what I’ve read after today’s game he seems to deflect praise away from himself too, so maybe that’s just the type of guy he is, rather than blaming the rest of them when they lose

by andrew21nz on May 10, 2010 2:22 AM PDT reply actions

Kelly Hrudey or maybe it was (can’t be cuz it may have been intelligent) Milbury made a comment last night about the goalie being a captain is bad, because if they have a bad game how do they go talk about their team after, which is a captains job. It was a good point; some people here are quick to jump all over luongo for ‘throwing his teammates under the bus’, but the captain HAS to talk about the team, not just himself. Luongo does often say things like “I need to be better” and “I need to stop those”.

Twilight came to mind when I read the heading, gross.

Someone on SCH pointed out that we may actually control the series. When we decide to play well, we win decisively. When we’re complacent, whiney, and irresponsible we blow and lose. Keep outplaying 5-on-5, bury our scoring chances, and have Luongo play well (no rebounds!) and we can pull it off.

Next game’s gonna be a gongshow.

again with the reffing

Can we please get some refs in their late 40s who have some recollection of playoff hockey. There are just too many phantom/bs penalties being called, I really don’t understand why a ref doesn’t see the the Seabrook (Campbell?) fall in the first. At least one of you has to follow the puck. There’s two of you fuckers out there! Christ. Diving is becoming way too common as a result, we don’t want a soccer game breaking out.

Sedin’s need to make a bigger impact next game, not a big concern, just turn it up a notch.

To be fair, Burrows stick was in the area of Keith’s feet (but he didn’t trip him) so I can understand why a ref perceived it as tripping, depending on the point of view of the ref that made the call. Throw in the fact that it’s such a fast game and the ref don’t have the benefit of video replay for penalties, it’s natural that they’ll make mistakes like that.

And the Canucks got away with some penalties of their own (ie. trip on Toews).

But seriously, I’m reading way too much complaining about the officials EVERY game. Getting pretty sick of it…

Bang on the money. The Burrows call was bad but from the angle the Ref was at you can see why he made it. The Reffing needs to get a bit better but it’s getting annoying to read people complaining, and even more annoying are the ridiculous conspiracy theories, after every single game.

Whoa, conspiracy? We're getting a bit sensitive I think.

Not sure who the writer is thats being referred to, but my comment is a general one about the fact that refs are putting up their arm in virtually every case where someone falls or is knocked off the puck. Lets make it clear I’m not talking against the Canucks only.

Its causing WAY too much diving, by ALL teams. Kesler was guilty of one last game against Hossa I believe. He felt the stick and dropped to the ice. Players are getting really good at it and the refs must fume about it when they watch the tape.

The league needed to speed up the game, get rid of the goons and they’ve done it. It worked. Now its time to let these skilled players play. I don’t buy the game is too fast, there is only one puck and there are two refs. Lets give them some credit that they are capable of reading a play as this is their full-time job.

by shanghaid on May 11, 2010 3:44 AM PDT up reply actions

It's not sensitive and it wasn't directed at

any one post or poster in particular. Remember this fan shot? http://www.nucksmisconduct.com/2010/4/19/1432070/conspiracy-time

This is typical of Canucks fans. How about right now WAACH trying to stir up some bullshit story about the Hawks luggage. Trying to find disrespect where it doesn’t exist. It’s a symptom of Canuck fans. The Ref blew a call but it hasn’t been as bad as anyone seems to think. And it’s been pretty even if you ask me. No one team getting screwed more than the other. The complaining about the Reffing constantly after every game gets tiresome. The one Ref from last game played Major Junior Hockey and played for Mike Babcock at one point. So he is certainly much more qualified to Ref high level hockey than any of us. And he doesn’t get the benefit of replay and slow motion. Sure I saw that Keith stumble as a stumble. But I had the better camera angle. The Ref was on the ice and from his vantage point it looked like a trip. It sucks but it happens. We killed it off so no harm done. And these things even out of the course of a series.

Agree

I fully agree that Canucks fans generally are quick to find excuses and go by emotion rather than fact. The fact is the Canucks lost this series b/c of games 3 & 4. More composure would have got them at least a game and gave them a shot. Spotty reffing was just salt in the self-created wounds.

I turned off the TV after the 5th goal and am now going to get on with my summer. Maybe watch a bit of Suns-Lakers. Lifelong Lakers fan, but would be happy to let Nash have a go at the title this year.

yeah because a guy who plays around 4 or 5 minutes a game on the ice in a game that’s out of reach would never be sent out to send a message and fuck someone up, right?
Eager’s such a douchebag he’s even done this when his team was winning. It was Eager who ran our goalie in that 8-2 blowout against the Flyers a few years ago. Sorry, I know we never agree on anything, but I think you’re just flat out wrong about Eager and Quennville for that matter.

I didn’t think he was as bad as everyone said in Game 4. Probably not his best game but I still think he’s top 4 material. Even with that terrible giveaway last night, Alberts is looking more and more decent out there. If he can keep improving he might be a reliable top 6 defenseman if he can start using his size more to his advantage without taking penalties.
