I'm not a nucks fan but

I've been saying this the past 3 months and people have been calling me crazy. I seriously think they can make the finals. Let's start with this the Sharks are notorious choke artists and have only made it to the conference finals once. As for the Blackhawks I think the matchup is even there, and if you get consistent play out of Luonogo unlike last year you guys wins hands down too me. Everytime I see Vancouver play I get more and more impressed. A resilient win against the Avs in Denver congrats I look forward to watching you play in the playoffs.

I think the Canucks’ playoff success will really depend on Mitchell and/or Bieksa because their current D is starting to show their warts and you can only hide that for so long.

True

but Luongo looks shaky, and when is shaky you dont get good results.

Luongo is far from the god -stature that I’ve seen him in the past. His blunders are hidden by his team’s success

Hopefully he rounds into form with some help from Willie and Bieksa.

While our league-leading tendency to win while down makes for entertaining hockey, a fricking 3 goal deficit in the first won’t fly come playoff time.

Scoring first is vital. Momentum’s so hard to gain and easy to lose. Even tougher to muster when you’re behind.

Scoring first is NOT vital, despite the commentators repeatedly trying to convince everyone that it’s so. The probability of winning when scoring the second goal is just a smidge lower than when scoring first. Same for scoring third…and fourth, and fifth, and sixth.

Actually what IS important is to score goals…and keep them out. Over 60 minutes that’s what Vancouver did. Coming back from 3-0 after 20 minutes is a surprise but hardly the miracle that say, coming back from 3-0 after 40 minutes, or 55 minutes would be.

Same for coming back in the third. If you’re only down a goal…all you have to do is score two goals in the third, while not letting any in yourself.

The reason that the Canucks are pulling this off isn’t because they’re clutch. It isn’t because it’s some miracle. It’s because, to the massive surprise I’m sure to all eastern based sports media, the Canucks actually score a lot of goals!

Baha, guess they made a believer out of me.

Leads just make my heart stop racing.

If we make it to the finals, I think the only team I really worry about the Canucks playing would be Washington even though we did beat them when they came to town. If they get decent even passable goal-tending which is very much possible with Varlamov then they’re going to be a tough team to beat with all the scoring depth they have. When we make it to the finals, I certainly hope some other team in the East will have knocked them off because that team is scary.

So are the Pens. Buffalo versus Vancouver would be an awesome series.

Two pretty even teams…and a goaltender matchup from the Games.

The Caps and Canucks are the two highest scoring teams in the league, but you have to like our goaltending edge.

Speaking of which, Luongo has basically the same numbers as last year, but everyone thinks he is a fail.

Probably just misses his kid and wants to sleep in his own bed!

Any of those teams would be an awesome matchup vs. Vancouver.

TBH, I’m more worried of the playoff bracket vs. our Conference, which is like every game up until the SCF hahaha.

Buffalo-Vancouver would be my dream match up. Both came into the league in 1970, neither has won a cup, someone’s streak is going to end.

So don't get violent and don't get caught with your head down, the night she stole the moon.

I’d like to get all self -righteous about even contemplating the Canucks in the SCF before the playoffs have even begun.

But right now I’d rather just give Jamian a big ol’ hug. I love you Man!

by kesrows on Mar 10, 2010 10:55 AM PST reply actions

Same here. I know what you are saying about the sacrilege of it all.

But Jamian gave us an opening…and we kicked the door off in our eagerness. Or, I did anyhow!

I hear you though Kesrows. Lets get out of the West first. No mean feat.

So, who do we want in the first round? I say….Colorado…just because we seem to own them this year.

But the Flames would be the most fun to put out.

I guess right now for me looking forward is I want to play whoever is in the sixth spot.

I don’t see us having much of a chance at first or second. So finishing third means we did everything we could to put ourselves in the best possible position.

I’ll leave it to the Hockey Gods to sort out whomever it is we play, and be content with the edge of home ice for the first round, and hopefully more.

by kesrows on Mar 10, 2010 11:44 AM PST up reply actions

That home edge is going to be vital: Vigneaut loves those line matching games, and when he can then our chances of winning skyrocket.
