Let’s translate this to playoff success, okay?

I didn’t get to see the 3rd period, I had two ball hockey games to play, but it’s interesting to note that Alberts and more ice time than SOB. Has Alberts been looking solid out there?

Alberts looks like a hit and miss. It’s early though.

by Sean Zandberg on Mar 7, 2010 8:18 PM PST up reply actions

Liked what I saw of him. He’s huge, hits, has good instincts. As he acclimates himself to the team he will get better. He was chasing down a puck in his end and looked a bit lumbering but wasn’t slow and he beat the other team’s player to the puck.

by Bobby Canuck on Mar 8, 2010 9:00 AM PST up reply actions

I remember that play. Yeah, he can skate. There were other times in his own end where he was committing several errors though in regards to making smart plays to clear the puck out

    tough crowd...

Ithought he was pretty good vs. Nash.

Like, best D’man for the team good.

I said “it was early”. He’s only going to get better and better as he gets used to the guys, IMO

by Sean Zandberg on Mar 8, 2010 9:34 AM PST up reply actions

No arguing at all. Just that, playing D’ ( I did …waaaaayyyy back when ), is a tough position. You do lose the puck on the forecheck from time to time…just being outnumbered. Its the stick-to-it-iveness and backing up your guys. Not panicking. I thought that is what I have liked best in hime so far. He doesn’t panic too much. Edler, for one, could learn from that.

He did save a goal yesterday too, on the PK…after Luongo made a save, with an open net. No tip…just stopped the puck dead with his stick.

    He will get better too.

Not bad for a million and a bit!

    Re: Alberts

If Alberts looks better than Rome, it was a good move in my opinion. He’s also signed for next year at a good rate, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding our D for next year.

Knights, Canucks, Dolphins, Jays and Raptors all the way.

    Agreed

In addition to locking up key guys long term, I think Gillis deserves major credit for increasing the depth of the team – think of Ehrhoff (obviously), but also Alberts, Raycroft, Rome, and even Lukowich and Baumgartner. Aside from Ehrhoff not all regular contributors, but they’ve stepped in adequately when needed.

It’s telling that the Canucks have had 40-win seasons 7 times in the 2000-2010 stretch. Vancouver has really become a strong tier-2 contender, and as the Sedins, Burrows, Kesler, Luongo, Edler, and others continue to develop, I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be playoff contenders more and more as the ’10s progress.

Lou’s injury last year….they could have had the record last year perhaps? Oh wait, then there was the January losing streak from hell…

Also players are usually giving 110% and just want to help the team however they can. Also I have heard that teams take one it one game at a time.

I will let my agent deal with that, right now I am just concentrating on playing hockey and doing whatever I can to help this team win……

I’m glad you took these jokes well. I was worried you would think we were piling on. It’s the fault of hockey players everywhere that these types of cliches have no seeped into our everyday vocabulary.
