What is the word on Big Willie? Any timeframe for return?

Three Other Segments
There are three other podcast segments from that same conference call, which took place the afternoon after the trade deadline
The entire thing is petty much boilerplate, except in segment three. He talks about the Canucks having significant plans for Corey Schneider, whcih they will discuss with his reps soon. Any idea what those plans might be? Unless they involve trading him to a team that needs an NHL goalie, I can’t imagine he’ll be too excited.

When does Schneider’s contract expire?

According to NHLNumbers.com, he has one more year on his deal before he becomes an RFA

Raycroft is a UFA soon, so I guess it’s possible that the team might start the season w/CS as a backup next year. Raycroft’s real objective this year was to start playing himself back into a starter’s role somewhere.
The opposite of serious is not funny; the opposite of serious is unserious.
Or even as a back up. If you could take Labarbera, Sanford or Raycroft who you would take in support? I’d guess he’s more at LaBarbera’s level than Sanford, but even then he’s still back-up material and he better be behind a decent defense in that respect as well.

Do you think Schneider would be happy to take a backup role behind Luongo, especially seeing the number of games Raycroft has gotten this year? I’m not asking to be argumentative, I’m genuinely curious. Every year they say, we have to give Luongo less work, and every year he plays an ungodly number of games in a row. Maybe they mean it next year? Maybe they are intent on giving Schneider a chance to prove himself in a limited role as an NHL backup in order to make him a more valuable trade chip? I just wonder if Schneider is that patient. He’s got to feel he’s ready right now.

It would make sense. He doesn’t have many NHL games under his belt. I think his game is really coming around too. Despite the crappy effort the Canucks gave him in his only start this season he showed up and only let in 2. The main thing I like about him is his size. You can’t teach size and I think he’s ready for the NHL. Give him a year as backup and hopefully he perfomrs well enough to be part of a trade that makes him a number 1 somewhere.
No way… Gillis won’t give away a chip with as much value as schneider for just a draft pick unless something really spectacular is coming in the draft. I could see him going for a 3-4 million dollar forward and draft pick or a top 4 defenseman and a pick.

I already offered one of my buddies whose an Oiler fan Schneider and Hodgson for Taylor Hall. He’s thinking about it.
