The Canucks are being called the Cardiac Kids after yet another come-from-behind victory last night over Columbus. It's a beautiful thing. Now they face a Detroit team that may finally be turning things around. The Wings have 2 consecutive victories for the first time since January 9th if you can believe that. They have not won 3 straight games since December 17. Even more insane.
Looking at their stats above plus the decreased production from Pavel Datsyuk (51 points in 60 games) and Henrik Zetterberg (48 points in 54 games) and you have probably the biggest reasons why this team barely holds a playoff spot. Oh, and I guess replacing Marian Hossa with Todd Bertuzzi was not very bright either. But hey! Better them than us!
However:
-Datsyuk has 4 points in his last 2 games.
-Zetterberg has 4 goals and 5 assists in his last 10.
-Holmstrom had 3 points in a 3-2 win over the Avalanche on Monday.
-Johan Franzen has 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 4.
-Niklas Lidstrom has 1 goal and 3 assists in his last 3 games.
But:
-Bertuzzi has no goals and 5 assists in his last 11 games.
-Chris Osgood has fallen from grace and has not played since January 27.
-Jimmy Howard has taken over between the pipes.
Welcome back to the Canucks net, Roberto Luongold! Now kick some ass! We haven't beaten these guys yet this season.
Henrik Sedin, where have you gone? Now only 2 assists in your last 8 games. Dig deeper, man! Sidney Crosby only trails him by 1 point in the scoring race, and Ovechkin has pulled ahead by 9. Kiss the Art Ross and MVP goodbye.
Maybe he's letting Dank catch up to him a bit.
Go Canucks! Kill the rotten Wings!

3-2, 87 in OT
Haha, imagine if Babcock lost like that tonight.
But on the real. Same score, Hank with the winner.

So much fail...
Sportsnet analyst, whose name I don’t know, while I was home for Lunch going on and on about how all the other teams around the Nucks improved and the Nucks didn’t. I will use his example that the Flames had needs and they addressed them. First of all, they didn’t address their biggest need and that would be someone to play with Iguana. But fine let’s say they did have needs and filled them. Wouldn’t you rather be a team that didn’t have significant needs than a team who did and tried to fill those needs at the deadline? I mean there is no guarantee that those needs have been filled with the trades the Flames made. The only thing we know is they have different players now. We don’t know how those players will play, how they will like their roles, how they will respond to coaching etc etc etc. What we do know about the Nucks is that our team was pretty good before the deadline and is still pretty good. When healthy our top 6 is Salo, Edler, Ehrhoff, Bieksa, Mitchell, Alberts? If I am not forgetting someone. So no real needs there. Our top 2 lines with Demo getting back to form are good. We have toughness and faceoff ability on our 4th line. Shot blocking too. As far as I can tell our only real weakness right now is our third line center. We were a team with some needs but when healthy not very many and I would rather be a team with few needs that didn’t get addressed than a team with all kinds of needs that made desperation moves at the deadline.
Plus if you are going to be an analyst you can’t just say that the Flames addressed needs and the Nucks didn’t. Shouldn’t you also have to demonstrate that the Flames are now as good, cause they had ground to make up, or better than the Nucks?

Meh, most of the teams making big trades are doing so for a playoff push/investing for next season. Besides, team chemistry isn’t guaranteed with the pick-ups either.
We just need our main guys to recover from injury to get us complete again.

Yeah…I was talking back to my TV a fair amount too. The only thing I was surprised about was that we didn’t trade Cory Schneider.
But I trust MG in that when he says he didn’t make a deal for the sake of making one, and there was nothing that truly improved the team…I am OK with that.
Bieksa is back soon…Alberts looks like a defensive D’man to fill in for Willie.
Rome has been…OK…but now he doesn’t play more than 8-9 minutes a game.
Baumer goes back down. We got Yan Stasny to play with Shark.
I’m OK with it. The 3rd line centre thing is OK. Welly …if he can play as well as he did last night (solid in both ends ) consistently…we are OK.
The Flamers are desperate, and Sutter is obviously worried about his job. I doubt that all the smoke being blown up their ass is at all warranted…but then these analysts have always had a thing for the Flamers.
Whatever…Oh yeah…we got rid of Schneider and got a player and a pick. That was a good deal too.

Prob Spector?
He had an article saying how the Canucks should go and give up Cory Schneider for Hamhuis.
Realistically, if Hamhuis costs CS, and Alberts costs 3rd, I’ll take Alberts every single time. Alberts is a good contract fo rnext year too.
Knights, Canucks, Dolphins, Jays and Raptors all the way.
Yeah…he is an Oiler guy…the one with Taylor and Valk, right?
No surprise he was ragging on the Canucks.
Whatever…they all have to say SOMETHING to justify being up since 5am!

Clagary was just an example he also said the Ducks, Coyotes, Kings even the Oilers addressed needs and the Canucks didn’t. Would have loved to have heard what he thought our needs were.

I like Gillis not buying into the trade hype. Doesn’t seem like the guy to settle.
I must say though, I laughed at the thought of Calgary and Edmonton as trading partners.

What an idiot. The Preds are set in goal with Rinne and Ellis for a while. CS would just be sent to the AHL… again.

Exactly. That rumor was horse shit. Besides, the Pred’s GM said last night that he would only trade Hammy if a deal came along that blew his socks off.

A lotta teams made the announcers happy by giving them something to talk about, but having “needs” today for which they traded away tomorrow’s draft picks is hardly anything to crow about. Best of all, they bought on the most expensive sale day of the year. O frabjous day, c’mon let’s play!
So I like our gentler approach this year. A 3rd line center? Why not Demo, between Samuelsson and Hansen? Put Grabner back with Kes & Raymond and there, plus we’ve got the triplets, so there’s our 3 good scoring lines. Man, it’s easy from here.
As for C. Schneider, I wondered if he might be held back and so it came to be. He’s young and inexperienced, so deeper-pocketed buyers wouldn’t have been wanting him for a playoff run but, come summer, teams like Philly might be looking hard at him as a long-term acquisition and will pay accordingly. He’s too valuable an asset to let go for a rental.
The opposite of serious is not funny; the opposite of serious is unserious.
3rd line centre
From what I heard about Demo is that he doesn’t want to play centre. I do like some of the line combos though… but I think I like Welly (last night for sure) better than Hansen.
I think Kesler Sammy and Demo would be a good 2nd line and have Welly centre Raymond and Grabner… the only problem with that would be that then the 3rd line would weigh about 300 lbs combined. But they would have some slick moves for a 3rd line. Maybe put some big boys on D to even it out when they are out there.
I kinda like the idea of putting Kes back at center between Raymond and Grabner cuz their combined speed makes them a threat every time they touch the puck. They were getting to be a lotta fun to watch before Grabner got ambushed by that soccer ball.
And yeah, I’ve heard that Demo doesn’t wanna play center but he does it well when asked, and you can’t always get what you want.
The opposite of serious is not funny; the opposite of serious is unserious.
The Wings would still be first in least PIM. Their lacklustre standing hasn’t made them undisciplined on the ice.

Year in-year out they’re always one of the least penalized teams, especially because they rarely fight.
A true model franchise.

Haha imagine, a DET enforcer.
I know I can’t.

There's two

It wasn’t that long ago.
Please allow me to adjust my pants, so that I may dance the good time dance, and lead the onlookers and innocent bystanders into a trance.
and we’re continuously one of the worst teams for penalties. i remember being 3rd worst last year, behind only philly and anaheim. we’re 5th worst right now, behind anaheim, blues, philly and tampa

Well, should we have injuries, we have some depth in all positions now. Offensive forwards Grabner; potentially CoHo in playoffs after his OHL season ends (longshot). Plugger forwards: Stastny and whoever doesn’t play between RyJo, Ryp, Hordi, Glass, etc. D: Take your pick (Whomever doesn’t play of Alberts, Rome, SOB, and then Lukowich and Baumer). Goal: CoSchneids. If we can get Bieksa and Mitchell back, I think we’ve got the ability to survive the depletion that can occur in tough playoff series.
If there’s one thing Canucks have, it’s depth in all positions. Some would prefer a few great players instead of many good players, but it’s easier said than done and injuries do happen. I have a solid team that can overcome the adversity of injuries and still win and we have some pieces we can swap in and out.
5-0 Vancouver
Luongo gets his regular gear back, and the catching glove bobbles go away.
Demitra (2), Kesler, Samuelsson, Salo.
