"I'm not going to answer any questions on O'Brien today — let's move on."
Alain Vigneault is not discussing why O'Brien missed practice and will not play against the Coyotes on Tues day. As mentioned below, Andrew Alberts will take OB's place. Let the speculations begin!
Update: The final verdict seems to be that OB arrived at the rink 5 minutes before the 11:00 practice. AV had to send a message to O'Brien and the team that complacency will not be tolerated. - Vancouver Sun

Dont worry OB fans, there is nothing crazy or sinister going on with the defenceman. Word is he showed up for an 11 oclock practice at 10:55
So don't get violent and don't get caught with your head down, the night she stole the moon.
the other article already does say he was seen at GM Place today though.

GO CANUCKS GO!
Yeah, doesn’t that mean he showed up to GM place late? And therefore AV got really angry?

I am sure there is a team rule that if you show up late for practice you don’t go on the ice or something. And obviously 10:55 is late if practice starts at 11am. It’s not like basketball where you can show up tie your shoes and be ready to go by 11.

of course we do remember. He was late because he was robbed on his way to GM Place when he took a taxi, according to his story.
I don’t believe O’Brien would be silly enough to make a story like that, but I can’t help but shake my head as I think he has made some good progress this season after M Schneider left. But he’s in my position to show up at a practice late and not suffer any consequence
If it’s a question of arriving only 5 min before practice, why does OB continue doing things that piss off AV? Different is nice, but glaringly so on a number of occasions? Not so nice.
Could be he thought the practice was at noon? Maybe he had some issues at home and couldn’t get away? I mean there are lots of legitimate reasons to be late. As long as it is only once or twice tops in your career then it’s no big deal. Go talk to the coach and then start working your way out of the dog house. Not a big deal.

Good point
I have occasionally wondered about how often hockey players suffer “normal” life/work issues, such as getting stuck in traffic, having a kid suddenly get sick, or whatever else. My only explanation is that:
a) They’re rich enough to have contingencies in place (wives that don’t need to work to make ends meet, so theoretically could take care of the kid; nannies; being able to afford accommodation close to the rink; etc.)
b) They must leave really, really, really early for practice/games. Didn’t Bertuzzi used to live way out in West Van? Imagine if he was late for a game because he got stuck on the Lion’s Gate Bridge!

And Mogilny: wasn’t he across the border in Point Roberts during his Canucks days?
"He'll play, you know he'll play. He'll play on crutches if he has to... and he'll play at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night! This game is over!"
Yes, I think he did live in Point Roberts. Not sure why, but probably for either immigration or tax reasons.
That’s where Nonis lived when he was GM.

Update from Dan Murphy
Via Twitter:
Yes RT @deano42: obviously I’m missing something. Do you mean they’re supposed to be on ice at11 and he walked in the door at 10:55?

FYI, and OT: Icethetics, that kickass jersey site is having a “playoffs” for best NHL team logo. The Canucks are barely losing to the Sharks right now. Check it out and vote!
And to think I was just warming up to "Shame" O'Brien.
