The Canucks Are A Better Team Without Demo
there, i said it. pavol demitra doesn't fit in with the rest of the guys out there, he always seems to be playing a different tune than the rest of his linemates. kesler, raymond and grabner on the other hand have great chemistry together. i thought they looked good at the beginning of the year and they looked very dangerous yesterday. easily the fastest line in the entire nhl, and all three skate hard both directions. grabner looks like he is on the verge of breaking out in the same way that raymond broke out this year. what's it say that i'd rather have grabs out there than demo? well it says i hope they don't resign demitra when his contract comes up, and wouldn't it be nice to have an excuse to keep him out of the lineup for remainder.
if the canucks go into the playoffs with last night's lineup, +samuelsson, -glass, +mitchell, -rome/obrien then i like our chances. sadly i think we're stuck with our defense as it doesn't look good for willie, but this team has the best chance to go the distance since 1994. and the best part is that the future is bright too, with core guys locked up and a pipeline of prospects for maybe the first time ever.
god, it's a good time to be a canucks fan.

With Grabner playing the way he is…I’d rather see him in over Demo for sure. And like you said..Son of Sam is needed.
Grabner has had plenty of chances to score but hasn’t finished on any of them since being called up. In four games he has one assist and is -3.
Not to worry
it will come.
Even with his misses he has more sniper in him than most of the rest of the team.

As Botchford said:
Can’t help but think Kesler has one hand tied behind his back playing with Demitra. Limits his speed game.
Demitra is a good player, there just doesn’t seem to be any chemistry with the guys here.

there was with Sundin, Demo and Kesler last year. But this RPM line is faster and better

That line
…might have worked because it was never going to move as fast.
With MayRay on board, Kes can move as quick as he wants.
Darn, are we going to have a great training camp next year? Take this team, delete Demo and Welly from up front, and add in CoHo and Schroeder. That is going to be a treat to watch.
Knights, Canucks, Dolphins, Jays and Raptors all the way.
I doubt
very much Schroeder will be ready next year.
But Hansen should earn a regular spot.

I would love to see Hansen is a regular.

Schroeder
Why I said “training camp”. :)
I like the thought of a Hansen-CoHo-Sammie line.
Knights, Canucks, Dolphins, Jays and Raptors all the way.
I don't think
that Sammy should be 3rd line.
The guy has 30+ goals, I like Grabner, but just because he’s “looked good” at times with Kes and Ray doesn’t mean he’s going to be as productive, especially right out of the gate.
Everybody knows
That the world is full of stupid people
Well I got the pistols so I'll keep the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
Hansen-Hodgson-Sammuelsonn wouldn’t be a third line. I think they’d be a gread 2B kind of line (or if you buy into 1A/1B with the Kesler/Sedin lines, they’d be a second line…weird). Solid defense from Hansen and Hodgson and good scoring from Sammy and Hodgson.
The only H

Agree with your post Bitter
I like the Grabs – MayRay comparison. Definite similarities there. If his hands can catch up to his feet the way Raymond has done, he will be a gem. Hope it happens sooner than later, cause he could be a great option in the playoffs. He was entertaining as hell last night.
This shold be Demo’s last year here too. He’ll need to take a paycut to stay here and I imagine the Rangers will have no problem finding a way to throw money at him next year to play with Gabby.

I agree with the stance on Demo and Grabs-Mase comparison, but I feel that I gotta stand up for Glass and SOB/Rome here.
Glass is the kind of player they’re gonna need in the playoffs to crash and bang, I’d much rather have him out there than Hordi and maybe even Rypper. SOB has been very serviceable since taking on a top 4 role, I think he can play a solid #5 role in the playoffs. Rome as the 6th man is fine with me. I really think Mitchell is nearly done for the season, he still hasn’t even been able to get on a bike yet let alone play high-level hockey.
The beauty of it all is that they have a wealth of depth should someone go down to injury in the next 2-2.5 months. They may be one of the deepest teams going into the playoffs.

The sacariest part for me is:
1) I don’t see Mitchell back this year. Meaning Rome subs in (I’m ok with this part).
2) Spare parts Salo goes down ( i know…so unlikely), Alberts draws in.
So really, #2 is the part which could cause me to wake up in the middle of the night with cold sweats and a peed bed.
Leave my name alone Botchford...get your own.
Baumer is still up with the club too, I’d rather have him than Alberts right now. I think it’ll depend on the opponent though.
Poutine & Meatballs
Totally agree about the depth.
I like bitter’s post too, but have to side with cyxj on some love for Glass, SOB and Rome.
Rome gets better the more he plays. He is a wonderful spending of 500,000 and a waiver wire pickup. He is not Willie, of course, but has totally been a good move.
SOB …what can you say. Keep playing that simple game, and stop overthinking ( not your strong suit SOB )…he can be a very useful d’man when he does that. I have less worries about him this year in the dance than I would have last year. His game has grown a lot in the past season.
Man, if Glass had better hands, he could really be dangerous. But he is good at bang and crash, and will add to the 4th line instead of the 3rd soon.
I am interested who gets called up when they expand the roster for the playoffs. Guys like Cody when his playoffs are done? Just for the experience? Who else is a Black Ace?
I agree too, that Willie is done. Its too bad. But with a team that can score more, and from more places, that D’ deficiency does not look so bad.

I say keep demo at a cheaper rate and bring in some cheap Slovak’s to round out his line (3rd), even if they’re shithouse i reckon he’ll elevate his game to play on a line with them.
Demo should be playing on the third line this year already. I disagree with AV putting him on line 2. I’d match him with Welly and then he’d be fresh for the PP where his passing is a big asset.
Sorry, but even Demo isn’t let go this summer I’m gonna riot.

I can’t see him getting another contract either. Even at a vastly reduced rate he isn’t very likely to play half the season. We have a few players in the minors that should fill the ranks (I hope!). All eyes are on HodGson, Grabner and Schroeder but what about Shirokov?
With Demo being a former client and professing his love for Vancouver before he signed here I’d say anything is possible.
Are there any people on here that have watched Moose games this year? I’ve seen a couple and I’m not so impressed with Shirokov. Can anyone give a better insight on him?
by Sean Zandberg on Mar 25, 2010 7:24 PM PDT up reply actions
This highlights one of the problems with the ‘nuckosphere, we really don’t have anybody covering prospects very well, so it’s damn hard to get a good read on how good the guys on the Moose are, or even how well our picks are doing.
Move the Moose to Victoria and that problem goes away!
The opposite of serious is not funny; the opposite of serious is unserious.
Bah. Swap the Moose and the Heat. ’Nuck farmhands in Abby, and baby Flames out of BC.

i was thinking that myself this morning.

Methinks Demo will go to the Rangers.
Makes sense, he plays well with Gabby, Rangers love signing old guys to ballin’ contracts.
CBJ beat the Hawsk 8-3 tonight (I couldnt believe it when I saw the final score), and there is only one comment on the Game Thread. How is this possible?

And he's not going anywhere.
Unless T.O. trades their draft picks for him.
