If the league’s got any desire of actually fixing these type of mistakes by referees and show them when they’ve blatantly erred, I’d hope referee Stephane Auger has an email waiting for him Saturday morning from Director of Officiating Terry Gregson with a video clip.

After the Burrows incident I was surprised to see the extent of Auger’s incompetence. This is an issue that affects the integrity of the game yet the NHL will no doubt continue to let him ref. Not that I have any confidence in Gary’s NHL dealing with any problem they ever encounter in a timely or effective manner.
Well… I’m under the impression that the NHL referees have a pretty strong union, so the NHL would have to deal with a big hassle if they tried to seriously make an example out of this guy. And quite frankly, there’s really no pressure on the league to do so, so they see no need to start a fight. The proof will be in the pudding in terms of whether or not Auger gets assigned to any games after the first round of the playoffs.

No way with Auger ref any playoff games.
The officials are renegotiating their deal this summer.
Look for the NHL to make it part of what they want…the ability to fire them easier, or at least punish stupidity.
No matter how strong the union.
