Canucks Beat Avalanche 6-4

I've seen a lot from Canucks teams over the years but very rarely have I seen a Canucks team like this, who falls down 1, 2 or 3 goals before making a comeback to win games. This Canucks team from Roberto Luongo-out seems disturbingly comfortable to do so on the road trip from hell. Again, when down 3-0 and 4-1 against the furious Avalanche team Vancouver, fueled by Mikael Samuelsson's hat trick and Alexandre Burrow's game winner did it again....which was to erase a 3-goal deficit to win.....and win the game in regulation.

You wait for it to blow up in their faces. You wait for a blow-out to happen to bring them back down to earth but it isn't happening.

-Samuelsson had 3 goals and 1 assist

- Henrick Sedin had 3 assists

-Daniel Sedin had 1 goal and 2 assists

-Ryan Kesler and Christian Ehrhoff each had 2 assists

It was enough to silent the already-quiet dismal Colorado crowd. The Duchene, Hejduk and Stewart line combined for 3 goals, 1 assist and 10 shots..so what?? They finished a +3 and nothing to show for it, except that the Canucks now hold a 4 point lead for the NW Division title.

And please, please please leave Hansen on the roster. How much more does he have to prove?

That had to be the most entertaining Canucks game of the year. This team cannot be counted out of it. I honestly thought the turnover by Raymond that led to the fourth goal was going to be the turning point of the game but they did not give up.

Credit to the Sedins who have been playing under the radar since that game against Toronto, they looked dangerous on every shift…my only concern is that they both need to shoot more.

If Luongo can find some consistency in net this team may yet be a force to reckon with come April.

Sean, you mentioned the dismal crowd but seriously if only 12,861fans show up for a battle for 1st place at this time of year than they deserve to lose.

Hansen is the shit!

by Twincest on Mar 10, 2010 12:58 AM PST reply actions

Sedins looked dangerous in the second and third periods. In the first, I think the team as a whole played awful other than maybe Kesler.

Interesting quote from Lu last night,

“The horn at the end of the first was a good turning point for me. Clarkie [Goalie Coach Ian Clark] came over to me after the first and we had a chat. He was wiping my tears. It was either sit the rest of the game and play tommorow or battle through it. I think we made the right decision. That was probably the worst I’ve ever played in my career in the first period.”

Anyone else go over to mile high hockey and read the post game comments? Wow…i don’t think anyone should ever accuse Vancouver of blaming the refs for losses after seeing some of the weak excuses over there. There isn’t a person in the world who would complain about Hansen’s goal (other than obviously the opposing teams coach cuz thats his job), yet these guys find a way to make it goaltender interference. Craziness. And they lost the game because of bad penalties. 4 penalties they took all game, and yet somehow all those soft calls the refs made cost them the game?

Lu handed the Avs the game on a silver platter in the first period.

And they’re complaining?

I think Hansen got the game winner, didn’t he? If not, I called Burrows for a game winner so give me a point! lol

by marcness52 on Mar 10, 2010 1:55 AM PST reply actions

Me too!

But it was Hansen. I don’t get that either GAHHHHH. The three things are ; you can’t go into thec crease if the puck aint there in that fashion, you can’t bump the goalie, and you can’t impede.

He did none. It just bounced off his chest and then off of Anderson, and back out. He didn’t touch the glove, as he was already by, but it looked on the ol’ HD box that it hit his hip after being touched by Andy’s glove. I was reading one guy there that said that he sent Anderson spinning (flying(?) ) on his way through, but it just looked like another example of how he was scrambling…the ref pointed pretty emphatically…he didn’t hesitate.

From an Av fan’s viewpoint, I can see being pissed, but geez, you’re goalie was giving up bad rebounds all night, and the defense could not handle the Wonder Twins all the last half of the game.

Who had 9-5 in the 14 gm RTFH pool? Heck, even 8-6 is pretty awesome.

I called 9-5. WAY back in December. I looked at the schedule and said there was no reason the Canucks shouldn’t be able to go 9-5.

Hansen did make contact with Anderson’s glove but I think that was Anderson actually bringing his glove into Hansen. Hansen didn’t impede Anderson nor did he direct the puck in with a kicking motion or with his hands. It’s a good goal.

You can almost see the confidence just oozing out of these guys too. I love how they all had the Capt.’s back after a poor start.

His finish was good enough for me. With the game on the line, he made like…four amazing saves.

The last time we had this kind of offense was the WCE, circa 2003-ish…wasn’t it?

And this team seems more complete than that one.

Nah, now that I’m updated with all the Canucks news I can go back to sleep with peace of mind.

I dreamt my family made the newspaper after being interviewed at a Canucks game, but they put a photo in of the wrong siblings taken at an earlier game. And for some reason I was in a Bure jersey.

It was worth the wait...

This game was on live this morning for me and I was able to record it, hide from the results and watch it when I got home. Other than the fact that the game started when it was already 2-0 ’Lanche and the Nucks were playing, well, fairly scrambly (is that a word?), I hung in with the game knowing that they do come back.

I was thinking back about 6 or 7 years ago when I’d watch a game on the ol’ sat dish at home and when it was 4-1 in the 2nd, I’d just walk away. No way they could come back in the clutch and grab world.

This game was a beauty…worthy of a save for eternity, if the Nucks do something special this year.

by GZ Expat on Mar 10, 2010 5:06 AM PST reply actions

I love reading comments from other fans like “someone needs to crush the Sedins, they gave them way too much time.” Just because they are getting in on assists on Sammy’s trick doesn’t mean they weren’t covered in burgundy uniforms all night. Not sure what game they were watching but I saw plenty of Sedins falling (Daniel specifically) and being double teamed. I believe this is what makes them $6.5 million dollar players.

Just accept when your team chokes and move on. We sure do.

I just did, and I love some of those, Canuck haters. The more they are, the better the Canucks are doing (or the other way around). I really hope that by the end of the playoffs, everybody will hate the Canucks, except their own fans.

Whilst ignoring the third period last night (the real reason the lads won, IMO) I checked into Twitter and found at least 2 or 3 tweets from Adrian Dater stating that it was only a matter of time before the Avs would blow the lead. Damn if he wasn’t right. And a hell of a thing to say if you’re a team’s beat writer. I wouldn’t let the guy into the dressing room after that.

Please allow me to adjust my pants, so that I may dance the good time dance, and lead the onlookers and innocent bystanders into a trance.

Message to A. Vigneault:

Please keep Hansen in the line-up already, but keep threatening him that you will send him down to the minors soon. This will motivate him to the extent that he will play every game as if it was his last one, and the Canucks will keep winning.

BTW

Where do I nominate Hansen for possibly the worst goal celebration ever?

It looked like that spastic ADD kid from “Smoking Aces” got tasered.

seconded.

But he showed more life than Welly, who is the Gold Standard for goal celebration-non celebrations…

Jank needs to know his spot is not secure, or he takes stupid penalties.

The difference is, that this time, he just sat on the bench for a while.

Same as Mase. I am OK with that for dumbness. Making no big deal of it ( though the rapacious Vancity media usually does a good job of that! )…but letting the players know that if you fuck up badly there are consequences.

Even Luongo knows that he has to play to stay.

His leash is just longer, as it should be.

Have you heard the press conference with AV probably a month ago where someone described Wellwood as playing as a “man possessed”? So funny. AV couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of it.

by marcness52 on Mar 10, 2010 5:44 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah…I remember…I smiled along with him.

I love the CDC for those RAW footage of interviews and such…and Ms’ Reid is a hotty…pretty, AND can introduce you to all the boys when you go out to dinner.

AV seems to have a pretty good read on his team, and when to change it up. We can all coach from the sidelines…but he seems pretty good so far…

Doesn’t hurt when you have the #2/3 offense in the league either.
